no one inhouse or outhouse pays for filling in demographics and it is quite plainly wrong when paid on a production basis - at least in America. We are not indentured servants but are heading there - if not already there - by working without being paid for all characters transcribed including demographics. The MTSOs just don't want to expend the money or effort to adjust the technology to count everything they have promised to pay.
There is a new book out that will give much needed historical perspective on who got us where we are in America and how they did it. Advice: Read it before the election if you care to make an enlightened vote. Listen to the author talk. He recently made the Sunday morning talk show rounds. Look him and the Sunday morning shows up. Name is Hedrick Smith. Book is Who Stole the American Dream.
Remember that there is - or was - a stark difference between inhouse and outsourced positions and that is inhouse you start off at a much higher rate and often with benefits that are above and beyond those of outsourced benefits offered. Think about that and think about it hard in the context of not being paid for absolutely all of the work you do.
Not so much vindicative as very clear on right from wrong AND willing to stand up against wrong and fight for right.
I guarantee you that if you think it is hard now with the way things are - it will get even harder if the companies engaging in illegal behavior are allowed to proliferate further.
I understand your fear and it is valid. Remember you can stand up for better conditions for the "other people" you mention in your post above instead of fearing they will lose their jobs. Your concern is valid. Read up on how events at bainport.com have come to where they are. You can start networking with this effort to ensure you don't find yourself at the Bainport of Medical Transcription. Can it get worse - yes - and it usually does before it gets better. Ask the people at the Bainport camp. They were interviewed on TV recently. Do you stand with them or simply fear being in their situation yourself while sitting on your couch?
The choice is yours - worse, worse, worse indefinitely or worse now, possibly worse to stand up for following the law and then better because you joined this effort and helped to make it succeed.
Have a good day.
