Question for MTSO managers..... - magmed

How would you feel if your superior/boss/CEO emailed you and stated there is nothing for you to do this week, so you won't be getting paid; HOWEVER, you must be available in case there is work, so make sure you sit there by the phone so we can call you if we need you and you better be available IMMEDIATELY. We expect work to be available next week and you can just cram in 80 hrs to make up for the lost week of work. How does that sound?
What the hell is wrong with these companies promising "tons of work" and that is the furthest thing from the truth.
We are REQUIRED to meet their line counts, maintain quality, be available on your shift, but hey, if there's no work, just sit tight without a paycheck coming in because "it's a holiday" "it's the slow season" "it's the slow time of year" "it will pick up" etc. etc. etc.
So sick of the BS and lies.

[ In Reply To ..]It isn't going to get better. If you plan to get out of MT, a really good way to do it is to use that "sit and wait" time to study for a new career.
I learned coding that way through Andrews. There are also colleges that have really low tuition for their online programs. You can do it if you are determined to do it.
I was way older, too, so I don't think age is a hindrance.

No, I do not work from home, but I could with my current employer or others, and I can work for contract coding companies if I wish. I have the experience to make that possible, though.
It is very difficult to get a remote coding job at first. Nothing about them is going to help you advance. You will do a lot better to plan on working on-site for a while. I don't think there are any "work if and when you feel like it" jobs in coding, either, so you really need to plan for a professiinal career if you go into coding.

I have had only good experiences with TT account managers. They have always answered my emails promptly and been very willing to be flexible with my scheduliing. AD has always taken the time to make personal phone calls to MTs when more info is needed or something didn't go through the system, to make sure they get paid on time. I personally know someone who works as a middle manager for Nuance, makes well over 50,000 and has had constant raises since being hired. Do you think the MTSOs cut their rates to their clients who are now using VR just as they have cut their MTs rates?
