QC raises? - December

Posted: Jul 02, 2013

Anybody who is a QC ever ask for a raise? I got promoted to a QC from an MLS within Nuance. They estimated my rate by averaging my lines per hour, then adding $2 to it as my rate for being a QC. I've been at that rate only 7 months, but see lots of posts here about people being offered jobs in QC at $13 an hour and that is more than I make. Should I ask about a raise? Has anybody ever had luck asking for one?

most make $16 - underpaid too

Good luck

Disagree, QC at Nuance are worth about $1.50 an hour - anon

I have been around for a long time and even worked QA many years myself. The QC/QA at Nuance are the bottom of the barrel skill wise.

Bottom? $1.50? - December

Rude. Assuming. You don't know and have not come in contact with EVERY QC at Nuance and shouldn't assume we are the bottom and don't deserve a decent wage to support our families.

Probably not and hourly rates probably going down - with new incentive QC program.

I see the new QC positions advertise an incentive bonus program and future night differential. It sounds like just a fancy description of QC going to production pay. I'm glad I got out while I did. I was happy as Transcend QA but when Nuance took over I knew it was time to go. Good luck to all you QC folks.

Wish I made $16 but only make $13.50...would love a raise - overworked

Maybe you are overworked because you guys are so nitpicky - Just sayin

An, is, the, of are not words that impact patient care in any way. In addition, most of the time they do not change the meaning of a sentence.

If you spent your time focusing on real errors, we would all be so much happier.

We don't exactly have a choice on the nitpicking. We're taught this way and told to do it this way. Believe me, it's a royal pain in the a**. I was an MLS and never ever had problems with QA/QC percentage before Nuance took over. Because of the nitpicking that I'm now charged to do. I try as hard as I can to steer clear, but it's hard to do when you're being watched as well. Ugh.

Funny, how in a meeting with Nuance's upper management that we were all in, there was a lady, (and I forget her name), that said - "we have to stop being so particular, if it doesn't change the meaning just leave words out"... Such as if the doctor does not make a complete sentence, etc. "It will not make a difference with patient care." Oh, but when it comes to the bonuses they act like everything is so-so important to have everything just perfect. That's just so you don't get the bonus. I never check my QA/QC... It's not that I don't respect the QA/QC person's job, but I don't get paid for checking it... I'm supposed to be typing, and I don't have time. Secondly, I have done this job for well over 20 years, worked in many hospitals and for many doctors... and most of them don't care.... There are a few that do... and surprise some don't even read their reports. So if a comma is not there it's not gonna make a big difference. Also, with the EMR systems now, the physician, the nurse, or medical assistant type it in themselves and it usually looks horrible. It is so sad what happened to this job..... Working at home is not worth it anymore.... if you want to have a future with decent employment... Sorry, but that's my opinion ....

I am testing for a QA position with Nuance and the instructions say to use a buffer space before and after filling in a blank. Does anyone know how to do this.

I try very hard to not be nitpicky because... - I hate it Myself...SM

When I was an MLS, I hated it when QA/QC was nitpicky on me. I have always said that, if I see something that doesn't affect patient care, I wouldn't even mark it - and usually I don't. If it is major - incorrect diagnoses, medication, lab value, etc., then yes, I will ding for that. But - I agree with ALL the posts on this board that dinging for every little if, and or comma is just a power trip. I won't do it - and will defend my actions to anyone above me who asks. It is demeaning to the MLS, detrimental to their self-esteem and does nothing but make them paranoid. I think that's wrong - it hurts everyone in the long run. I am sorry to those of you who have been dinged unnecessarily by QC/QA on a power trip for invalid blanks and the like. It just seems wrong to me.

I actually have never dinged for punctuation, I just fix it and move on. I've even omitted words if typed twice. Little things I tend to overlook honestly, that is why I don't like it when people here say all QC/QA are horrible, some of us are not.

What I don't understand and wish someone would explain, when the hospitals receive these reports of percentage accuracy (especially when it is under 99%) are they understanding that some, if not most, of these errors ARE indeed nitpicky and do not affect patient care (such as hyphens and certain commas)? I just don't understand how it helps anyone to have this figured into percentages. Of course, it keeps ME from ever reaching a bonus or incentive, so I guess it makes sense for Nuance in that way. I just had a report with 97% accuracy - the one mistake was I put "David Scott, MD" instead of "Dr. David Scott". I could not believe that one. And I have lived through the continual degrading of my belief in myself over the course of this year.

I hate this so much as well. When I was an MLS, I NEVER made incentive with Nuance because of these same things. My favorite was "a" and "the", as well as the time I pended some jobs that I was TOLD to pend...got dinged for every single one (there were 7) and then was told i could not get a correction reversal for it "because it was already in FIESA". Screwed up the whole quarter for me.

Annual Raises Or Merit Raises?

Raises????

Independent Contracting And Raises
Oct 26, 2009

I am finally leaving the broken world of transcription vending to become an independent contractor once again.  I am so very fortunate enough to have benefits through my husband's employer, so it's the pay I am really missing.  Is it unreasonable to put a raise in the contract?  The hospital basically told me they are not contracting for as much $ as they used to (yet another slap in the face of my career), and kind of hinted that raises are a joke.  When I follow ...

Maybe you are new and think they will.  Maybe you are old and think they will.  They won't.  Maybe they don't use this tactic anymore, but when I was there it was "Give Yourself A Raise." That meant produce more.  They don't give raises.  Don't waste your time E-mailing anybody.  Get mad.  Sure.  Even quit, find yourself a better career.  But don't hold your breath.  There will be no raises.  They don't need you ...
