A community of 30,000 US Transcriptionist serving Medical Transcription Industry
I am currently awaiting a call from my boss about going salary for my position as an MT, and I have no patience , so just for fun I googled "how much salary does a medical transciptionist get paid" and I clicked on this link to one of those question/answer sites where someone asked about the average transcriptionist's salary, and what I read made me sick.
This person wrote a huge answer about what is to be an MT and how they get paid and such. This person is claiming essentially they type 2500 lines in 5 hours and can make anywhere between $30 and $70/hour. They have 2 jobs, one pays straight $25.00/hr, and last year they made $65,000 annual income.
I calculated this out (and if I'm right) if they type 2500 lines in 5 hours, they have to STRAIGHT type 500/lines an hour AND get paid 0.14/line.
Now, if there is a such person as this out there, you deserve a medal. On the other hand, I saw postings of people who commented on this answer who were thinking of making the big career switch (and these were pretty recent, last month), and thanking the poster for their informative answer. These people are going to be sadly diappointed when reality hits of what it is really like for an MT nowadays. People who post lies like that out there just to get people to go to MT schools or just for fun make me sick. People are going to change their whole lives not knowing the truth. I just hope those who posted those comments, did a little more reasearch and weren't blinded by the pot of gold at the end of that rainbow!
