I really don't think it's just to continuously hire MTs - sm

as employees, yet the MTs are still on production instead of hourly, and the new hires never get any work to do. If they do get any work, it's not enough to live on. They want you to sit there until they have enough "extra" for you to do??

How is that right? There must be some kind of fraud or something legally that I don't know about that can take these companies to task for doing this to people. I'm tired of being treated this way, starving all the way to the poor house after being HIRED as an EMPLOYEE to do a JOB. Come on. There's got to be something legally out there that can be done.

Each workday an employee is required to report to work, but is not put to work or is furnished with less than half of his or her usual or scheduled day's work, he or she must be paid for half the usual or scheduled day's work, but in no event for less than two hours nor more than four hours, at his or her regular rate of pay.
If an employee is required to report to work a second time in any one workday and is furnished less than two hours of work on the second reporting, he or she must be paid for two hours at his or her regular rate of pay.

This is from 2011, so maybe some more states do have the provision now, but I can't find that mine does.

"A wage obligation may exist under a state reporting time pay law or a wage agreement, discussed further below. The good news for employers is that the vast majority of states do not have reporting time pay laws. The jurisdictions that do have reporting time pay laws are California, Connecticut, the District of Columbia, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Oregon (minors only) and Rhode Island."

California is the ONLY state that has that. - We were just discussing this on the MM board.

That MM and other companies are likely trying to get rid of CA employees because of this. Since NJA is a common issue, they surely don't want to pay people half a day @ min. wage.

Yeah, I'm a CA MT & my co. is trying to push - me out. Others wont hire me.

Just a question for everyone. I accepted a position and was to hear by the end of this week from my manager about doing some training on Tuesday of next week and have not heard one word. part-timers for weekend work anymore? That's the way it was done for years, full-timers for M-F and part-timers for weekends, and it worked great because so many MTs are looking for extra weekend part-time work anyway. I've had a job offer with a transcription company..however, my problem is I'm required to have MS Word, version 2007 or 2010,,,no student/teacher/starter or trial editions....and I've gone to Best Buy, E Bay and Amazon. I know this is an extreme long-shot, but I'm wondering if there are any good MT companies out there that hire M-F and pay a fair line rate (for the way things are today anyway). I thought maybe I was doomed to the lot of those who want to hire ICs to work as employees with set hours and all sorts of other restrictions but finally I am actually working as an IC with 24-hour turnaround time with both companies. I was hired into a company last week. Now, I am asked to be trained without signing any new employee paperwork and to get started immediately. I was told my paperwork would come via email and I should sign and send it back, but I have yet to receive anything,but I am being pushed to start transcribing reports.
