A community of 30,000 US Transcriptionist serving Medical Transcription Industry
Last week I asked what you all thought was a fair hourly rate for a one-doctor clinic MT. I went to the interview on Tuesday. The job ad was for a "medical records transcriptionist." The office uses an EMR. The nurse practitioner uses the EMR, but the doctor uses a piece of paper that resembles the EMR screen and checks the appropriate boxes and writes additional comments. The job is to take those papers and input the data in the EMR. It's not actual transcription, no headset or foot pedal needed.
I was told I was the only applicant who had actual transcription experience and that they weren't interviewing many people (I had to be interviewed by 3 people and met the doctor). I was told they would let me know by the end of the week. Since I haven't heard from them, they must not be interested in me. Money wasn't discussed, but I put on the application I wanted $15/hour. Guess I asked for too much, especially for such an easy job.
My experience so far in applying for positions online (business/academic/hospital) is that one must put an anticipated amount or the application will not go forward to the next page. Also, the space will not take anything other than a number. Good luck!
