Best credentialing prep course? - sm

My company is offering an incentive in pay if I get credentialized, so I am going to go for CMT.

My question to all of you is which course is the best to take? I see that Career Step, M-Tec, and Omniscribe offer prep courses, but I don't want to waste time and money on these if they will not adequately prepare me for the exam.

Talk to the school you attended. You probably don't need a prep course if you got good training in the first place. Just get some advice from your own school.

Sorry, but to say if you had good training you don't need a prep course is so very short sighted.

There are prep courses for the CPA exam, for the bar exam, heck there are prep courses just to take the LCAT or MCAT. The people I know who have taken the CPA exam prep courses of the bar exam prep courses said they would never have passed on the first try if they hadn't done that.

These certification or entrance exams cover a HUGE amount of material and no matter how good you are, you can't be intimately familiar with all of it.

OP - check with AHDI about the prep courses. They should have it listed in the same area as they do about the info to take the test. If nothing else, google CMT preparation and see what you find.

I used the CMT Review Guide and the Book of Style and studied a lot! I was an MT for over 20 years before I took the test, the main reason being I never really needed it, but the company I work for acknowledges CMTs with increased PTO.

I honestly don't think I would have passed without so much studying, especially the CMT Review Guide. It was a difficult test, IMO, and so glad I passed because I definitely would not want to sit through it again! Check out the AHDI web site in the credentialing section. Good luck!

I just brought in my mail and there was the March 28 issue of "For the Record", a magazine that was part of my AHDI membership benefits. I was thinking... mandatory CMT credentialing might not be a bad thing. I'd have no problem passing that exam, but would the Indian MTs? If CMT were a requirement for ANY MT transcribing/editing US-based medical dictation, I think we'd lose our Indian partners pretty quickly. If AHDI could ("would" is probably more appropriate) make this happen, I'd gleefully pay CMT dues and attend all the seminars, etc. ...

AHDI is seeking public comments on proposed changes to its model curriculum. One of those changes is a requirement that ONLY CMTs be allowed to work as Instructors at AHDI approved schools. I am just looking for some opinions on whether it's worth it to keep the RMT credential. My 3 years are up and I got a letter from AHDI saying in order to keep it, I need to take a course (which costs $100) and complete it before my credential expires. In order to meet that deadline, I have to sign up for the test by the end of this month so I can take it in October, which is also the month it expires. This month is the absolute worst month ever to try to come up with an extra $100! ...

Hey everyone! I'm looking into taking an RMT prep course to prepare me for the RMT exam and then will be going for the CMT exam later on. I took my MT training with Career Step, but they keep pushing the time frame on re-releasing their RMT prep course back later and later. It was due to release this August and now it will be mid-fall. I have a question regarding the different prep courses offered for the RMT exam. There is one offered through OAK Horizons and one offered through Career Steps. I am wondering if anyone has used them and found them to be helpful at all or a complete waist of money. After being so tired of not being taken seriously and dealing with management shifts that don't know me from Jane, I really would like to take the CMT test.
