Does your spouse or significant other consider your job to be a joke, especially now that we have seen so many changes in the industry? I feel that my husband views my job this way.

My family has always viewed my job as a joke or insignificant. My mom was ashamed of what I did for a living because the rest of our family is successful and went to college. Granted they had fathers who were engineers or real estate agents paying for their college where I came from a single parent home and paid my own way. Anyways, I made more than most of them who earned degrees at one point. Not now though. BUT...I'm on my way to getting a more respectable career anyway. For myself, not for anyone else.

Especially now that I make cra- for pay. In the good ole days of gross character lines and making over $40K a year part-time he thought it was a great profession. Now he keeps encouraging me to apply at Wal-Mart. It is so sad.........

People don't do this in the real working world. They are all grown up, unlike the company heads I've dealt with. why....nice comes to mind...tactful...professional...

my DH - thought it was all well and good

when I was making $20+ an hour, taking care of the house and the kids while he worked his unpredictable schedule in law enforcement.

Now fast forward about 10 years, and here I am working twice as hard for half the money, if that.

Very disillusioning.

That is how I get treated. I am here all the time so I have all the time in the world to do all the housework, take care of the kids, and make sure his supper is ready for him when he gets home.

How quickly they forget that when they were laid off, my nonexistent job paid all the bills.

I responded by letting him pay all the bills and I keep mine for spending money. LOL

Don't feel alone, my husband feels the same way. When I am online working, my family does not think twice about interrupting me wanting something. I dread when my kids get out of school in 4 short weeks, as it makes it really hard to be productive and thus make money. I hope I survive LOL You all have a great day tomorrow and hang in there!!

He's made comments about this not being a "real job", and has even forgotten that I have a job on a few occasions.

As far as letting TPTB take advantage of us, I have yet to figure out a way to NOT let them. The only way would be to quit the MT industry, which they wouldn't even notice because they'll just go to another country to get MTs.

as much as I do though. He also knows I work long hours for that money too, too long unfortunately. He is quite certain I could support us once he retires (if he gets his way in about 4 years after house/debts paid off), and I could but we'd have nothing extra....though we really don't have much extra now so wouldn't be that much of a change!

Okay, so halfway out of curiosity, I applied to my local hospital, which is a large regional hospital, for an MT job. They wanted a "seasoned" MT with CMT, who transcribes 250 lines an hour. I was wondering if anyone else felt the same way about the swapboard; that it is crap for a FT employee. It seems to serve the PT employees well though, because they can readily pick up more hours. Definitely going to start looking for a new job. I love my TL and really love what I do, but I have gone from being a 99.5 to 100% accurate to now cannot get above 98% thanks to all their 0.25 off for not having a semicolon instead of a comma, or leaving out the or an, so much for verbatim. I know it was just asked how they figure out their bonus, but I am concerned because I found recent posts that say the lines are "weighted", and their own ad says "quality based" incentive program. Clear Choice Transcription is clearly a joke. The only reputable person at the company is the recruiter. Once you're handed off to the trainer you're screwed. Training there could be taught by a 1st grader. They rush through training and expect you to catch on in 15 minutes. Most of my questions, even after hired were answered by the recruiter.
