Are employees treated better than IC's? - CarpalTunnelLady

Posted: Jul 11, 2013

What have been your experiences?

No, just the opposite. As an IC, you will have no benefits and if - you lose your job, sm

[ In Reply To ..]
you will not be eligible for unemployment. That is a huge risk for an MT because we lose our jobs every year as we try to outrun outsourcing and SR. However, as an employee, you will have a bit of a safety net but they will hound you like there is no tomorrow to meet absolutely unreal expectations with their lousy audio, ridiculously inefficient software and dictators who, frankly, don't actually speak English. On top of that, you will be receive mountains of emails and quite possibly phone calls telling you how many mistakes you have made (we're talking commas) and whether or not you are meeting the "quota." I'm on my way out of MT, thankfully, and I'm an IC at the moment. I run out of work every day and I have to babysit my account, literally watch it for 17 hours a day, to try and enough money to just get me through the next 9 months, but at least I don't have any dipwit calling or writing me and complaining. I really wonder what will happen to all the middle managers when this whole industry finally implodes. They seem to have no other skill set aside from complaining about the very smallest thing.

Agree with you... - CarpalTunnelLady

You are so right...I totally agree, especially about the middle management. Even as an IC, I have never found a manager that doesn't get on my LAST NERVE. I receive lots of "comments" from my manager as well (even though I am an IC) about my schedule and line count. I have never been en employee before only an IC. As a part-timer, I feel that I get overlooked for good dictator and made to feel bad/incompetent because I don't work full-time while most of the others do.

Honestly, at some point, the sheer hostility directed at MTs - will finally reach critical mass and sm

[ In Reply To ..]
there is going to be no one left who is willing to stay and do the work. We are almost there in the U.S. I know so many people who are getting out. In fact, the only people I know who don't get that 1000-yard stare and talk about the local nursing program, are 59 years old. They're leaving soon too, just not for another job. Everyone else is running for their lives. You can't ask people to know what we know and accept this treatment and wage structure. You can get this paycheck and be an empty head at an empty-head job. The pressure and the history is going to kill MT if the EHR doesn't get there first.
You would think, but... - Leaving MT
[ In Reply To ..]
...there are too many schools still teaching MT to gullible, starry-eyed students who will do anything to get their foot in the door with that first MT job, thinking it will be different for them once they get experience. That's who will stay and do the work, and the turnover will just be really high in the industry with newbies coming and going.

No, just the opposite, employees are treated worse - hopelessMT

I agree to the max with CarpalTunnelLady. I am going through everything she is speaking of and I get paid minimum wage --- they manipulate it to be that way and they claim they pay per line when you first get hired. It is like a truck driver who drives 1200 miles at .25 cents a mile=300.00 they divide it by hours to convert it to hourly pay, say 15.00 an hour and throw the 15.00 an hour rate in the trash, then lower the pay to the minimum wage of the corresponding state --- I did not even think this was legal. so say it is 7.80, the pay is 156.00. If the employee does not like it, they are free to leave. we are living in a country that gets away with too much injustice especially in MT work.

As Employee, - I do not feel treated well

[ In Reply To ..]
MT managers don't much care about the employees, either. To say that ICs are "treated worse" because they're not getting benefits, is just sort of the decision one makes when they choose IC. Employees are just as much (maybe more) expected to sit around the clock waiting for work.

As employee, having PTO only counts for something in that you get to use it when you run out of work! Instead of for a vacation with your loved ones,
you are sucking it dry using it for PTO. About the only GOOD thing about full-time employee is the insurance benefits--which is all going to go down the shooter with Obamacare anyway, so even that's not much of a benefit anymore--at least it won't be in the near future when it all kicks in.

It all stinks, actually! And so I quit the MT biz in November of 2012.

Prbc S/l Irradiated Treated Leukopoor

So I'm thinking this is packed red blood cells and then the garbled part, which sounds like irradiated treated leukpoor.  I have found "leukopoor" by googling, but my word expander doesn't recognize this term.  Stedman's oncology book has it, but it's an old edition. So what is this thing?? Am I completely off on this term? It is pretty garbled. ...

OMG How Funny - Read Glassdoor Opinion Of Employees, US Versus Indian Employees!
Aug 05, 2013

I was just curious about what employees thought of Nuance on Glassdoor.  You read several US employee opinions and they reflect the morale listed on MTStars.  Scroll further down and read the opinions of the transcriptionists from India.  What a difference.  They are highly satisfied with their jobs and most have been working with Nuance for 6 to 7 years.  The US transcriptionists are very sad!!  What a difference..... ...

To Other New MQ Employees: I'd Like To Know What
Apr 13, 2011

sort of things you're getting QA'd for, to compare notes.  For instance, I'm new to VS, and I tend to leave in double words.  I think what's happening is that I hear it, so my mind just blocks out the extra one and I don't see it.  I spend a lot of energy trying to out-guess the QA, but no matter what I put in certain instances, I'm marked off.  If I put "The patient," then she fills in the name.  If I put the name, then she puts "The patien ...

Do You MQ Employees Sometimes Think
Aug 17, 2011

Someone jumps on this board, fires it all up by saying to use F11 for every ASR job, and then calls their CCM to say "read the MTstars board" and then they go check who is doing it and fires them, all the while the pot-stirrer looks all cutsie in the CCMs eyes and more work opens up for the pot-stirrer?Maybe it is my wild imagination, but it seems like all that "stop typing for a day" and if that does not work, then "stop typing for 2 days," and "use F11 for all ASR jobs," all feels so not ...

Production Employees (not IC's): How Much
Jul 13, 2010

The compensation structure and "minimum" hourly or daily production expectations often encourage people in our industry to work unreported hours in order to meet minimums.  You have a day when you get a rash of the account's most trying dictators, for instance, and at the end of 8 hours you realize that you haven't met minimums...so you work another hour, while reporting only the 8 hours. Transcription companies are, of course, aware of this dirty little secret and do nothing abo ...
