Hospital coding positions - Student

It's been a really rough week. I work in a MR dept. There is so much favoritism & immaturity here. I'm trying to get my CPC & eventually my RHIA. Are there other coding positions in a normal hospital setting that are not in MR? I think here they have a tumor registrar & some coders in the business office as well. I just don't want to be in the environment I'm in right now.

Tumor Registrars, but those jobs don't come up very often. My facility is set up so that all of our coders work out of the business office but I think that's kind of rare, most of them are MR based. Also, don't judge other hospital MR departments by yours; most of us are mature adults (I don't code but I work in MR). Unfortunately, in an office we have to take the good with the bad and try to stay out of the fray.

So glad I'm in school. We are treated with so much disrespect. I've never had to work in conditions like this before. I'm really discouraged.

Poor working conditions, disrespect, abuse, pettiness, and immaturity are found throughout the work world, as well as just about everywhere else. They are not limited to MR.

I know it is painful for you to experience this. When you are in the middle of it, it can wear you down. Everyone has given good advice, so take it to heart. I also recommend that you don't take it personally. It has NOTHING to do with you and EVERYTHING to do with them. People who act like that have a personal problem. They are flawed. Maybe even evil.

Remembering that you are there to do a job, not to become embroiled in their turmoil, try very hard to ignore them. Rise above them. We do not need to sink to the level of others. They will get their just reward some day.

Learn from them, too. Learn how NOT to act, how not to manage, etc. When you have your RHIA, you will be all the better for it.

I had that experience also. Realize you are wasting your â��mind timeâ�� on worrying about them, thinking over how/why and what they're going to pull next as their whole goal seems to be to â��getâ�� other people - good people. Focus on doing your job well. Of course half the reason these things went on where I was, was because the management were of the same ilk or had no spines. So you will probably not get praise or support from them. What I focused on was the fact that I was doing a good job and I was getting a paycheck and benefits until I could move on. It was very hard to realize, but it was my own mind I had to change. Every day I had to repeat some mantra to myself, but I conquered this by tuning them out. I since have moved on and each time I am in with a nicer group of people.

For treating me like this, because it was the impetus to further my career. I will not waste my mind on why they are doing this. I'll keep putting one foot in front of the other & hopefully I can use this as a stepping stone to a new, better job where my efforts will be appreciated.

Heard a rumor that the CTL positions are being eliminated around the 15th. Perhaps this is a question you should ask your CCMs/area directors? Not sure if it is true but when asked specifically, it was not denied but there is something brewing around the 15th. Seems like all CTLs will be moved to the MME positions and the CCMs will assume the CTL duties. Sounds like another shake up at the Q which always happens around the holidays. Wonder if ...

I want to get my work today and turn it in by a certain time the next day without having to work a schedule or in pools. Just wandering if there are any employee positions that aren't just editing out there. I feel like I am not growing as an MT doing nothing but editing. Does anyone ever simply e-mail a resume to a company rather than completing the long, drawn out application they want filled out when you click the link to apply? I am looking for a true IC position where I can work when I am available due to being handicapped.
