From MModal to Softscript - any info?? - Anon

Just recently offered a position at SS. I was just going through the archives to see if there was any info on this company, but everything seems pretty old on here. Anyone working for them now that could give some advice? Good company/bad company? I read where communication is non-existant, but if that is the worst of it.. I can handle that. I have worked for M*Modal....so that is pretty much the bottom of the barrel! SS has GOT to be better than them!

I've never worked there, but as has been said on these boards, if you find a good one, it won't last for long. You have to decide if you want to keep chasing MT companies.

Since you obviously browse here, you know that MM and N are buying up the "nicer" places. Note I have "nice" in quotation marks.

I would have to agree you can't get any worse than M or N, so I guess you have nothing to lose, providing you don't mind going through the stress of switching platforms (if that's the case) and things like that.

For me, SoftScript's platform was outdated, slow and cumbersome. Although the MT program was a Word based platform and I did like that part, once you finally got into the actual typing screen. I also worked for a company that used M-Modal's platform and that one was a much better platform to work on.

My other main complaint about SoftScript was that I was always running out of work. But, that was just my experience and you may have a better experience than I did.

Depends on the platform. I worked for them for almost a year very happily. They were straight typing though. I left for an editing position. Liked them better than most though.

Why oh why can't people put: To: blah, blah, before typing. It's confusing. They repeat the person's everything, and we think it's the OP.

I worked for SoftScript briefly (about 6 weeks). I also thought the platform was outdated, but not horrible, easy enough to use. I was required to work Saturdays and every single Saturday I ran out of work after 1-2 hours. I gave them that reason for quitting (OOW every single Saturday). They did not address it, only told me "If you don't give notice, you cannot be rehired." Didn't seem to care that I was leaving or my reason why.

Thanks for the input. I really have no option at the moment but to accept the position unless something better comes along (in the outside real working world). I've been in the MT business for 28 years, and I have been through the good, bad, and the ugly. I despise VR and am thrilled to be back to normal transcribing. I have worked for quite a few companies over the years, and I have to say MM is the WORST!! They were sneaky when they were MedQuist, and just as bad now. I'd rather shovel dog-doo than work for them ever again!

Agree with others. Platform slow, outdated, frequent downtime for me, and THE rudest tech support I have ever experienced. If you look at mtjobs.com, they post ads literally every day. To me, that's a huge red flag.

Is anyone current working at Softscript that can tell me if they are a good company to work for? I have had enough with Nuance. If most of you haven't figured it out yet, we US employees are only working for Nuance to do their cleanup. The reason work is so slow is because of Dragon and India's cherrypicking.
