Silent Type beating a dead horse - ?

Posted: Feb 21, 2014

I'm probably beating a dead horse here, but wondering it anyone has any fresh insight or knowledge (without bashing).  It just seems so silly, we're all adults here, why can't she just come out and say what's going on so we can make an informed decision about what to do?

Because they don't do that - see msg

[ In Reply To ..]
I'm not bashing anyone, but I got the heck out of the MT industry. Period ended.

If you choose to stay in this horrible business, I would not keep hanging onto this hope you have that honesty is going to prevail and all will be well. Even if someone was actually honest with you, would it make a difference? It's a bad field to be in, it's all going down the tubes, and that is the reality.

adults - seriously

[ In Reply To ..]
If you're an adult, why do you need to hear from her lips the fact that she cannot give you enough work to sustain yourself? Why do you stay if you can't? (I'm going on past posts from people as you did not specifically say you are not getting enough work.)

When I was there, I didn't need to hear M say - the ship is listing - before I realized I needed to jump ship and save myself. I'm so glad I did. I was able to find a company that doesn't talk down to me, answers my questions honestly, doesn't forge my timesheet, and keeps me busy.

What is it you specifically need to hear her say before you make your own adult decision on what to do with your life?

answer to what is it you specifically need to hear her say - SM

What I would like to hear is:
"The reason why work is so low is...."
or
"Work flow will improve because...."
or
"I don't know if work flow will improve..."
or
"I doubt that work flow will improve because..."

Answer to "why do you stay?":
Some of us have a vested interest in ST, emotionally or otherwise, as well as loyalty and respect for the company and the owner, and would prefer to stay but still have concerns about the future. We all know about your bitterness, have heard it a gazillion times, and it is not helpful.

Honest Answers - Vs Dishonest Answers

[ In Reply To ..]
Honest Answers: 1) Work flow is low because we ship to India. 2) Work flow will improve because Corporate told me to say that so you don't quit. 3) I don't know when work flow will improve because I don't really know, either. 4) I doubt work flow will improve, but I'm not permitted to tell you that.

Dishonest Answers: 1) Work is low because of Frog Day, Whale Day, dictator vacations. 2) Work flow will improve because once Frog Day and Whale Day are over, the doctors will be back at it and back from their vacations. 3) I don't know when work flow will improve, but it will! 4) I doubt work flow will improve in the next 1/2 hour, but stick around and keep checking back, and it will!

There you have it.

I think we need to make our own informed decisions at this point - anon

Let's face it - the work is obviously not going to pick up after how many months/years? Your key word is dead, meaning it's pretty much over. I do believe it's time to move on up and out of MT completely, which I am working on.

Another Silent Type question - Rocky Raccoon

I have been pondering for several weeks why the owner of ST requires people to train on-site. That seems so eighties. It occurs to me--would the owner (not sure if it is a he or she) want to actually SEE the potential MT candidates for some reason? Is she looking for something visual? Not sure about this, but trying to answer why people have to go there. (I work for one of the big companies and I got trained very easily remotely.) I wonder what this coming there is really all about? Does anyone who works there know?

I have no idea - ex-STMT

[ In Reply To ..]
The training is no harder than any other place where you can train from home. In fact, their platform is really quite simple. She may want to be able to see the person for whatever reason. My theory is that it is some sort of control issue that she has and/or she is stuck in the past. She will stick with old rules (BOS) instead of adopting the newer ones.

One thing that they do there is the computer you train on is the actual one they send you home with, so it may have something to do with that.

I personally think it's a waste of money for her, because after you're there 6 months she reimburses you $500 for your trip. The problem is, that $500 figure hasn't changed in years (like I said earlier, she's stuck in the past). When I went a couple of years ago, it cost me $900. Then again, if you don't make it 6 months, she doesn't reimburse you at all.

Perhaps someone could actually ask her, but I doubt you'd get a straight answer.

I would never travel - To acquire MT work

[ In Reply To ..]
That is so crazy. Even if I was fully re-imbursed, I wouldn't go through all that trouble. It's too easy to be trained from home for some place else.

It's just this lady's "rule" and apparently she doesn't bend.
Re: I would never travel - Nick
[ In Reply To ..]
Neither would I. It makes me wonder if she drives a horse and buggy or if she has a car like the rest of us?

onsite training - waste of time

[ In Reply To ..]
The on-site training was a huge waste of time. First, you fork out all this money and time to travel there and they don't even offer to buy you lunch or even GUIDE you to lunch. There's only one hotel and it's not cheap. The neighborhood is slightly shady.

I trained with two other people and we spent a great deal of time sitting and chatting with each other (we became friends and are still in touch after several years). Training was disorganized.

You're put in this huge building that had a handful of people in it. I'm told no one even works in the building anymore, so not sure how that works.

It was a really big waste of time and energy (and money because you only get paid $500, so if it costs you more to get there, that's on you.)

Google XP and HIPAA, and you will find numerous articles indicating that ALL XP machines for transcription will violate HIPAA as Microsoft will no longer support/debug. And since our systems are all XP and using an ancient, Word 95?? program, there are no funds or time to upgrade and remain compliant by April 2014. My guess is she is in negotiations for sale, or alternatively, she cannot keep contracts due to inability to remain HIPAA compliant and accounts are changing MTSO. Since she's not said a thing about upgrading computers. My guess, it all ends in APRIL for all of us. It remains possible we will be offered positions with the new MTSO as they want familiarity, but with the low work coming in, that usually means it is already being siphoned for training MTs currently with the "other" MTSO. I have tried to call numerous times, to speak with M via phone since she don't respond to E-mails. She's always in "meetings." 2 plus 2, equals...

But - How do you explain

[ In Reply To ..]
The ad on Job Seeker's Board only 3 weeks ago?

Good question - Noanswer

[ In Reply To ..]
I also wonder why she could not offer those positions to some of us with low work! It makes no sense to hire from out with many capable MTs in her employ now capable of doing the work. She don't do the "backup" accounts like other MTSOs do either. I've never seen an MT company run the way she does it.

Do you think she even knows? - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
You would think by now she would be aware that XP will no longer be HIPAA compliant. We sure do and we're just "lowly MTs." Yes, 2 + 2 seems to equal disaster at this point. I also agree that emailing and/or calling M is futile. Either way 4/2014 is fast approaching.

Not all of is are using Word anymore at ST - Anon

I have actually been working on a new system for a while and it is my understanding every account will eventually be on this new system. I was told this by M.

The problem with making money with ASR is, I swear my fingers are moving just as much, but all over the board, not how we all learned to go fast, fingers on the home keys and move from there.  My hands are trying to fly all over....arrow keys, end, ctrl/shift/arrow to highlight, over to delete, try to find my way back, only to move off home keys to arrow some more.  If I could connect a pedometer on my fingers, I know it would show they are moving just as much without the same producti ...

Down below when I was trying to figure out if the reason I got laid off was because I was PT (CCM told me all PT were being laid off) or that I was in California (I thought maybe this was the case).....I realize that neither of these are true.
