TeletrakMT - WHAT A JOKE!!! - SickofMTing

Posted: Dec 20, 2013

You want the skill and knowledge of a certified MT, but you want to pay 7 cpl and NOTPAYFORSPACES!!!!  Plus you have to pay your own taxes as an IC and get your own health insurance, and never get a paid vacation or a paid holiday.  Where do I sign up??!?!?!  I'd go work at McDonald's first, at least I'd get a vacation and probably health insurance, and maybe even a free burger for lunch.

What's wrong with these companies????

AND they want a CMT - Thanks but no thanks

[ In Reply To ..]
I hope no one out there is desperate enough to have to take that.

TeletrakMT - nana

I wonder if this company cares? They know someone will take it. They need to get on and type those reports themselves for that kind of pay with no spaces. Where do they get off deciding what we have to do and what we will get paid for and not get paid for? We don't get paid for research, we don't get paid for spaces, we don't get paid to fill in demo screen, blah, blah, blah. And to add insult to injury they want you to be IC status. Now you will be working for around 3-1/2 cents per line, straight typing. Have fun with that. Walmart or McDonald's here I come.

I hope this company reads these posts too to see just how we feel about their post. Oh and greed comes to mind also.

Unfortunately - they're ALL a joke! - Depressed

[ In Reply To ..]
I've worked for 4 different companies from home and they're ALL bad. In the last 6 months I've gone from making 4.63 cents a line to 3 cents a line. If I were younger, I'd go to work at McDonald's.

MT's Unite - No more

[ In Reply To ..]
Let these companies post these ridiculous ads and please no one apply! I don't care how desperate your are. MTs have to stop taking their sloppy seconds! Go find another line of work. We sort of tongue in cheek say work at Walmart or McDonalds, but hey, we have skills and are very disciplined. Don't ever think working at home is easy. We can find something decent in an office or retail and feel like we have a real job that treats us like employees and not second rate workers. These companies can get away with what they do, because it was allowed and I say no more. New year, new job! Please MTs move on!

Aldi's cashiers make $11.15 an hour, shift mgrs - 15.50 an hour sm

[ In Reply To ..]
and I am seriously considering it. I only make 8.50 an hour at Nuance.
Aldi's - Just do it!
[ In Reply To ..]
Don't consider it, do it! I know the working at home thing may sound tempting and for many with children, no car, small town, etc., need to work at home, but there are other WAH jobs besides transcription and I would gladly (if I had to) take $8.50 taking flower orders, rather than work at Nuance or M*Modal. I think the straw that broke the camel's back for me was the NJA and they expected you to make up your time or take PTO or no pay at all and I was an employee? No way. This business is at a true crossing of the roads, and it is up to the MTs to make the change and cause these companies to crumble, but no one else will. Now, with that said, if you have decent MT job (like I do), then by no means cut off your nose to spite your face, but for the many of you who are belittled, betrayed, lied to, short changed, etc., "JUST DO IT." Besides, how can Nike be wrong? LOL
I've been a borg drone for so long I'm kind of afraid - I cant do anything else

Excuse = laziness. When you are miserable enough or - poor enough, you will do it. nm

Excuse = not just lazy, - but afraid
[ In Reply To ..]
I don't think it is really lazy; look how hard we all work, but it is the fear of what is out there, especially after being beaten down by these companies. I got out and it was horrible and it took a long time to land on my feet. I had no money, no benefits, nothing. Good thing my car was paid off, so I could go on interviews and finally things started to fall into place, but believe me, had I known what I was going to be up against, I might have stayed on as well. The thing is, MTs are not making a decent wage, don't even start to expect a good one any longer and are treated so poorly, what could be worse? If I would have known then, what I know now, I would have filed for UE and gone from there. Organize yourself, so you are thrown to the wolves like I did. Check out UE or food stamps or whatever it takes. Again, stop letting these companies get away with employee genocide!
Regarding excuse = laziness - Old and Tired MT
[ In Reply To ..]
It is not an excuse or laziness regarding leaving MT. I am over 70 years old and too old to start another "career". Nobody would hire me in the first place. With over 40+ years doing transcription, this is all I know how to do and I planned to keep doing it until I dropped dead at the keyboard. However, now it looks like I won't even be able to do that. I probably will starve to death first.
Golden Girl - Me Too
[ In Reply To ..]
I am in the same boat, but with that said, I still found a decent company and got away from the larger MTSO. I am sure you are getting SS benefits as do I and that helps; of course we are taxed if we work, but it is a nice buffer to have. There are exceptions to every rule and I too would not relish looking for another job at this point in my life, so I hang in there. I am just grateful I had a decent job with a somewhat decent company. I just have to manage my money and my time as I don't want to have my last act on this earth typing, I would rather being playing golf or least taking a nice brisk walk or riding my bike. It is truly a shame it has come to this and I do feel the younger "generation" of MTs need to make a stand and get out, because when they are our age, they won't be doing this; just like telephone operators when we were growing up. At one time, that was a good job too!
Old and Tired MT - Old Glenda - I am old, too
[ In Reply To ..]
and still at it. Like you, I am too old to train for another career. May I share just a thought? I never put negative thoughts out there. I believe that if you "name it, you claim it." Perhaps others feel differently, but I do believe we can affect our own reality by how we think.

where have you been? ALL IC jobs come without tax deductions, - no insurance or paid vacations. SM

[ In Reply To ..]
Granted 7 cpl w/o spaces and the CMT requirment is a bit gutzy, and a deal-breaker right there, but all the rest of your complains are normal for an IC position and no surprise.

And the MT schools keep cranking out newbies - Maggie May

[ In Reply To ..]
who are desperate for work who will grab these positions to "get their foot in the door." The schools don't tell them that's all they're going to get until they finally wise up and get their foot OUT of the door. :(

Don't be ignorant now with 'excuse' and 'lazy' - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
Many of us who were founders of this 'career' paved the way for everyone else, yet many of us our health as suffered also. Sitting and typing as we know now, is bad on the body. We got not physical exercise, only mental. You have to shove food in fast and keep typing. Many of us are prone to diabetes and we know how it affects the eyes, the circulation, and the heart. So, watch how you assume, please. We are abused and should not be by our own just because they have not done the job for 50 years and now have to wonder what we can do. My neighbor committed suicide at 50 because he lost his job.

What does this have to do with Maggie Mays post??? - nm

No excuse - Fit MT

[ In Reply To ..]
If you abused your body like that for the sake of this line of work, then you were a fool! I used to work 8 hours in the evening at a hospital and during the day, I would job, do aerobics, ride my bike, etc. When I transitioned to home, I took up tennis. I am almost 70 and play tennis, walk, ride my bike. I do my job and am done with it, just like in an office and make good use of my free time. I have taken something to eat to my computer when I work and some days, don't get out of my pajamas, but not all the time. Life is balance, no matter what you do. I have a feeling that people are prone to either keep moving or not. Also, I needed the exercise for my head. If I truly needed mental stimulation, I would have one to medical school or law school.

It's interesting, MT schools are closing. - me

I was at the AHDI web site the other day, and about half of their approved schools were not accepting new students. I don't know if that's because people have become aware it's a dying field and people just aren't enrolling any more, or if the schools themselves have made that decision.

Now if we could just - Berkeley gal

get people to not get sucked into AHDI, we might have a fighting chance.

If a school is not accepting students - they made the decision. nm

Feb 16, 2010

I received an email the other day and it read "I was wondering if you would be interested in typing for a neurosurgeon" with a copy of my resume posted on the bottom.  My reply back was "I would need the specifics, the company you are affiliated with, etc - I do have 17 plus years experience with neurology so it is probably something I would be interested in, but send more info, and then I will forward my phone number if necessary."  The reply back from the unknown sender was "I have m ...

7.6 is the BIGGEST JOKE they could play on us.  The ONLY good thing is the age.  Otherwise, they took away valuable info from us to help us find names or patients that the doctors with thick accents don't slow down and speak clearly for us to hear.  Plus, the dictionary?  Another big joke.  But keep up your line counts, keep up on your 99,000 POD client list, and definitely your quality! Hospital Pay--is This A JOKE?
Dec 30, 2009

Okay, so halfway out of curiosity, I applied to my local hospital, which is a large regional hospital, for an MT job.  They wanted a "seasoned" MT with CMT, who transcribes 250 lines an hour.  Okay, I thought, they might actually compensate better than I think since they have well-defined high standards.  WRONG!  They are offering $11.35 AN HOUR!  What a slap in the face!  You get a whole extra dollar if you work 2nd shift.  What an insult--they just have ...

Swapboard - What A Joke

I was wondering if anyone else felt the same way about the swapboard; that it is crap for a FT employee.  It seems to serve the PT employees well though, because they can readily pick up more hours. I wanted to swap a shift for Saturday hours.  There was a shift the exact amount of time I needed on the Sunday prior, so I thought it would be perfect.  I was wrong.  CCM said that we are responsible for our shift, and that we are not approved OT, (meaning that I cannot take tha ...

Voice Recognition "editing Software" Is A Joke
