Greetings, fellow transcriptionists. I've been in the field for over 15 years. Due to a recent buyout of my current MTSO by a huge conglomerate, there is talk of our line rates being cut, apparently down to as low as 8 cents a line. Needless to say, I'm considering looking elsewhere since this is a major paycut. I'm eyeballing Transcend as I've heard good things and know they used to pay decently. Anyone in the know, do they still go up to 9 cents a line or are they too cutting rates? Thanks to all for replying.

[ In Reply To ..]$0.08 cpl for straight typing and $0.04 cpl is just about as good as it's going to get at any of the MTSOs - unfortunately you will be lucky to see even 5-10% straight typing reports on any given day.

[ In Reply To ..]0.845 straight at Transcend with a small shift differential for working 3rd. Editing was about 0.412 or something like that. PTO is paid at $12/hour no matter what your production per hour may be. I declined as it is considerably less than I make now on 1st shift with about 80/20 editing/straight transcription split. PTO where I'm at now is paid according to production broken down by hourly rate.

[ In Reply To ..]I went from 12 to 11.5 to 11 to 10.5 within a 1.5 month period....someone else had posted that they were making 11 - but I left and after two years, have found a decent place and rate. And no, I'm not going to reveal it! :)

This was only 1 or 2 years ago. Was told "this is the way the industry is going". Good luck! Aint gonna get better than that. I know, since I have been looking for work for almost a year.

I was under the impression (and maybe misinformation) that Transcend still paid 9 cents a line. I guess I'd better just stay with the company I'm with. Will be very glad to be out of this industry in a few years (I'm currently in college for a degree in another field).

I've been working for Medquist/M-Modal now for 11 years Full-time. I was one of those grandfathered in that took a pay cut last year as Medquist deemed they would not pay above .10 cents a line. I am looking at ads here and keep seeing things like 3 cpl for editing. Who could work for that rate and why? These MTSOs really need an awakening. No one should work for 3 cpl. Does getting paid for spaces add about 2 cents to line rate? I was getting 10 cpl for an account (not paid for spaces) and then lost that to offshoring. The new account pays 8 cpl, but paid for spaces, so they say that's equivalent. Does that sound right? Is that the average rate now? I have decided I will not accept any MT transcription rates lower than 9 cpl (in an employee position) or 11 cpl (in an IC position). For medical editing, I'm not going to work for lower than 50% of the transcription rate. For me, it will just not be worth it to do it for less. Can anyone explain to me the line rates on the new pay stubs. Mine is not showing my actual lines, just the money. When I go to the web site for the breakdown it shows 4 different rates that seem to vary from week to week. They are Week 1 TR, Week 2 TR, Week 1 SR and week 2 SR.
