What's an hourly rate? - Jenn

Posted: Dec 26, 2009

I am thinking of getting into medical transcription but all I read on here is negative posts about how little work is available and how you are all getting paid less than you were last year.  Now, please don't flame me, I know this is a cheeky question, but to be quite honest ".08 cpl" doesn't mean much to me.  Would anyone mind telling me what they actually earn per hour (when the work is there) and how many hours per day they generally work.  It will just give me an idea.

I have two jobs and make a little more than 8 cpl - Jan

[ In Reply To ..]
I make myself LOTS of templates so very little typing and between both jobs I ranged between $24 and $30 per hour for 8-hour days. I only have six years of experience and I have been making that income the whole six years. That's just MY story though. Other people haver far different experiences.

Remember $24 to $30 an hour as an IC is really only about $12 or $13 to $14 or $15 an hour - MT who knows

[ In Reply To ..]
That is great $24 to $30 an hour -- BUT . . . remember that if you are working as an IC, $24.00 an hour to $30.00 an hour is really only about $12.00 to $15.00 an hour after all the taxes you have to keep out yourself that your employer who normally pay. It always sounds great to make $24.00 to $30.00 an hour, but remember that working for an employer making $24.00 to $30.00 is completely a different story than working as an IC at $24.00 to $30.00. The employee is actually making $24.00 to $30.00 an hour, because his employer is paying half of the taxes, etc.

hourly rate - Tara

[ In Reply To ..]
The taxes part may be true, however, as an IC, you are able to deduct all your expenses to counteract the taxes. You can deduct utilities for the portion of the house you use as your office, you can deduct your internet costs, if you buy anything for remodeling your home, you can deduct a portion of that too. You can deduct your computer, printer, keyboards, foot pedals, etc. I make 8 cpl and I can make up to as much as $60 an hour depending on the quality of the audio. Getting paid per line depends on the audio and how fast you can type, how experienced you are (this factors in to how much you have to look stuff up) and your internet speed and how fast you can download/upload reports. There is good money involved in MT'ing, but you have to really land an awesome job with great dictators. I'm one of the very lucky ones.
If I was a betting person, would say no one else makes - $60.00 an hour, in fact have big doubts about your
[ In Reply To ..]
What you are throwing out is probably the biggest amount for an hourly pay that I have ever seen in over 35 years of doing this work. I hope someone does not see and think realistic because as you and others know very well, IF that is true, big IF there, most are having a terrible time struggling to pay bills. You sound like one of those matchbook covers- You too can get rich on this work.
60 an hour - Tara
[ In Reply To ..]
As I said in my post, I'm one of the lucky ones. I work for someone that has nothing but english speaking doctors. I can type a whole report without ever once taking my foot off the pedal. I can type as fast as they speak, which is why I said you have to type fast. I, of course, have word expanders that help as well. I don't make that all the time, every hour, but it is a potential for me quite often. Again, I am one of the lucky ones!
60 an hour - Tara
[ In Reply To ..]
I should say I don't make an hourly rate of $60 - I get paid 8 cpl and because of how fast I type and the excellent audio, I can make up to $60 an hour. I just wanted to clarify that.
My math must SUCK!!! - Robyn
[ In Reply To ..]
so you type ALMOST 800 lines per hour......how many words per minute is that? That's ridiculous for ANYONE to assume that they could type 800 lines per hour. Do you do this the whole 8-hour shift?
I turn my speed as fast as it will go, hold my pedal - down and guarantee no $60 an hour
[ In Reply To ..]
Sounds really far fetched to me and I am sure others, what did the person say 800 lines per hour??
$60.00 an hour - MT who knows
[ In Reply To ..]
Well, if you make $60.00 an hour as a medical transcriptionist, you better stay at your current job and pray that it doesn't change, because there are many more variables that determine wages than experience, knowledge, computer skill, or just how fat you type in general. I am no longer in the field, but I have almost 20 years, am formally educated in healthcare with a certification, very computer literate, and have a bachelor's degree. I know for a fact that anyone who works as an IC/freelancer/or whatever can take the same deductions; it is not limited to medical transcription. I also know that no one (or very, very few) are make anywhere near $60.00 an hour as a medical transcriptionist - I wasn't born yesterday. :-)
Tara, now you know darned well - you are not making that much money.
[ In Reply To ..]
There is no way. You make 8 cpl. Even with English speaking doctors and not lifting your foot, there is no way you are transcribing that many lines. Please be true to yourself and to others on this board.
darned well - Tara
[ In Reply To ..]
I AM making that much money so too bad for you if you're not. I apparently am not the only one making that kind of money either if you read some of the other posts. More power to me I guess!
I have my doubts as well - MT who knows
[ In Reply To ..]
I agree. From my experience over many years, I have serious doubts about the truth of this posting. If in fact you are truthful, I apologize; however, from my many years experience with many different people using many different systems, I seriously doubt this claim as well. This definitely would get a wishy-washy person all pumped up to think that they could make $60.00 an hour; however, the reality is, the MT field has taken a huge cut all across the board in the last 10 years and continues to go downhill. Honestly in 10 more years, I look for VR technology to be so advanced that MTs, "editors" etc. will no longer exist and the medical records departments will be very small or consist only of a manager and support personnel for the manager. I think that most of the "record-keeping" will be an IT task.
I agree - one also has to wonder about the quality - that she is putting out
[ In Reply To ..]
I've been doing this 11 years now. I'm pretty fast, I have all English speaking docs, I have word/sentence/paragraph expander, don't have to hardly ever look anything up anymore, and sometimes I know what the docs are going to say before they end their sentence, but $60 an hour? (which equates to 750 lines per hour) I think it is statements like this that are very misleading to anyone wanting to get into this field. I went to school to learn this because I kept reading that people could make $60-80 an hour, but once through I belonged to an MT group that would have monthly meetings, and even the people who ran the group said that is misleading. A good MT could make possibly up to $40/hour but they'd have to be really good, own their own accounts, etc. It's just very unrealistic to think someone can make $60 or more an hour.

On top of that I have seen over the past few years work getting lower and lower and lower. I work for a company where I would have work into the night and could work til 8pm if I wanted. Now the work is usually completed before 6pm.

It is a very "unsteady" feeling to know the direction our work is going. I'm grateful to have my job. On a good day I make about $14 to $16 an hour, but then I have to pay my taxes out of that each quarter. On top of that for the person who said that they can deduct everything. That happens once a year. It doesn't help when you are trying to figure out an hourly wage to pay your bills and buy food each month.
Sorry, but you're totally wrong. - Meg
[ In Reply To ..]
According to you, "A good MT could make possibly up to $40/hour but they'd have to be really good, own their own accounts, etc."

It's not that hard or that unusual.

I consistently draw over $40/hr as an employee. Have for years, with very little effort. I also get full bennies, so I'm sure that adds some to the value of my pay.

Perhaps instead of everyone bashing the OP for truthfully telling us how much she makes, y'all should be asking her how you can jump on the gravy train.

Of course, she has no reason to tell you, after you've all shown yourselves to be backbiting, harping guttersnipes.

But to claim nobody's making $40+ just because YOU'RE not making $40+ is more a reflection on YOU than the industry in general.

My 2 cents. Keep the change.
Meg, most people here do not make that kind of - salary doing MTing and Tara
[ In Reply To ..]
finally told us how it was done, which by the way is NOT the way most do here. Tara counts a line whether it has 10 words on it or 1 word. When you say I make XXX an hour and it is a big amount, of course people take notice, only human nature to do so. Most who have done this work for many years knows also humanly impossible to transcribe that many lines in an hours time and make $60.00 per hour at 8 cents line, that is not humanly possible. Nothing is reflection on a person's ability if they do not make so much an hour. Even in my hayday of 2 jobs per week, working approximately 13 hours per day still averaged around $50 per hour and that was both jobs included. Now working less than 40 hours per week and so much nicer. There are people on here who are barely keeping their heads about water, much less making the amount you and Tara both claim to make. I think anyone who has never done this job finds posts like these and thinks, oh that could be my salary also. Now be realistic!
So only "average" people should respond to questions? - Meg
[ In Reply To ..]
The question wasn't what "most" people make. The poster asked what people made per hour.

Nobody came on here and said, "Most MTs make $60 per hour." Someone said she CAN and HAS made $60 per hour and clearly stated that mileage may vary.

And then a bunch of mooks jumped all over her, calling hear a liar and a fraud. That's digraceful!!!

Until you have been elected to speak for everyone, please afford others the courtesy of speaking for themselves.

[ In Reply To ..]
Meg, thank you for your backup and support. That is exactly what the question was - what do people make. I answered her. How was I supposed to know that that is not what the average person makes when I make that at two jobs that I have. I appreciate your support.

YOU said average, your thinking I guess only you stand - out in your earnings
[ In Reply To ..]
I speak for myself and I see where others are saying basically the same. I am not average, most people do not consider themselves average, your words. Most MTs with just a grain of sense know that you do not type 8 cents a line and in an hour's time you do $60.00 worth. You and Tara be buddy-buddy, after all you are wayyyyyyyy above the others here.

Again, it is possible depending on the account you are working on. I have doctors that are very clear as if you were having a conversation with them, absolutely no stumbling over their dictation, no scratch that or strike that, no long pauses, just constant dictation that you can clearly understand and nothing needs to be looked up. These doctors dictate according to their template and go right in order with all headings without missing a beat. It is also the same doctors over and over again. You can believe what you want, but this is what I make. I don't make it every hour that I work, but most of the time I do. Again, as I've said in my other posts, it's not my problem you didn't take the time to find the perfect account like I did. I'm not asking you to believe it, I answered the question of the OP as to how much I make. I answered her honestly. It's not my problem if you don't believe me, but I answered her according to my experience.
60 an hour?? BULL! - MT30+
[ In Reply To ..]
I have had a really bad week but I just had to answer this post. I have been doing this stuff for nearly 33 years. There is no way on 8 cpl you can EVER make 60 bucks anh our. That would have to be 750 lines per hour which cannot be done I don't care how experienced you are. O well unless you are doing negative chest x-rays or something and then I doubt that seriously.

I have one of the easiest jobs I have ever had, very rarely have to look anything up and I type 130 wpm! 700+ lines an hour is a pipe dream. Do you work for one of these school or what butyou are full of crap!

[ In Reply To ..]
I have worked in this field for 35+ years and I find this extremely hard to believe. I also had good dictators but other than one particular doc, could NEVER just leave my foot on the pedal and just type by the hour. That's unreal and VERY hard to believe. One doc did dictate so slow I about went to sleep; however, if they are that slow you are not really typing anything either as you are waiting for them to say something. I also had typed many times some 140 lines per hour but could not do this consistently every day. I wouldn't even work for 8 cpl anyway. That's an insult to me. I'm no longer in transcription because there just "ain't" any money in it any longer. It is a DYING occupation, to say the least. Good bye to a dead occupation. I loved it while it lasted.

IC taxes - Happy MT Robin

[ In Reply To ..]
The ONLY tax that you pay as an IC that you do not pay as an employee is the 7.65% employer's portion of FICA. You pay federal withholding and state withholding as an employee or IC.

You also get to deduct that 7.65% of your employer's portion FICA on your 1040 at the end of the year. Plus, as another poster said you get to deduct way more as an IC than you do as an employee.

IC deductions - MT who knows
[ In Reply To ..]
Yes, I know. Anyone who works independently takes the same kind of deductions as an independent work as a medical transcriptionist; however, I think that MTs need to examine closely how their independent status is exactly structured, meaning their contracts, pay, etc. -- it is not the same as other independent workers. Also, as an independent worker you can choose not to pay unemployment insurance taxes; however, if something should happen (like all MTs no longer have jobs due to very low pay and all work to India), then you can't collect on what you didn't contribute.

Is this Straight typing? Any of it VR? - lindawordlady

[ In Reply To ..]
I used to make 9.5 cpl as an IC and it was great... straight typing. I lost that job though due to the docs going to an MTSO.

Now I am with a company that I do not want to name doing ALL VR and am lucky to average $9.50 an hour. I have 20 years of experience. I don't care how many macros you have, they would not work for VR cuz it's all editing all the time. In other words all those macros would work well for straight typing but not for VR.

I am just interested in how this can be done. Any openings where you are at, please let me know.
I can do 130-140 lpm and even with weighted reports and - canned reports, never ever

[ In Reply To ..]
Wow I didn't think this would spark such a response. The OP asked what .08 cpl was and how much everyone made an hour. I told her what I make plain and simple. Now before you all sit here and flame me, why don't you take into consideration that maybe I don't do straight medical? How about the fact that I don't work on a platform? Every company is different in how they count their lines. The company I work for counts a line even if I only type one word into it. The Word line count feature is used, not a platform that counts all your words or 65 characters and divides them. As I said, I'm one of the lucky few to have a job like this. I type 140 wpm at the very minimum and yes I can type straight through without ever taking my foot off the pedal. I know eventually this job will drop off like others I've had, I'm no idiot, but for now I'm going to enjoy it. The OP didn't specify in her question how the lines were counted. If she would have asked specifically what 0.8 cpl would be based on 65-characters, I wouldn't have responded, but she didn't specify. For all I know she is getting a job where I work and I answered her truthfully. All medical fields are different and I for one can admit that I could never make what I make doing acute care or radiology. The OP didn't specify what field she is going into and that makes a huge difference as well when it comes to making money. You should really take into consideration all the variables that could apply to someone making upwards of $60 an hour before completely trying to rip them apart because it is possible in my field and in the job that I have.
Now, I do not think you are foolish and you know good and well - exactly what a person is asking about
[ In Reply To ..]
Your I do XXX number of lines per hour was very misleading and you knew that when you said you made $60 an hour. Most on her do not type 1 word on a line and it be considered a line and you also know that. Good thing you are not in sales and trying to sell someone something. That would fall under the category of misrepresentation.
per hour - Tara
[ In Reply To ..]
I was being truthful in what I know. The OP never specified what kind of lines so I was not being misleading. I have worked for many companies in my career, and there is only one company that I worked for that counted on a 65-character line with a platform. The rest of the companies either paid per word, per page, per report, or by the straight line and in fact I work for another company using the same word feature with the same line types (one word) making 0.12 cpl so do the math on that one what I make per hour. All companies are different and some people land the more fortunate companies. I personally work for smaller companies, one being local to me that I found on my own, not an MTSO. I would have been misleading if she specified that she was wondering on a 65-character line, but she didn't specify. She said 0.8 cpl and that was all she asked and I answered.

[ In Reply To ..]
I finally came clean? I was never being deceitful. The OP asked a question and I told her what I was making. Did I say that everyone can make that? Did I imply it? No, I did not. I said there are a lot of factors that go into making that kind of money, which includes experience, of which she doesn't have yet. I never said she is going to make that kind of money, I said I make that kind of money. She asked a question, I answered. If she finds the right job with the right company, can type fast, and is smart, the possibility is there. Everyone on this board is so darn negative constantly telling these new MT's that there is no money to be made. Everyone is constantly telling them that the wages are going down and the field is dying, which may be in some areas and with some major companies, but it's not dead everywhere and the wages aren't going down everywhere. If you all are too lazy to look around for the right job then that's your problem. If I apply for a job and get a test that consists of an ESL or a doctor that I can't understand, I don't waste my time on the test because I know if that's the kind of work they have, I won't make any money. I landed my job when the field was good - over three years ago - and I haven't looked back since. I still look around for jobs, but like I said I won't even waste my time with anything I know is going to take me too long. Call me a cherrypicker if you will, but I'm no dummy when it comes to needing to provide for my family. It's not my problem if you all have settled for a job that doesn't pay the kind of money you would like to make, but if a person is smart about it when they enter this field, they can find something similar to what I'm doing and in fact you just never know when I will give that new MT the name of the company I work for so he/she can blow you all out of the water with the wages he/she is making. We are all supposed to be MT's and somewhat of a "family" and support each other and instead of asking how I make that much or who I might work for (which I definitely will not share now with any of you now) you all start flaming and throwing around accusations and name calling. Grow the heck up. No wonder all the MTSO's are going with overseas MT's because if I owned a company and had to deal with the likes of you, I would outsource to India too! At least they are probably grateful for what they do have instead of constantly griping and putting each other down and trying to scare new MT's away. I have been doing this for 11 years and I have done nothing but been successful in this line of work and if I can give encouragement to anyone else you are darn right I'm going to. I appreciate all I have received doing this job and it's really too bad that the rest of you don't.

I used to make that, and more. - A. Nony. Moso.

[ In Reply To ..]
Local account, private practice, doctors who truly valued my abilities and paid accordingly. Paid by the word (not by the line), lots and lots of templates/expansions/shortcuts, such that I too could just put the pedal to the metal and not come up for air. This even with fast dictators. I was so used to them, I could just fly through their reports, often anticipating what they were going to say before they said it.

Why did I leave that job? Not by choice. They closed the practice. Now I work for a national, where there's no consideration given for superior experience and skills (I've been at this for decades).

Perhaps I should also mention I am a very fast typist. At my present job, on a BAD day I average at least 200 lines per hour (and that's the common 65 cpl type of line). Of course I have all my tools and toys working at full capacity.

So, while it is definitely not the norm in this field, it IS doable, under the right circumstances.

To the OP, you are very, very lucky, and I wish you the very best. May you keep that job as long as it suits you to do so! More power to ya! (But take it from one who knows... stash away as much spare cash as you can against that day when it might go away....)

I used to make that and more - Tara

Finally, a nice person that has experienced what I am experiencing. I know how fast it can go and I am cherishing it. I actually had a full-time job with benefits that I did at home that I lost to VR and EMR. Just like that it was gone after many years. However, I was paid hourly and it was pennies compared to what I'm making now on production, but it was easy work and an easy paycheck that was hard to lose. All in all though it was probably a blessing in disguise since it frees up my time to work production. Anyway, thanks for stepping up and sharing your experience. I just cannot get over how negative everyone is on here and still don't know why I keep coming back to read and to post.

Now, here once again, I used to work with a person who probably made that much; however she was cheating big time, really big time and finally got her just desserts in the end. I did not ask where you work, I do not care where you work. I am able to make enough money that I like and do not have to stoop to anything such as 1 word on a line to make a decent salary. Whoo, 11 big years. I am so not impressed. You are deceitful, to say the least. As an experienced transcriptionist, and 1 of 35+ years, I and others could smell a rat in the bunch and sure enough, that is what it turned out to be.

You can call me a cheat and liar all you want, but that is what I make. As far as stooping to a one word line, you can't tell me you wouldn't take it if given the opportunity. I get paid for everything I type, everything I change in the template, headers, spaces, lines, etc. I was smart about it when I came into this field and I made sure that I didn't settle for crappy ESL work, platform work, etc. All I did was answer a question from the OP and this is what I got. Complete disrespect from people who are supposed to be just like me. It's not my problem the rest of you are bitter because you are stuck with ESL docs or VR. This is what I make at this particular job. I'm good at what I do, I'm smart about the work, and it's not my problem that the rest of you can't make what I make.

Whoo! Well, if that's not enough to put me off becoming a medical transcriptionist, I don't know what is! Thank you Jan and Tara for answering my question. I'm sorry that you have been flamed in such a way. I thought I would be mixing with professional businesspeople but I see the people who use these boards are mean-minded nasty individuals. Perhaps they should spend their time seeking higher-quality work and honing their skills instead of being bitter about other people's success. I would like to make 2 points. Firstly, I have received 9 emails privately from people earning anywhere between $30 and $60 an hour. When they saw what Tara went through, who can blame them for not wanting to post publicly? Secondly, it's noticeable that of all of you who are so busy flaming, not one of you answered the original question. How much do you earn per hour? If that is how you follow instructions on your job, no wonder you are still at the bottom of the ladder...

Jenn, most of us don't care to post our salaries publicly. - And I think you just found out why.
[ In Reply To ..]
And most of us don't make anywhere near $60 an hour, most of the time. Once in a while we might get close, for a few minutes, if we are lucky enough to hit the string of totally-templated procedures (cataract surgeries, for instance) where the whole report is a "freebie" and all we have to enter is the number of diopters, and which eye. Or the EGDs and colonoscopies where they only change a couple of things, and the rest is identical text from patient to patient. But we can't count on getting that lucky every day, and there are only so many procedures one dictator can do in any given day, so we can't type 8 hours' worth of straight cataract surgeries and make beaucoup bucks for the day.

It all depends on way too many factors to give any kind of "ballpark" figure, but the the two most important factors are whatever line rate you can negotiate for yourself, and your speed.

For instance... if you make 8 cents per line and your speed runs at 150 lines per hour, you will make $12 per hour. If you make 9 cents a line and your speed runs at 200 lines per hour, you will make $18 per hour. And so forth.

However... a brand-new MT cannot expect to be paid even 8 CPL right out of the gate, unless she is very, very lucky; and when one is new to the job, the speed is not going to be there just yet. As a newbie, one might expect 7 CPL and perhaps 100 LPH, which comes out to 7 bucks an hour. As your speed increases, so will your average hourly rate, but it's a long hard uphill climb. (I personally haven't made 7 bucks an hour since 1979.)

And let's not forget the "perks" of working at home, which include saving on gas money and not having to invest in work-appropriate clothing.

Anyway... the best of luck to you, and I sincerely hope you succeed, in whatever career choice you make. Pick whatever pearls of wisdom you can find here and ignore the rest.

my salary and retirement coming in. Now the work I do during the month is doubled with my retirement checks. This lady is certainly not bitter. I do half the work and make twice as much, how good is that?

I have never seen so many ill-spirited people in one place! You'd think it was the politics board.

You certainly didn't deserve the cynical bashing you got. Why all these people are so willing to cast aspersions and hurl insults is beyond me!

Happy new year to you!

What's an hourly rate? - eagles_fan

When I worked in an office as an employee, I worked 38.75 hours per week and made $18.00 per hour with benefits.

I'm currently working at home as an IC. I make $14.00 per hour with no benefits. I don't have a set number of hours per week. I give them an invoice every week with the number of hours I worked. My hours fluctuate every week because the amount of work fluctuates.

I have also worked in offices as an MT employed by a temp agency. I worked 37.5 hours per week, and I made $13.00 or $14.00 per hour with no benefits.

I hope this is helpful.

Hourly Rate Versus Cpl
Mar 01, 2011

Been at a cushy happy place clinic job for a few years, no audits, laid back, nice.  Making 18 d/h.  Type the same stuff, over and over.  Boring, but no nail biting.  I produce 300+/hr.  Should I take a position from home?  Will I be making a mistake? I need some opinions pleeease. ...

What's A Fairly Hourly Rate?

Average Hourly Rate
Jun 29, 2011

I'm re-applying to MQ as I desperately need a job.  My question is, are you all able to make at least $10.00 per hour still??  I ask because in searching around, it looks like $10.00 is the best I'm going to be able to do.  I do radiology so I will probably end up doing a lot of editing which I have never done before, so I'm just curious to see if $10.00 is realistic doing both straight typing and/or editing?  Any info appreciated.  Such a shame that its c ...

What Is A Fair Hourly Rate?
Mar 29, 2014

Can anybody please tell me what is a fair hourly rate for a transcriptionist in a single-doctor office in Texas? The last time I worked as an MT in a clinic was 18 years ago. I then worked for a large hospital and made about $9 more an hour than my highest clinic pay. After getting laid off, I worked for N for a few months and have been out of the MT field for a little over a year. Thanks in advance! ...

Pay By Line Versus Hourly Rate
Sep 16, 2010

Hi all. I'm a newbie to these boards. I've been reading all the posts here about the VR programs.  More production + more hours = less pay. Does anyone here work for a company that has gone to an hourly rate instead of pay per line?  And if so, what are your thoughts/experience on this?  I'm working for a company that has changed us all over to hourly pay and I'm still very unhappy. ...

Is An Hourly Rate For QA/editor Unusual?
Jul 11, 2011

Also, how much experience do Account Manager/Shift Manager types have?  Years ago I worked for a couple of MTSOs and my "supervisors" had less experience than me (and would have to ask me to figure out blanks in reports) so I'm guessing its often just a matter of how long you've been there and who you know and sometimes how much you're willing to put up with (one supervisor bragged that she worked about 20 hours a day). ...

Regarding Hourly - They Upped Line Rate But...
Dec 01, 2011

... it is still not possible to make minimum wage even for those of us who edit VR at lightning speed, because there is no work during many of the shifts (mine).  I've been promised another account, told no other shift is available.  A line rate increase will not help me at all.  They have sent most of the work overseas now, lost a few accounts, and cannot afford to lose all US MTs.  I am aware of nine others besides me, who have lawyers. Update On Fair Hourly Rate Question
Apr 05, 2014

Last week I asked what you all thought was a fair hourly rate for a one-doctor clinic MT. I went to the interview on Tuesday. The job ad was for a "medical records transcriptionist." The office uses an EMR. The nurse practitioner uses the EMR, but the doctor uses a piece of paper that resembles the EMR screen and checks the appropriate boxes and writes additional comments. The job is to take those papers and input the data in the EMR. It's not actual transcription, no headset or foot pedal ...

Provider Going To EMR -- Hourly Vs CPL?
Jun 08, 2011

One of my providers is going to switch over to EMR.  I've looked into the program and it's got a similar document section to MS Word.  However, with them going to EMR, I'm assuming I'll lose quite a bit of my bulk work (macros, etc) that I currently have with "straight typing." So my question is this ... is it worth it to transcribe EMR for a CPL rate or is it better to renegotiate my "contract" and go hourly?  I'm an IC/MTSO so get no benefits. Would ap ...
