FYI - extra research now required - fiddlefaddle

Posted: Mar 16, 2010

For all that do not want to do the extra research to fill in the blanks cuz it takes too much time, too much effort, losing money trying to get it all done to help your qa submission rate I'd like to welcome you to what we as QA/MME have been doing for 3 cpl ....all of that research and more.  Now maybe some MTs (not all) will stop throwing QA under the bus and realize what we've had to do all this time for 3 cpl.  Thank you and have a nice day.

whatever, you only had to fill in the blanks - not type the whole darn report

[ In Reply To ..]
I think all MTs do research as well!

All of our jobs are hard and require skill.

Dont act like a bozo!

aren't you special - fiddlefaddle

[ In Reply To ..]
Hey newsflash we transcribe too and stilldo the extra research that has now been opened up to everyone, dictator reports, old patient reports, etc. We also have to spend much time sending emails to our CCMS to try and help out MTs such as yourself on things we corrected or ways we were able to find the answer to a blank in hopes that it will help them in the long run. So you can call me a bozo or whatever you'd like, but it is high time that people like you get a taste of what we've been doing all this time and getting paid a whole lot less for.

We are not required to do more research - steam

[ In Reply To ..]
We are only given the power, like yourself, to send blanks directly to the client.

There is no extra research to be done.

You are not extra special. You have no higher education or talent. It was an open book test to be an MME and I CHOSE not to take a decrease in pay to become one.

If you don't like the fact that you got burned on that deal, don't take it out on the MTs.

no one is better than anyone else and no one implied it either - fiddlefaddle

Being able to get into previous reports by dictator or by patient is a major helpful tool that we have used to fill in those blanks. Listen, for those you never send to qa or send very little fine, but for those that do send a lot to qa and are worried abou qa submission, this is a way to help them to send minimal blanks to the client. At some point, there is going to be an issue of "too many blanks being sent to client" and that will effect those that abuse the system and eventually everyone will pay just as we are now. Again, it is "if the shoe fits wear it" type of thing. NO we are not any better than you and I worked my butt off from learning transcription 20 years ago to the position I finally held as QA...so don't talk to me about open book test, there wasn't one. You either did your job, did it with excellence and advanced yourself or you didn't.
Yup! That is the next salary cut by MQ - sending too many blanks - to the clients.
[ In Reply To ..]
MQ has this all planned already.

Be very careful when sending blanks to the client.

This will come back to haunt everyone.

Just wait.

Blanks - P&P
[ In Reply To ..]
So, they don't want you to send blanks but they don't want you to guess and they don't want you to send stuff to QA. Their whole world is built on Don't Do This, Don't Do That! I'm sick of the whole mess. I'm too old for this crap!
Oh yes you are - why do you think they gave you the ability - to RESEARCH old reports?
[ In Reply To ..]
Don't think you can send unlimited blanks to the clients. If you keep doing that, it will catch up to you in an audit. Then MQ will devise a new salary cut for too many blanks sent to clients. I see it coming.

Yes, you DO have to research now, you are not supposed to just say, "Oh, well, I don't know what it is, so the client gets blanks on everything that is unclear."

MQ is giving YOU the MT the tools now to RESEARCH!

But, if you want to keep leaving blanks, go right ahead. You will pay the piper eventually.

But QA was already sending blanks. About 9 out of 10 QA markers of mine were not filled in by QA either. I don't know that the customer will even notice a difference.

Here Here!! The chickens have come home to roost. - Finally.

[ In Reply To ..]
MQ will regret this. The suits have never read some of these "OKAY" reports by SOME MTs.

Now the MTs who knew there was someone out there to research that report are finding out just how easy it is to fill in the blanks.

It isn't easy, is it?

But, we are all working for nothing now. They got us all on the same playing field just about.

No-one ever was better than anyone else. QA was just an easy target. Well I will tell you there are some MTs out there that should be run out of town!

Now that you all have the option of looking at the reports, START LOOKING AT THEM. You will know who among you should not be an MT.

Just read.

Ha! I wish I had a nickel for every report I had to practically - re-type because it was so baaad!

[ In Reply To ..]
I received report with 75 BLANKS in it and got them ALL except for ONE!!

Have you been looking at some of the reports in the system ALREADY? Ones that MTs have already been pushing through?

Haaaaa! This is gonna bite MQ where it counts!!

Look, you and every other MT on here may be perfectly capable, but there are many who are NOT! Already there is a thread below talking about the CRAP that is in the reports!

And--you ARE not made by MQ to QA your OWN reports FOR FREE!!!! The OP is right. You are being told that you will be PUNISHED for sending ANYTHING to QA, so in effect they are telling all of you QA IT YOURSELF FOR FREE!

We all work for free now for MQ.

QA is done now by MTs and CLIENTS!!! FOR FREE!!!!!

I know a lot of my reports are 50, 60 and sometimes over 100 lines with only 1 or 2 blanks in them. That didn't sound so bad to me to get $3 to fill in 1 blank. Some of it must not have been THAT bad.

Research - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
We had already done sometimes 15 minutes of "research" looking to fill in the blank which then the QA either sent on blank or filled in incorrectly.

ya got that right! - duh

[ In Reply To ..]
Way to many "Incorrectly" to count.

so I guess no QA has ever been helpful to any of you right? - fiddlefaddle

[ In Reply To ..]
There are many, many of us that have done a darn good job in filling in those blanks and there have been many, many MTs who have thanked us for the help. Yup there are times when we don't get the blanks, but have you ever seen the swiss cheese reports that we have gotten with 80+ blanks (sometimes just because an MT had had enough and didn't want to spend extra time) and even if we only get 25 filled in, that's 25 that may have helped that MT the next time and usually he/she is thankful for that. For those MTs I thank you, for the rest that are just miserable and want to pick on everything oh well.

I have had 2 in 6 years that were truly nice, respectful, and helpful. I loved them dearly. Don't know where they went. I had 1 that almost drove me insane. I stopped even checking my feedback for quite some time. She was the nastiest, most hateful human being. Otherwise, mostly just average.
Thank you. - fiddlefaddle

Thanks for noting that. We are all just regular people. You've got your nice, not so nice and down right nasty everywhere. It would just be nice to see not so much nasty here on this board and yup I should probably stay away from here for that very reason. The Q knocks us down enough don't need my coworkers doing the same.
Wasn't that the point of your original post - to be nasty to the MTs
[ In Reply To ..]
You bust out with the "for all of you who don't do research, now you know what it is like" garbage and then you except people to be NICE to you.

You knock the MTs down but then you don't want your coworkers doing the same to you. Double-sided coin.

What is the matter with us?! - Old part-timer

[ In Reply To ..]
Are we going to start sniping at each other again? MME, QA, MT, it's all the same - I trust we do our best to hear and transcribe an accurate report while MQ is chipping away at our pay, cutting out our bonuses and eroding our self-esteem. And we have nothing better to do than to have the MMEs brag about "now you see how bad we have it" and the MTs responding with "things usually get filled in wrong anyway." C'mon, people. Our jobs are turning to dreck before our eyes. We're all in the same boat and it's sinking!

>fiddlefaddle - P&P

[ In Reply To ..]
You're absolutely right. I do strictly editing now. I don't think I could do the transcription side anymore. The ASR is sometimes pitiful and almost always somewhat laughable the things it puts in a report. But we really shouldn't be griping and tearing each other down. MQ hierarchy is where the problem lies. I'm thinking they want all the money for themselves while they sit there and think up new things we should and shouldn't be doing and hang us out to dry using HIPPA as a scapegoat!

100% correct. Dont fight each other, FIGHT MQ! - NM

Not all MTs send reports on a regular basis to QA/MME. I for one would rather spend the extra time getting a quality report, rather than send it to somebody for the credit. The only time I send to QA is for garbled dictation and then it never gets fixed there either. At least now I can actually avoid QA/MME completely. That's a relief!

QA/MME is great for newbies and those just learning an account. However, most of us MTs with many years under our belts can figure most things out with a little research, even most newbies can. Research is part of the job anyway and nothing new.

Some MTs use QA/MME as the "I don't want to bother with it" solution to filling in the blanks. However, any MT worth their weight would never take on that attitude, even with the worst dictators. I think this new procedure will definitely do some weeding out on all sides (MT and QA/MME).

bless you - L&L

When I worked on site, we were always supposed to use old charts if we needed. We even pulled up bills to see what meds patients were charged for.

If you don't do research, you don't get better. Even if you have a QA fill in your blanks and learn from that, you don't get as much benefit as doing your own research.

I've done this since 1972. I still spend time to look up new equipment, meds, and other terminology, and I learn something new every day. AND I still enjoy it.

What Do You Guys Think Is An Appropriate Amount Of Time For Research For A Report?

For say a syndrome, a drug, a doctor's name/address, facility name/address, etc.?  If I think I can hear the dictation correctly I do spend an extended amount of time because I KNOW I can find it.  However, if it is ify as to what I am hearing or the spellings could be a dozen different things, I ususally send to QA because if I am not sure - it's probably going to end up to QA anyway.  I NEVER look up a doctor's name if the first name is not dictate ...
