Close your eyes and imagine what would happen if all American MTs went on strike and refused to do VR anymore, and the hospitals got the reports in their unedited glory.

I'd say there'd be a panic in the hospital like this country hasn't seen since the stock market crashed in 1929. Smile

the hospitals dont care about quality, as referenced by their - request for OS work for pennies

Nobody cares. Going on strike will not fix that.

There would be no panic; they'd send the work to India or the providers would do their own editing. Most hospitals have a QA staff to correct the errors if the reports were in a mess. You should have been told long ago that no one is indispensable.

I am appalled that you think we are dispensable. India doesn't have a snowball's chance in **** to ever get to our level of expertice and know-how, and yes, I do think the hospitals would panic, and rightly so. Maybe if more MTs band together and put their foot down about the horrible pay, horrible hours, no work, then maybe, just maybe, the MTSOs will pay attention. And maybe not. But I would rather go down in flames than roll over and die a slow death in this profession!

If you are not a union member, you can't go on strike, the union has to call a strike. Not showing up for work or walking off the job is grounds for termination. There are too many unemployed people now, not to mention the threat from off shore labor to consider a "strike." If you can find a money tree somewhere that will pay the bills while I am "striking," I'll join in. Wake up and smell the coffee. As others have said, no one cares. Please don't ask others to put their jobs in jeopardy because you think it's the right thing to do.

if this would have been done years ago, and MTs could have stuck together, we would have been SO strong and powerful; however, there were those who scared everyone like this. that time is gone now and it is too late.

I bet no one would even notice - no one reads them anyway nm

numbers as VR editors than we ever did as MT's, because if they had half a snowball's chance of their Indians being able to do it, they'd have had them editing VR (and themselves) ages age, and we'd all be long gone.

With how little we all make doing this work, I'm mystified as to why more of us don't realize this.

Why doesn't their speech recognition work?

Well, let's see, I just had a 22-1/2 minute report where every other word is incorrect = a ton of untyping and retyping. The labs were dictated in sloppy acronymn code so I have no clue what that was about. I had to take out about at least 20 instances where he said, "Dr. Jack Rabbit, MD." because you can only use MD or doctor but not both. I had to completely redo every date he dictated as "two twelve twenty thirteen," that speech recognition typed as "to 12/20/2013, and since it was the beginning of all those lovely sentences, I had to retype that in as February 12, 2013. Then, at the end of this beasty report to add insult to my injury he said, "Send copy to all consults above."

After I researched those 11+ freaky doctor names I had trouble spelling within the report, I had to go back and add 11 courtesy copies for FREE and re-read the report to find them all to do it.

After an hour of that I racked up $4 in peanuts . . . so yeah, why doesn't THAT work? Hmmm, I wonder.

I'd spit on that dictator if he was this room with me, and then when if he started yelling about it, I'd use my displaced aggression and just punch him unconscious!!!

ya know, when MT was in-house, I remember - bansheeMT

the director of Med Rec and MT supervisor working with the doctors on their dictation (not that it worked 100% of the time), but most all of the doctors were appreciative of the job we did 'cleaning' them up, and would give us LOTS of gifts for Christmas, etc., like microwaves, flowers, candy, home-made cookies from their wives, etc etc. They knew they were bad, but we were real people back then because they had to come into the office to sign charts so they saw us and talked to us. I imagine most now don't even know (or have time to consider) that there are real people on the other end of the phone or whatever they use to dictate nowadays. No one tells them so why would they care.

There were always the few who still didn't care but mostly we used to be appreciated...because we were real live people.

This seems a nasty side effect of working on the internet: People I think have become completely desensitized and even aggressive.

The depersonalization of one-to-one is what allows me to engage in fits of rage where I just curse these folks like they were here. It's a mental safety valve that allows all the built up tension to dissipate when Ijust cannot stand it another minute.

Depersonalization and not having to look at MTs when they hand out paychecks is how they justify paying us so pathetically, because if our boss had to look us in the eye their shame would show and they would be too embarrassed to offer paychecks as they do.

If I Can't Beat Them, Is It Possible To Join Them?

I was just recently hired in by a company who told me that I could not have any other VR software on my computer.  Why not?  Well suffice it to say,  I quit because of other things going on,but I started thinking;what if I did have my own VR software and why not allow it while working for this company.  My question is if I bought my own software for VR and train it while the dictators are dictating, can I increase my speed by just talking into my own software while the other ...

I am a concerned IC.  I would like to keep my job(s) as an IC and actually still have MTSOs be around to provide jobs.  With all of this garbage constantly going on and hurting the businesses,  I think that there needs to be some recourse for the MTSOs.  All of you so-called IC MTs proclaiming to do other's favors, no thanks.  You are not doing any of us "professional" ICs a favor - you are hurting ALL of our businesses, driving all of our work right out of the ...

I will also be submitting my own "EMPLOYER HANDBOOK" to potential employers, addressing wage transparency, full explanation of pay rates, and precise factors by which "hourly" or "minimum" wage amounts are arrived at. Major DUH Moment! "Proceed"?
Jan 11, 2012

Ok, it seems that this word has NEVER come up for me in the past.  I have a new MD that states "we proceeded with the injection" in almost all his notes, and yet my spellcheck doesn't recognize "proceeded" or "proceed", "procede" or any form of that word. It keeps wanting to change it to "precede" or "preceded." What's even wierder is that I can't seem to find "proceeded" in ANY dictionary! Webster's has "proceed" but doesn't list a past tense for this word like it ...
