Opinions wanted on RMT credentialing - mimtt

I am just looking for some opinions on whether it's worth it to keep the RMT credential. My 3 years are up and I got a letter from AHDI saying in order to keep it, I need to take a course (which costs $100) and complete it before my credential expires. In order to meet that deadline, I have to sign up for the test by the end of this month so I can take it in October, which is also the month it expires. This month is the absolute worst month ever to try to come up with an extra $100!

My current job does not pay more for having the RMT (it will pay extra for CMT though). I recently did some job searching and not one placed cared whether a person had an RMT or CMT.

Does it really matter whether a person has this or not, do you think?

Heck... ill give it to you for 75 and throw in the title RHDS (registered healthcare document specialist). Now don't that make ya feel all fancy?

Yes, that's about how I feel about it. It seems useless to me. When I was job searching I was never asked about it, and I didn't run across any companies that paid a premium for it. So other than that fancy schmancy useless title, what's the point?

My CECs are due in late October, and I debated whether it was worth it or not to pursue since I still needed 20 more credits. I just finished up some training to get out of MT and am currently applying for non-MT jobs in my new field. Anyway, I decided to apply and see if I could get 10 clinical medicine CECs with the classes I just finished up, and I decided if I were turned down by AHDI I would let my CMT go, and if I were not turned down, I would go ahead and do the work and get the other CECs done. Well, they approved all 10 CECs for my college course work, so I went ahead and did the other 10 I needed, and I am not letting my CMT go after all.

I am going ahead and transitioning over to CHDS as well just to get the word "transcriptionist" off of my resume because I think it conjures up "mommies in jammies" for a lot of people, and I want to have that certification listed on there. Note: I list my current title as medical document preparation specialist and don't even have my CMT listed on my resume because it contains the word "transcriptionist." Plus this gives me something constructive to do while I am in limbo and keeps my mind active.

My company is offering an incentive in pay if I get credentialized, so I am going to go for CMT. My question to all of you is which course is the best to take? I see that Career Step, M-Tec, and Omniscribe offer prep courses, but I don't want to waste time and money on these if they will not adequately prepare me for the exam. ...

I was thinking... mandatory CMT credentialing might not be a bad thing. I'd have no problem passing that exam, but would the Indian MTs? If CMT were a requirement for ANY MT transcribing/editing US-based medical dictation, I think we'd lose our Indian partners pretty quickly. If AHDI could ("would" is probably more appropriate) make this happen, I'd gleefully pay CMT dues and attend all the seminars, etc. ...

AHDI is seeking public comments on proposed changes to its model curriculum. One of those changes is a requirement that ONLY CMTs be allowed to work as Instructors at AHDI approved schools. My plan was to retire PT and work PT, however, I was told MModal is no longer allowing employees to go PT only if you are grandfathered in. I'm totally getting burned out at MQ. If it's not the NJA with requests to change schedule, then it's the lack of primary and getting other unknown accounts slowing me down. I've gone from full-time at MQ down to working part-time with another part-time job to make up lost income now for the past 7 months. This Asian doc is dictating an EEG report. He says: "There is high amplitude delta [probably waves/activity] that is associated with s/l clef seizure or right arm movements."
