This job makes me so tired - me

It doesn't matter that I get enough sleep. MT makes me tired, sitting at the computer for hours on end. Anyone experience this?

Yes, I am completely wiped out after doing MT all day, whether I get enough sleep or not. And people don't get it, they think, after all, we just "sit at a desk all day" UGH!!

Oh boy.. tired, worn out.. physically and mentally. What these docs dump on our brains is something quite destructive LOL. I have back pain, leg pain, and implants in my right wrist.. I would say this job can be a real health hazard.

and too tired for a social life during the week. Don't even want to talk on the phone, not to mention the aches, pains, etc. So, when I got word that WMX was taking over our hosp acct for even less pay and longer hours, I started making plans to get out, and these are coming to fruition over the next several weeks.

Here's what I do to fight that.... - Tiny

Make sure you are eating. I get tired out when I skip meals and drink too much coffee.

Take breaks and walk around. Get your blood flowing. Concentrate your eyes on something far away, this will help relax the muscles from the close up work your doing.

Stretch. I just did about 10 minutes of yoga stretches and I definitely feel more awake. A friend of mine, also an MT, she has an inversion table, it hangs you upside down, she does it a couple times a day for a few minutes and she says it does wonders for the muscles from sitting all day.

Take vitamins. Think positive thoughts. Keep thinking how your job really could be so much worse. There are people out there right now working in chicken plants cutting up chickens for a living. I saw a show about how their hands go numb and conditions are horrible.

Also, at least when we take a break from our job we can throw some dishes in the dishwasher or a load of laundry into the machine.

Me too, but a lot of the tiredness also comes from - DEPRESSION.

Having little to no control over our work, our work flow, our time, or our finances can do that to a person.

I have been doing this for decades. It's only been the last 2-3 years that I'm finding myself getting physically tired. I have started doing stretches in my chair every other report or so - just 1 or 2 mins. at a time. I bend from the waist to either side and stretch for 15 seconds, and I stretch my arms above my head - it's very invigorating and relaxes your neck and shoulder muscles. I also make sure to get up and walk into the kitchen or bathroom at least once an hour - keep the blood flowing in the legs.

Everytime I do this doctor's transcription (ironically he is a pulmonologist) he snorts phlegm in the back of his nose right into the microphone and will even cough from it sometimes because he does it so hard. Tonight during an 11 min. dictation by him, halfway through I had to get up and run to the bathroom because I was gagging. He did it 5 times in the first 5 min. of the job. I once reported a doc who uses voice recognition and apparently did her dictation on her lunch break WHIL ...

shouldn't be held responsible for what MQ says. If MQ doesn't want the responsibility for correct reports, they shouldn't make the deals, instead of making deals and then underpaying MTs and putting all the responsibility on them.
