annual raises or merit raises? - hang10

Posted: Dec 03, 2014

Does any MTSO do this?  I mean, either an annual cost of living raise or a merit raise based on a regular annual review.  Or both.

If none of the above, are you able to just ask your boss for a raise when you feel it's appropriate?  Does it work?

raises - what planet

what planet are you from? Obviously you are new to this "profession"

Does any MTSO do this? NO

Cost of living raise? The last time I got one of those was about 15 years ago when I worked in an office and was a supervisor.

Annual review? Who get those anymore?

Both? Are you kidding?

Just ask? NO

Does it work? NO

If you want more money, you need to do more work and get more lines. But in this "profession" that is not possible anymore.

I am just waiting for my job that starts January 1 to take over so I can get the out of here.

You asked, I answered honestly.

I would never discourage someone from asking for a raise. I did, and got them in teensy increments, until I was told I was at the max they could do. Now if I want more, I push harder and/or work OT whenever offered.

Good luck and definitely go for it!

Yes, that's about true. The times of raises are gone. I asked when I started working for a very small transcription business about 9 years ago and got one but after they merged with a big company, that was the end of that. No, anymore you're lucky if you don't get a pay cut and your work goes away or goes VR for 3-4 cpl. It's really a joke to even ask. You could try, you never know I guess, but it sure would be the exception to the rule anymore.

I know they don't do anything for us WHATSOEVER at my current MTSO. At my prior MTSO, you could still at least personally request a raise, and you might get a tiny one if you were lucky. I just was curious whether any other smaller MTSOs in the country are still doing pay increases, by any means, or if it's now completely a thing of the past.

They Used To - see msg

Back in the day, late 90's/early 00's, they gave raises. My first year, I didn't have to ask, they just raised me in small increments my first year since I was making production and had high quality work.

After that, I had to needle them for it, but it got to a point where they stopped giving raises, period, and I stopped needling them because at the time,I was actually making pretty good money--42K in a 40-hour work week.

Then they started cutting, cutting, cutting our rates, and I finally quit after 5 years of total nonsense.

I would explore this field more before making your decision to go into it at all.

The only raise these days is to type faster and work longer. - if there is work.

The last time I saw a raise was in 2005. Pay - has continually declined ever since.

I might have gotten a raise in 2007, but that was because I was working for a couple and not an organization. That all changed after they merged with big MD-IT and I never saw any raises after that, just cuts. Just tells us all something girls, this is a sad situation to be in anymore.

Raises????
Jun 28, 2013

I have been working for a compnay since 12/2007.  In that period of time I have worked multiple accounts, learned multiple new software systems and have always gone above and beyond - working over/extra to ensure we stay in our TAT.  In the 5-1/2 years I have been working for them, I have not had a single line rate increase.  Is this the normal?  ...

QC Raises?
Jul 02, 2013

Anybody who is a QC ever ask for a raise? I got promoted to a QC from an MLS within Nuance. They estimated my rate by averaging my lines per hour, then adding $2 to it as my rate for being a QC. I've been at that rate only 7 months, but see lots of posts here about people being offered jobs in QC at $13 an hour and that is more than I make. Should I ask about a raise? Has anybody ever had luck asking for one? ...

Pay Raises
Mar 25, 2015

I have a question for all you MTs out there.  I have been with the same company for 8 years now and am still making the same cpl as I was when I was hired.  Is this the norm?  I would think a raise should be in order at some point.  I am very reliable, always make production or over production, very accurate.  Just kinda feeling unloved!  LOL! ...

Independent Contracting And Raises
Oct 26, 2009

I am finally leaving the broken world of transcription vending to become an independent contractor once again.  I am so very fortunate enough to have benefits through my husband's employer, so it's the pay I am really missing.  Is it unreasonable to put a raise in the contract?  The hospital basically told me they are not contracting for as much $ as they used to (yet another slap in the face of my career), and kind of hinted that raises are a joke.  When I follow ...

It was just about as silly and borderline slanderous as your post! Monitoring keystrokes goes back to the inception of computers being used in transcription. THESE REPORTS WERE DESIGNED TO HELP...END STORY Look, companies hire and they lay off, its never pretty. I am sure that the layoff was unavoidable as MTSO's are not into ...

Nuance Does Not Give Raises.
Oct 01, 2014

Maybe you are new and think they will.  Maybe you are old and think they will.  They won't.  Maybe they don't use this tactic anymore, but when I was there it was "Give Yourself A Raise." That meant produce more.  They don't give raises.  Don't waste your time E-mailing anybody.  Get mad.  Sure.  Even quit, find yourself a better career.  But don't hold your breath.  There will be no raises.  They don't need you ...

I noticed in the annual report they have 100 sales reps.  That is a waste of money for them on the payroll.  It seems they are supposed to generate more work.  That's a lot of people not doing their job, or when they do get new accounts I guess they go directly overseas. ...

Synernet Annual Bonus
Mar 13, 2014

With all the changes coming down the pike, I'm just wondering if the annual bonus has become extinct along with things like the 401K automatic 3% contribution.  I'm thinking it was about the first of March when they announced the annual bonus and this year not a peep.   If it was coming this year you would think they would announce it sooner than later; that would be a blip of positivity in the midst of all the current turmoil.  Maybe they figure a lot of people are ...

Interesting Things In The Annual Report To Shareholders.....
Dec 07, 2009

What I found of particular interest was on the first page (letter to shareholders) where it says that a shortage of domestic MTs is one of the reasons they need to offshore.  ???? To me this doesn't make sense if so many of their employees are saying they consistently have no work.  If there were such a shortage, no one would be complaining of this.    If you are curious as to the salaries and bonuses of the big whigs of this company, it's listed in this pamphlet. ...
