Companies and raises? - hoping
Posted: Feb 18, 2010
After being at a company 2 1/2 years, does anyone thing it is acceptable to email and ask the company for a raise?
Raises?! - SICKOFMT

Good luck with that! Your company will probably tell you you're lucky to have a job. Our company has froze wages for the past 3 years, cut benefits drastically and more. Let me know if you get a raise - I might apply there.

Any more I guess we are lucky to still have work!!
I think it is totally normal and acceptable to ask for a raise. - No raise if you do not ask

That being said, I have not had a raise since 1998. I guess the good news is that the raise I got back then is at the higher end of what is out there. A plus but also not easy to make the same pay for this long when everything else there except our pay goes up.
Anyway, don't want to discourage you though. Depending where your cpl is, you should ask, you could get it.
Just my opinion.
I hope you aren't disappointed and wish you luck!

The last time I had a raise was when I was working in-house for a hospital. That was 1996!
Raises. I am an MT for 25 years and had 3 raises. - My whole life. Good Luck. No message below
Does any MTSO do this? I mean, either an annual cost of living raise or a merit raise based on a regular annual review. Or both.
If none of the above, are you able to just ask your boss for a raise when you feel it's appropriate? Does it work? ...
I have been working for a compnay since 12/2007. In that period of time I have worked multiple accounts, learned multiple new software systems and have always gone above and beyond - working over/extra to ensure we stay in our TAT. In the 5-1/2 years I have been working for them, I have not had a single line rate increase. Is this the normal? ...
Anybody who is a QC ever ask for a raise? I got promoted to a QC from an MLS within Nuance. They estimated my rate by averaging my lines per hour, then adding $2 to it as my rate for being a QC. I've been at that rate only 7 months, but see lots of posts here about people being offered jobs in QC at $13 an hour and that is more than I make. Should I ask about a raise? Has anybody ever had luck asking for one? ...
I have a question for all you MTs out there. I have been with the same company for 8 years now and am still making the same cpl as I was when I was hired. Is this the norm? I would think a raise should be in order at some point. I am very reliable, always make production or over production, very accurate. Just kinda feeling unloved! LOL! ...

I am finally leaving the broken world of transcription vending to become an independent contractor once again. I am so very fortunate enough to have benefits through my husband's employer, so it's the pay I am really missing. Is it unreasonable to put a raise in the contract? The hospital basically told me they are not contracting for as much $ as they used to (yet another slap in the face of my career), and kind of hinted that raises are a joke.
When I follow ...
See (lol), anyone can come up with a Shock and Awe type of title/campaign to get peoples attention to read their post. I mean really, Spyware?!?? Give me a break Pete. It was just about as silly and borderline slanderous as your post! Monitoring keystrokes goes back to the inception of computers being used in transcription. THESE REPORTS WERE DESIGNED TO HELP...END STORY
Look, companies hire and they lay off, its never pretty. I am sure that the layoff was unavoidable as MTSO's are not into ...
Maybe you are new and think they will. Maybe you are old and think they will. They won't. Maybe they don't use this tactic anymore, but when I was there it was "Give Yourself A Raise." That meant produce more. They don't give raises. Don't waste your time E-mailing anybody. Get mad. Sure. Even quit, find yourself a better career. But don't hold your breath. There will be no raises. They don't need you ...
that maybe 2012 will be the year that the elephant in the room, OFFSHORING AMERICAN JOBS, and the perks which companies get for doing so, will finally get a spotlight thrown upon it:

I see many warnings about bogus companies but I need help to steer me to a good company or at least a company that is fair, hiring and gives a fair entrance test. any ideas? ...
Can anyone answer me why is it that these MT companies hire you and they all promise you the sun, moon and stars. Oh we have TONS of work. We guarantee you at least 11 accounts and 2,500 lines a day. Then you are sitting there 6 months later, waiting for jobs? I have experienced this many times. Can it be that its just bad management and they overhire? Does anyone know of a company that really does have TONS of work? I know this is the slow time of year, but many times its happened at othe ...
pay us hourly anymore anyway make us punch an electronic time clock? What's wrong with sending simple timesheets like we did for years? It has no effect on our pay whatsoever since we aren't hourly and is only to cover their butts regarding overtime, so why do they go through all the nightmare of eTime?! ...
The company I work for has gone VR (on most jobs). I cannot make any money doing this. My pay has been cut approximately $150 to $200 every two weeks. They have already taken away the incentives, and now if you screw up a couple of times on demographics, you do not get paid for the job, and the third or fourth time you are pulled from the account. I am just so frustrated. This VR is killing me. It takes more time to make corrections. It is frustrati ...
Can someone please point me to reputable links or companies who hire new (recently graduated/just out of school) transcriptionists? I don't want to apply to companies that aren't good to work for! Who are ones that you know of who hire right out of school and are good to work for? I need something!! I can't take it? I feel like I have applied to every company that I have found on the Internet with no response! Sorry if I'm venting, but it's just g ...
So, I see it all of the time, people on here complaining about no work, yet the company they are complaining about is HIRING. My job recently did this as well. I am day after day running out of work, but yet I see an ad that they are hiring! I e-mailed the owner and asked about it and she didn't reply. I UNDERSTAND that they are hiring for a different account, BUT, since it's all transcribing, why not just move some people around and give those extra accounts to ...
I got an email yesterday telling me that I didn't meet the quota of 10,000 lines for the last pay period... well, duh... There is not enough work. Today I get an email asking how many times I checked on a new account yesterday because they had issues and actually never went live at all. I responded to the email and my supervisor emails me back asking me if I'm hourly or on production. huh??????
No work this morning either... just sit ...
This is ridiculous! I just was rehired again after being away for 2 years and I'm thinking I made a mistake! I want to know if there are any other companies out there that let you JUST TYPE! Would love to hear from someone who has left and is working for a different company as I think I have one foot out the door! ...
