Does anyone have any experience acquiring accounts in clinics or small, rural hospitals? Do you have to contact the purchasing department, the transcription department, or should you be registered with a credential management company? Where/how do you find information on facilities whose current MT contracts are up and the work is opening for bidding? Anyone have a clue??

Are you wanting to be an small MTSO or a one-man show? If you're wanting to be a small MTSO and/or a one-man show doing all the work, you won't outbid an MTSO.

If you are brand new to MT, I would say that was a mistake to go into the field before knowing what you were getting into.

I've been doing MT since 1995. Had a few of my own accounts back in the day, but now very hard to get. Smaller offices using EMR and larger facilities using large companies.

Why would you want to get some accounts only to lose them? MT in clinics is pretty much dead. It's still alive in hospitals via MTSOs, but it's the pits.

I wish I had some hope for your dream, but I don't. It used to be sooooo goood! Sad, sad, sad.

I have acquired two new accounts in the last 18 months. I found both of them by accident. The one was a woman who was the office manager for a surgery center who happened to be the mom of one of the girls my daughter plays soccer with. She asked if I was interested in picking up work for one of their docs who was in only two to three days a week. I jumped on it as my hubby had just been fired from his job. It started off with the one doctor just a couple of days a week. This blossomed into 13 doctors now for the surgery center. I also increased my line rate by 50% in doing so. They have been MORE than happy. From that job I was referred to an office of another doctor. They wanted to know what my TAT was and I replied 24-48 hours (he does all the dictating from the previous week on Monday). They were, at that time, dealing with tapes and not getting the dictation back for almost two WEEKS. Again, they have been thrilled with the service that I have been providing. :) I guess just get your name out there. Talk to some people that work for surgery centers, hospitals, clinics, etc. It's still out there as some of the docs I transcribe for now are paying the penalty instead of complying with EMR. :O

I am sick to death of being bounced all over the place! I would love to force the QA lead and CCM to swich every 10 minutes as well... I'm going to be sending out brochures to doctors' offices in my area. I'm wondering which specialties would be the best ones to target - i.e., more likely to outsource their transcription to an individual transcriptionist, least likely to have EMR or EPIC. The worst thing to me is when you get a few jobs in a row and try to build up some momentum, then OOW again!
