Have you ever transcribed conference calls, and if so, how does it compare with medical trancription in terms of income, time consumption, etc.? Any information would be helpful. Thank you in advance.

I did it occasionally for a private company, part of their non-medical transcription department. I got paid hourly for that work, so I can't speak to the profitability, but it was not difficult work. Hardest part was learning the industry lingo (this was for the airline industry -- that's about all I can say) If it is medical, then that won't be a problem, and some of your shortcuts will work, as opposed to my situation. I found it extremely profitable and interesting, for a change. Hope you are good at recognizing voices, because people don't always identify themselves.

I don't know that I could transcribe it live. I'd want to be able to back up.

I'm self-employed and had somebody call up inquiring about if I could do this or not. I have only done straight medical transcription. So, I was not really sure if it would be worth doing and I wasn't quite sure what to charge. Thank you to all who responded.

I do conference calls periodically. If it's just a few speakers and you're good at recognizing voices, it might be profitable. I find it very difficult most of the time. I have had conference with ten people plus and to me it's not worth the effort. Every time I take one I think why on earth do I put up with this. It take a lot longer than normal medical transcription work and it's usually verbatim. In any event, it might be something you love and you'll make a lot of money doing it. Just make sure you're getting a good hourly audio rate.

Thank you for your reply. I was thinking it would be more trouble than it was worth. I'm already busier than I would like to be. They had unrealistic expectations. No schedule, a couple times a month, 1 hour of conference call, unknown # of speakers, and they wanted it in 2-3 hours TAT. They could send it to me at 5:00 am. Need it by 8:00 am. I work nights. So, I declined. It sounded like a headache. I usually go with my gut. It sounded like I would be cursing myself for taking it. Thank you very much for your time and sharing your experience.

This is to all the people that get ticked off when MQ calls them to work. I WOULD KILL FOR A CALL TO WORK AT ANY TIME OF THE DAY OR NIGHT. Has anyone else been getting strange recorded phone calls from M*Modal telling you to test for them? I keep ignoring them and yet they keep calling. I haven't tested for them in years and wouldn't work for them if they were the last MTSO left on earth. So, we're scheduled for an upcoming conference call and have to be clocked off but will get paid forour time. So . . . do we get paid that ridiculously low PTO time that obviously is getting lowered for practically all of us every 6 months? Does anyone find it strange that 99% of us have had our PTO pay cut soooo much over the years? So if you disagree with a QA score done within the last week of the quarter, you are out of luck. So even if they are wrong you lose your QA bonus for 3 months.
