I've diversified out to general transcription as well as medical. Getting mad isn't going to help anything.

His office used EMR because they could not afford transcription services anymore. Thats funny, because after thinking about it, I realized I couldn't afford to transcribe anymore, wonder where all the profits are going!

they are going to give hospitals millions to switch??? wow, so take that already minute paycheck of mine taxes out to help get rid of me (and yes it will get rid of some MTs)

I worked for a paperless hospital. All that meant was that all the records were in the computer instead of in a paper chart. They still had a full MT staff that typed reports, they were just never printed. They were signed digitally and stayed in the electronic chart. I really liked their EMR, it was great for us, we could access every treatment that that patient had gotten, past meds, etc.

Regarding private physician practices, there is this point-and-click system that may not require any transcriptionist to complete.

Regarding the hospital electronic medical record, that type of report still requires transcriptionists or VR editors to process before the final report is scanned in to the online system.

Private physician practices have never traditionally hired many MTs - and usually pay very little

Most MTs work for the services or sometimes the hospitals and large clinics. Doctors rarely ever have hired many MTs. Some of them still don't have computers. Others still write their notes in longhand. It's no big loss to lose the private doctors, but the hospitals and large clinics require greater skill levels in order to be successful, in my opinion.

I can't imagine the point and click system gives you much information, but whatever, good thing I don't utilize that hospital.

Every change is not negative. Every change does not mean the end of the world.

I am surprised at how many cannot think this one out.

The OPs below are right on!
1. EMR does not mean that no MTs will be needed. It simply means that all records will be put only to an electronic format.
2. Private MDs and clinics do not hold the highest percentage of MTs. The changes to their smaller offices will not devastate or even cause a ripple in the water for the MT field.

from ASR!!!! Have this report where the dictator not only is standing RIGHT ON TOP of someone else who is talking, the ASR is catching it, and I am having to remove more than I add. Also, she is saying 'uuuuuummmmm" every other word and the ASR is catching it as "home" and I have to delete that too.... Sigh......... ...

Sentence dictated as "She also has a small C5/6 {s/l DISS}." He's really emphasizing the "ISS" sound. I know it would make sence for it to be disc, but the sentence sounds incomplete to me? I feel like there should be herniation or protrusion or bulging at the end of the sentence if it were "disc"? Could the "diss" sounding word be short for something? Thank you!! ...

When you read it, it sounds like the person/persons they are looking for would bring a lot of experience and talent to their company. I hear both sides. My only problem is that I have been here for 8 years and making just over half what I started at.
