So, if one is looking for a different MTSO employer, what's the competition like? Is CMT pretty much a given now? I mean, do I have to find the funds to pay for that and get the title just to be part of the competition? NEED ADVISE PLEASE

They say it isn't required, but it seems that it is. I am not sure what the rate is if you have it but there seems to be more and more MTSO only willing to look at you if you have those letters.

That's what I figured -- my company is encouraging everyone to get the credentials. Can't say in public what I really think. Thanks for your reply

Because it's FINALLY going to happen-- mandatory credentialing is in our future, whether you approve of it or not. If they had done this 20 years ago, you might see our situation in a different position today.

Bring on the credentialing!! Every other LEGITIMATE PROFESSION has one. This is a necessary step in FINALLY allowing MT to NOT be the ugly stepchild!

I've had my CMT for years and plan to keep it. I've heard people make fun of CMTs and the people who worked hard to achieve that goal. Most of them could not pass the test, which is one thing that makes MTs look bad. We have an enormous crop of poor MTs with the attitude that they are better than they really are, when you look at their work. If we had more MTs who took their career seriously, it would benefit everyone.

I think that is a bunch of bull making people have a "title" to have a job. I have been a medical transcriptionist for 25 years. It didn't matter if I was a CMT or not, my job was outsourced to an overseas company. I don't think that having a credential would have prevented that! Do you think people in India, Indonesia, Phillipines, and other countries have a CMT or credentials. Heck NO they don't. They don't even have correct English! This is a crock!

I've started trying to understand it. I see lots of software programs out there that supposedly handle this. But if there are multiple programs, how does all the various work put into these programs end up in ONE (!?) place where a persons medical record can be accessed by any medical professional? Have been on E5 for a year and unable maintain 186 lph. This is the first time in my 20+ years as an MT that it has been so hard to reach the required lines. Today I forced myself to sit in the chair and moved only to go to the bathroom a couple times, and a 1-minute stretch every hour (timed). Still only managed about 170 lph. I work for the NorthEast section of Medquist and my supervisor wanted to verify all of our hours before we started getting locked-out of working hours other than our scheduled hours. HI all, I could've sworn I read this somewhere that medical transcriptionists - even the REMOTE ones WORKING AT HOME ! - are REQUIRED by some employers to get annual flu shots. Is this true?? specs for most companies that require you to have your own computer. Got laid off from MM, who provided computers (the ONLY good thing about them!)....but now as I am looking I am finding most places don't do this. Can you use a laptop if you have the required specs? has crashed my personal laptop 3 times, at a cost of $220 to me so far for repair, and makes it so slow that I cannot use it. I also cannot use it for anything personal AT ALL. I worked full-time with no problem, including the day of their download, until this antivirus was loaded. I recently started with a new company where I am paid per minute. I am required to do at least 15 minutes of audio per hour while in training and then at least 20 minutes of audio per hour after that point as the minimum requirements. The account that I am on has dictations that are mostly 1 minute or less, fast talkers and pulling in templates. Do you think that these minimums are attainable?
