How much time do you spend on demographics? - Rose

Posted: Apr 30, 2014

I have an account where the doctors never enter demographics. I'm spending 5 minutes on each report filling in demographics and cc's from doctors who only slur a last name.  Many partial doctor names need to be Googled.  If I do about 36 reports a day at 5 minutes each with demographic research then I'm spending 3 hours of my shift working for nothing!   How is it for the rest of you?

No offense, but I feel like you are exaggerating a tad when you say it takes you 5 minutes...it probably feels like 5 minutes but is more like 2.

Anyway, some of the docs on my account are awesome and I never have to enter anything other than the date seen and whatever cc's they have, which takes a few seconds. Others aren't so good (hey doc, if you can't pronounce a name at all, you might want to try spelling it!!!) and they take longer, but nowhere near 5 minutes.

I'd say I spend much less than an hour a day (probably 20-30 min at most)entering demographic info.

I don't do it anymore - 55

I don't google MD names anymore...I used to, now I send for review. If I cannot find the name quickly in the cc list, I am not spending the time.

I do have to spent time changing the NP who enters her name to the MD who she is dictating for then add her name under dictated by in the document---over and over and over and over...

And one MD who strings reports together over and over and over and I have complained about it, but it still happens...guess what? If I cannot find the 2nd, 3rd and 4th, etc. patients in that file quickly, or he does not spell them, they are going to review under no name.

Yes, it takes me about that long too - Depressed

The docs put in NO demographics, then can't pronounce the patient name close enough to find it quickly and don't spell it. Then they send a cc to "Dr. Smith" with no first name.

Docs who slur through the names on a new account doctors they want CC's to, referring and participating physician's names without spelling, leaving us to search database lists and Google MD names do take 5 minutes per report. When you have to do it with ALL reports it does add up.

How Much Time Do You Spend Reading Email?
Jun 24, 2015

My QC sends out these extremely wordy emails several times a week.  I end up skimming them, for a couple reasons.  One, because I work on so many different accounts/hospital sites that I'm truly never going to retain any of the information anyway. Second, and most importantly, I DON'T GET PAID TO READ THEM! This can't be legal and has been bugging me forever.  Do they seriously think we get paid enough per line to "compensate" reading email?? What do you all do? ...

Spending More Time Fixing Demographics Than Transcribing
Jul 14, 2010

I signed up for college this fall to get a HIT degree and hopefully get out of transcription. Seems I spend so much time looking up incorrect demographics, patient account numbers, etc., due to dictors entering the wrong information, and with the company I work for, it counts against us, YET we dont get paid to lookup demographics and fix errors, but its our responsbility. I am finding this so frustrating and spending 9 hours a day to make barely 90 bucks. ...

Exactly - Agreed Posted: Oct 2nd, 2012 - 10:39 pm In Reply to: FYI - Anonymousno one inhouse or outhouse pays for filling in demographics and it is quite plainly wrong when paid on a production basis - at least in America. We are not indentured servants but are heading there - if not already there - by working without being paid for all characters transcribed including demographics. Sloooowww MQ Mail, SLOOOWW Demographics.
Feb 25, 2010

It must be just me.  My CTL just informed me that she wasn't aware that our e-mail was so slow.  It takes me almost 10 minutes just to read my first e-mail of the day.  She wants us to check our e-mail three times daily.  That would be 30 minutes of my own "free time."  Personally, I prefer not to waste my transcription time as it counts against me when I do in my average hourly PTO which is fast dwindling to minimum wage (used to be $18/h).  Now I read on this ...

Overtime Because Of The Time Clock Time Zone Change?
Feb 06, 2011

It has been inconvenient, and maybe a bit confusing at times, to check my time card hours for my shift as, because of my time zone, part of my hours show up on the next day because I work 2nd shift. I wonder if I will get overtime for yesterday, even though I did not work overtime. I had to start work several hours early because of maintenance, so all hours were completed before the hour my hours start showing up on the next day. Fine. But the last couple hours of yesterday show up as today, ...

MQ Rehire Policy For Part Time To Full Time
Apr 09, 2011

I worked for MQ full time and then went to part time last year, before finally quitting altogether because of health problems.
