A community of 30,000 US Transcriptionist serving Medical Transcription Industry
A couple of years ago I obtained an LLC, took a webinar on how to run a transcription business as far as getting ideas on file transfer services, fees, etc. However, because I had to work full-time I never found time to pursue beyond that, or I guess I just chickened out basically. I guess I am thinking I would just start calling locally. I already checked with a college friend, who is a general practitioner. Of course, they are entering data themselves and not using transcriptionists any longer due to the requirement of going to EHR. I told him that some offices are utilizing both and making the transcribed reports part of the EHR. I imagine that general practice offices have an easier time with just the data entry in the office as opposed to specialty offices. Our local hospitals are big and already have in-house transcriptionists, who apparently never leave their jobs unless they die. I am looking for advice. I am currently working full-time in the human services field (have continued transcription on the side), so going into offices is very difficult, but calling them could be a possibility. I am about to be laid off from my 41K/year job, and I am concerned going back to an MTSO I cannot make that much since so much is VR (which I can do, just not at $20/hour), which is why I am looking at starting my own business once again. I have a daughter with a disability and income is of utmost importance, so please consider giving me some advice. I am applying for MTSOs right now, but have a sick feeling about that. You can send me a private message.
