Keep US Healthcare information jobs in US! - Doubtful MT

Posted: Jun 14, 2010

See for yourself:   http://www.philstar.com/Article.aspx?articleId=555879&publicationSubCategoryId=71   Offshore medical transcription companies who are probably losing clients because of the US recession are 'fooling' themselves (and others) by saying they can expand their businesses because of the Healthcare Reform and the need for more health information exchange.  This is very upsetting!

MT group to provide more training programs
(The Philippine Star) Updated March 08, 2010 12:00 AM

MANILA, Philippines - The Medical Transcription Industry Association of the Philippines Inc. (MTIAPI) recently concluded its first short but intensive course in Basic Medical Coding and Billing held at the Philippine Trade Training Center.

The training was a result of collaborative efforts by the MTIAPI, CITEM-DTI and Media Focus.

âThe Medical Coding and Billing Training is only the first of MTIAPIâs series of seminars and workshops in order to beef up the Philippinesâ new generation of workforce that is now expanding into servicing the entire health information management sector,â said Myla Rose Mundo-Reyes, MTIAPI president.

Various medical careers relating to health information management are opening new avenues of challenging career growth and great earning potentials.

Reyes said that with the increasing demand in US health care documentation, the MTIAPI is now looking at opening these opportunities to provide employment to thousands of displaced medical and nursing graduates in the Philippines.

Reyes said, âThereâs a huge opportunity for the Philippines to carve out a substantial share of outsourced services in the US health care documentation sector such as medical transcription, coding, billing, patient education, electronic health record, digital archiving, medical claims recovery and management and so much more.â

Participants were highly satisfied with the conduct of the training and requested for more sessions similar to this.

âThis seminar was an eye-opener to possible business opportunities in the medical billing and coding industry,â said Aileen Ced of the Medserve Healthcare Services Corp.

The MTIAPI will also offer retooling programs to raise the level of competitiveness of medical transcriptionists in the country through continuing education, certification and speech recognition editing training.

These programs will be offered to medical transcription companies and schools, as well as to independent or home-based MT practitioners.

For more information on the succeeding activities and programs of MTIAPI for the year, visit www.mtiapi.com or e-mail at info@mtiapi.com.

AMERICAN DICTATION SHOULD STAY IN AMERICA!!!! - old mt

My question. Which of the big companies over here are helping them!!!!!???????????? This is such a bunch of C***. What an insult to us all.. AMERICAN DICTATION SHOULD STAY IN AMERICA!!!!

Its also why, even if i get out of MT, Im not going to - bother with learning billing or coding.

Until the "Black Greed Hole" in American business if plugged, I really don't see much hope for this country in all work sectors, not just ours.

I wonder which of the schools are teaching people overseas to take our jobs? - Wondering

I think M-Tec and Andrews enroll students only from the US and Canada - not overseas - See message

Unless I'm mistaken or their policy has changed, both M-Tec and Andrews may only be available to students in the United States and Canada. I don't know about the others.
No MT schools accepts students who LIVE abroad - sm

one has to be a US citizen or a permanent resident in the US to be accepted into a US MT school.
I'm not sure about that. Why do you believe that to be true? - Wondering

Not quite true... - anonymous

While CS, M-Tech, and Andrews won't allow students not in the US to take their programs, TRSi actually has established schools in other countries and are training them in transcription and ASR..and their rates are much lower than ours...not quite as low as India's, though.

I believe they have a MT school and a coding school located over there. No surprise when they sell their program to any institution that wants it.

Just Another Vent About Jobs, No Jobs, Requirement Of Jobs, Etc.
Aug 18, 2010

It is insulting to all of us with the way that MT pay has gone down the drain, it is frustrating and aggravating to look for a "decent" job these days, trying to work out which companies will treat you fairly, which ones lie about their platforms, work, etc., and not only do these companies not want to pay us what we are worth but now I see that MANY companies are requiring the MT to have or "be willing" to purchase hundreds of dollars worth of equipment.  If an employer can PROMISE IN ...

Healthcare Employment
Jan 16, 2011

Has anyone else answered ads for them.  You do a really EASY test. They offer to train you for free..  then send you emails... basically to schedule a job interview.  You text them.  They send you this agreement, which says that in order to work for them you need to plunk out $450 to buy their software.. This does not quite seem on the level to me.. I have been working in this industry going on 20 years.  I work in house right now..  but job situation is precariou ...

Changing To Something Besides Healthcare
May 20, 2012

Well, I've done it -- I've changed to something else for work other than anything in healthcare. I was an MT for many years, and I can't see any future for decent earnings, benefits or growth unless a person wants to be in direct patient care -- if they can even break into it after all of the hard work to earn another degree. I do have a university degree and changed to a job that pertains to that degree. I have seen many organizations go to Epic, which is an excellent system by t ...
