Is an hourly rate for QA/editor unusual? - anon

Also, how much experience do Account Manager/Shift Manager types have? Years ago I worked for a couple of MTSOs and my "supervisors" had less experience than me (and would have to ask me to figure out blanks in reports) so I'm guessing its often just a matter of how long you've been there and who you know and sometimes how much you're willing to put up with (one supervisor bragged that she worked about 20 hours a day).

No, not at all unusual. Usually when you have to type reports as well at some companies as a QA person you also get paid like a regular MT with how much you produce and get that added onto your paycheck. I also don't really know how much experience you need to be an AM/supervisor so I'm sorry I'm of no help with that question, but I hope my answer at least somewhat helps you out :)

When you get above QA level, you usually get into a lot of - non-MT management figures.

Sometimes they have degrees, but quite a few of them have never typed a medical word in their lives. Still, they learn the business, but they can't identify with what an MT genuinely goes through, so they tend to be bean counters only.

I can't speak for every MT company out there, but I can speak for the ones I've worked for. If a company is hiring people in QA who've NEVER typed a medical word, they are a shoddy company. In the companies I've worked for, you had to prove yourself as an MT before you were considered for QA, meaning you had to work for them for some time with little to no work going to QA due to blanks and have an audit score above average. With this being the case, they CAN and DO understand what an MT goes through, because they've been there.

Can anybody please tell me what is a fair hourly rate for a transcriptionist in a single-doctor office in Texas? The last time I worked as an MT in a clinic was 18 years ago. I then worked for a large hospital and made about $9 more an hour than my highest clinic pay. Last week I asked what you all thought was a fair hourly rate for a one-doctor clinic MT. I went to the interview on Tuesday. The job ad was for a "medical records transcriptionist." The office uses an EMR. The nurse practitioner uses the EMR, but the doctor uses a piece of paper that resembles the EMR screen and checks the appropriate boxes and writes additional comments.
