What is acute care experience? Do you work for the hospital?
I am sooo green to MT! Appreciate advice about this.
Still waiting to start the AIM MT internship. Anyone done it?

It is ER, H and P, cons, Discharge summary, and some operative reports. You can work for a hospital but if you work for a national service, they have the contract with the hospital and you work through the service.

If you have training, most places asking for 2 years experience and seems to me you would be making less pay than you do now. Is this what you want to do?

medical transcription training. Most companies want that kind of training, very different from just dental alone.

Medical transcription training and even participation in an internship program are not classified as having experience. Only having a job is counted as experience.

you have to finish formal training. What kind of training, will McDonald's training get it? These are confusing posts.

in order to be in their mentoring program. I did not think just any old job would do. You can get mentored upon completion of a school for transcription, not just enroll if you have no training.

Do you have to have training before you start this, what kind of internship would you do, is it a school where they teach this profession.

You have to have finished formal training in order to apply. Since it's so hard to get work right after school aim provides an internship where you work for free until you reach 98% accuracy and then they start paying you or you can look for a different job

Have you finished formal training in MT work? I would think you would know what acute care is if you had.

I am really curious about this internship thing. I did a bit of research and it appeared that they charge a $99 "one time registration fee" and then the "interns" work 3-4 months absolutely free. Does anyone know exactly how this works? It sounds like that is a way for at least some MTSOs to get their work done for free. I have thought for some time that the way the MT industry is headed soon MTs would have to pay for the privilege of working rather than them being paid. Has anyone ever been hired by a company after completing an internship?

Getting Acute Care Experience May 26, 2010I have been an MT for 11 years and am wanting to expand my knowledge base beyond the realm of radiology. I have been applying for acute care positions but I am not even given the opportunity to test most of the time because I don't have any acute care experience. Experienced, But No Acute Care Experience Apr 03, 2011Hi All,
I have been a transcriptionist for 10 years, working both in-house and home (currently doing both), but the company I currently work for is going to EMR (and of course, I'm the one setting it up for them) and will be out of a job within the coming months.
I have applied and taken tests for various companies and have also had phone interviews over the last year. Unfortunately I am not offered a position due to "not having enough experience" in the acute care field. Corr ...
Acute Care Transcription - Does Anyone Have Experience? Jan 17, 2012I have been transcribing for 30 years mostly orthopedics. I want very much to do acute care transcription. Does anyone think I have a chance to get into it? I feel as though I am at a dead end if I don't do something different to further my career. I feel very qualified to do it. I took a good course from AHDI with cardiology, gastroenterology, orthopedics, and surgeries through Oak Horisons. This was a very well-rounded course and covered everything involved. Acute Care? Sep 23, 2014As a relative newbie MT, I'm not certain what "acute care" means. Does it mean basically all reports that are from doctors in the hospital setting? That is, would any hospital operative note, hospital progress note, and all discharge summaries be considered "acute care"?
I know a clinic note is basically a note by an outpatient doctor, right? And it's basically about more minor medical problems albeit could be chronic rather than "acute." ...
