For acute care MTSO people: What's the work like - on Saturdays compared to weekdays?

I currently am comfortable working swing shift during the week and selldom run out of work. , but my boss would like to move me to days, including Saturday (and perhaps Sunday), and was wondering if my line counts would be as good. (I currently seldom run out of work due to my time zone and do a fair amount of ops.)

I imagine OPs would drop? Increase in ER to make up, or? Run out of work more? End of pay period problems? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

the risk the change would not benefit you? If it aint broke, dont fix it.

I would not switch a schedule you are comfortable on. For sure you would get less ops and you would likely get different dictators than you are used to.

Also, no way would I ever give up BOTH weekend days, unless your husband has the same schedule.

But, we are empty-nesters, our kids busiest with friends - on weekends, DH retired... :) nm

I don't think anyone here can answer your question of whether you will have the same work flow. I know that my MTSO asks for OT constantly for weekend coverage, so it would seem weekends have plenty of work.

I worked weekends for years...almost never - FBL

ran out of work. I did it mainly for the shift differential.

Lots of admission H&Ps, ER reports, and the like. Also get a lot of discharge summaries in the morning hours. Not a lot of op notes. Will sometimes have a few docs who dictate clinic notes or op notes from home on the weekends.

I liked it, and it sounds as if my situation is similar to yours. I liked being off in the middle of the week, to do the shopping and doc appointments without crowds or heavy traffic to deal with. Good Luck!

As a relative newbie MT, I'm not certain what "acute care" means. Does it mean basically all reports that are from doctors in the hospital setting? That is, would any hospital operative note, hospital progress note, and all discharge summaries be considered "acute care"? I know a clinic note is basically a note by an outpatient doctor, right? And it's basically about more minor medical problems albeit could be chronic rather than "acute." ...

I would love to know how you get acute care experience when no one will give you the opportunity without it. I am good at what I do and work hard. I am very frustrated because my current job went to voice recognition (which I am sure everyone is on that boat with me). Does anyone know why Accentus Acute Care seems to always have the same job ad hiring for acute care MTs that pays a sign-on bonus? I've been in transcription since 1998, doing clinic work for about 13 of those, then moving to acute care consisting of H&P, consults, and discharge summaries....but not op notes. I see so many jobs for acute care work, but they only want people who've done all four. My question is, how do you go about learning to do op notes in order to obtain one of those jobs?
