MD2MD calls?? - Hiya07

Posted: Oct 08, 2013

Anybody get callback from MD2MD; and if so, had they already called your references? Anybody have any info on them; theyr'e out of California?

I wanted to apply - for that position, but

They specifically said no Windows 7, and no Office 2010, and I have both! otherwise it would have been perfect fit for me, if they pay decently and do not have pooled accounts. I think it is a shame that those of us who keep up with the newer technology often get left out of some jobs. They should keep up with the times too!

I worked very happily for MD2MD for over 3 years recently..sm - Cynnamon

and wish I could go back (they do not re-hire former employees, no matter for what reason). I was so happy there, but then my mom was dying in a nursing home and I could not take the stress of staying with her every day and helping care for her (long ride) and work full time, either. Here is what I can tell you, though:

You would be very happy. Yes they want Windows XP and older versions of MS word, that is what works with their system, but the system they have (MedRite XL and Crescendo) is a fabulous system, VERY easy to use, everything at your fingertips. The owners are warm and very lovely and fair, they are always helpful and always listen, give you TONS of samples of ALL their doctors (they used to do the Palo Alto accounts, accounts on the Monterey Penninsula, large hospital accounts and a few great groups, everything involved, they even did sports teams! You are a true IC, pick you times of work and they let you work---they have dedicated work queues, which means of they put you on a certain hospital, that is your main account, but you do have several back-ups, you get to know the doctors quickly.

They pay 8CENTS FOR A GROSS LINE, which means it is not 65 character, every single line counts as a full line, even if there is just one word, pay for spaces and returns.

I wish I could beg for my job back, the best position at home that I have ever had!! Cheryl (MTSO) DOES take her time carefully and DOES check references, she only wants to hire the best, but she is a wonderful woman, and wish I was working for her again. Hope this helps.

I wasn't offered anywhere near that rate for an EditScript account there. - it was less than I was making at Nuance. nm

And THAT is what sets MD2MD apart....sm - Cynnamon
[ In Reply To ..]
Cheryl is very thorough about checking references and prior experience, and also prefers at least 10 years recent acute care. For that experience level, and for all good references and job reports, they are happy to pay an MT what they are worth, and pay increases and incentives are available. I think that was the end of the "good ole days" when we could work hard for a company, and be respected and paid what we are worth.
I believe you misunderstood me. MD2MD offered me less than what I was already making at Nuance - at the time.
[ In Reply To ..]

Unless you're implying something about my references and my "worth"?

That was in this past year, and I have nearly 20 years' experience.  Maybe I'm just misunderstanding you.

Well, you know, that makes sense then...sm - Cynnamon
[ In Reply To ..]
No, I was in no way implying anything about your credentials in any way, sorry if it came off like that---During my tenure there (2007-2010), THAT is what they were paying, and more. But now it makes sense to me why they will not re-hire MTs that were proven and left with good intentions--from the past. It may be a way to downgrade the pay for new MTs, the older MTs would never be happy working for less. What a shame, the almighty dollar wins out again? Sorry about your experience, but mine WAS totally great.
I saw their ad and she still says she pays 8 cents per gross line. sm - COMT

Although I have Office 2003, I have Windows 8 on my desktop and Windows 7 on my laptops, so *poof* there went my chance. From what you posted, sounds like I missed out on a great opportunity. :(
Apparently big differences between the pay rates for different platforms, then. - sm
[ In Reply To ..]

When I told my current employer that what they were offering was too low because it was lower than what I was already making elsewhere at that time, they went above matching it.

I really didn't like her overall tone anyway.  She thought it was "weird" when I requested nonconsecutive days off (like Thursday and Sunday, for example; helps me recuperate better).  Not a requirement, just a request, but it is the way I've been working for the past approximately 10 years and never been a problem for anybody else.

That's okay, I'm sure it all worked out for the best for everybody involved.  It certainly did for me (dodged a bullet, I think).

Apparently, according to COMT's post, that's not the reason. - sm

At least on the platform/s you were talking about.  I think that's a rather strange policy, frankly, but after my encounter there, it doesn't surprise me.  Sorry about your experience, if you truly wished to be hired back where you were once supposedly a valued employee.

My mother was dying and wanted her daughters....sm - Cynnamon

around her, she knew the end was approaching. It was very stressful, with three kids, a husband, and working full time, to trek 40 minutes each way, at least all through the week, I was falling apart, and I called and let them know what was happening and asked for about 4 weeks off or so in order to take care of her; I would return right after the funeral. Well, no can do, I was told, so I had to resign from the position, my mother came first. When I tried to return back in late 2010, I was told that there were no openings. And that's how it goes.
Wow, that is NOT a good company to work for. - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
I feel bad that they treated you that badly, but can't believe you'd think it's a good company to recommend. Wow. Obviously, they don't value or appreciate their employees.

Not to stir the pot, but how wonderful can someone be who would refuse to rehire someone who left to care for their mom in a nursing home? I would hire you back in a New York minute if that was the reason you quit. Now, if employees do not show up, or do a crummy job, that is a whole different story. But we are NOT machines, we do have lives and significant others we care about, and I think having a heart is just as important as having good business skills.
Sadly, Old Pro, I did not quit.... - Cynnamon
[ In Reply To ..]
I asked (practically begged) for approximately 4 weeks off, without pay of course, to take care of her, the end was extremely near, according to her doctors, but I was told that the work was there, it had to be done, and I had to resign the position. But I still say, while there and working hard, I had a great job, great dictators, great system, great efficiency, greatly diverse reports and specialties, and the pay WAS great....can't have everything, I suppose. :'(
Cynnamon - isn't that what FMLA is? Can u say - wrongful termination?

I am so sorry for your loss. I think the way you were treated by these people is reprehensible. They may have a good system, high efficiency, etc. etc., but they do not have hearts.

Glad to hear you liked them so much. I think they have an ad on MTJobs.com. Maybe I'll apply!

Do they provide equipment?

8 cents per gross line would be a pay raise for me.

I'm currently using Crescendo MedRite-XL, but the boss is a bully and real PITA.

Thanks for the information!

I would be cautious. Any company that does not have up to date software scares me. I mean, come ON, is it a business or isn't it? I'm just a poor student and I have both Windows 7 and Office 2010.

what a c**p comment - SM

Companies don't change their entire workings nor those of their clients every time Microsoft changes. The man-hours alone in altering these programs would be monumental.

If you want to work MT (but we know you don̢۪t that you are working at working as an attorney) then you realize MT companies don't change their software programs at the drop of a hat.
True but... - justapassinthrough

The thing which was trying to be conveyed here was the fact that it is now 2013. Windows XP as of next year, will no longer be supported. Many computers that use XP as an operating system are old and probably on their last legs. I had to replace my XP computers 2 years ago and got a computer at that time with Windows 7 on it. I'm sorry, but I have to tend to agree with "Nick" on this one. It is now 2013 and to my recollection, Medrite-XL did work on 7, but it was a clunky platform overall. The good thing for the MTSO to do would be to talk to the hospital and see if there were other, more up-to-date platforms that would work for the newer computers, those that run either Windows 7 or Windows 8.

Ah, someone who can think and reason intelligently. Thank you! As for me, I would not want XP if only for the reason that in less than 90 days it will not be supported.

Companies stay current if they want to be profitable and remain competitive in the workplace. As to attacking me for going to law school, that is what we in law school call a "straw man" argument. You could look it up.

No companies do not just change their software "at the drop of a hat;" however, the Microsoft XP hat has been dropping for many years. People have been told by Microsoft, it has been in the news both on television and printed that XP will no longer be supported.

Yes, the MTSOs need to "get with it," considering that Microsoft has now come out with three operating systems since XP. Most of the software programs that I used with XP also work with Windows 7 with a little tweaking. Really too, the MTSOs are not to blame. It is the developers of the software programs that are used who need to keep up with the latest technology regarding operating systems and in turn, it is also the hospital's responsibility to keep up with changes in technology. If the hospital is using a platform that is only compatible with XP, in the long run, they will lose money because XP computers have become very scarce.

If you were in the market for a new computer, I don't think you'd be rushing out and trying to find one with XP on it. Even computers with Windows 7 are tough to come by, but I was also lucky in the fact that when I purchased my computer, it had Windows 7 Home Premium on it and Microsoft (because I had problems with the warranty through Wal-Mart as well as not be able to download updates), graciously updated it to Windows 7 Professional at no cost.

The last thing that I wanted to mention was your "snippy" attitude towards Nick. I believe he/she was a former MT, who knew this profession was going down the tubes and decided to do something better with their life. I detected a bit of bitterness in your post that you have decided to stay in MT, which you are finding out as a career, is dying rapidly or changing in ways, where it will eventfually make people like you and I obsolete.
boy you assume a lot! - LMAO

Does Anyone Here Remember The Conference Calls
Oct 26, 2010

Does anyone remember the conference calls we had when transitioning to Transcend from MDI-MD regarding our line rates?  I can remember quite a few people being upset that after being told our rates would not change, many had their line rates cut.  And I specifically remember them saying that once our account went to VR, we would be getting 50% of our transcription rate.  Does anyone else remember this as well? Either I'm losing my memory or someone is playing games because o ...

Getting Calls From Medquist At All Hours
Nov 09, 2010

This is to all the people that get ticked off when MQ calls them to work.  I WOULD KILL FOR A CALL TO WORK AT ANY TIME OF THE DAY OR NIGHT.  I have always said I am available 24/7, but with the "new and not improved" MQ there is really no one to tell that to, no one who truly cares -- about the client or the employee.  How wonderful it would be to feel needed again.  With so many of us vying over so few reports, the only feeling I get from them is "just quit, just quit, ...
