What happened to the MT positions - Depressed MT

Posted: Nov 30, 2013

What has happened to the MT jobs?  I can't even get anyone to return a message stating that they have no more openings or I just don't fit the position.  Every year I have worked holiday's and every minute of every day and in the middle of the night if needed and now nothing?  I am trying to find something with someone and you'd think I had leprosy. I have been doing nothing short of practically begging some of these places for jobs. I am disabled and have to work from home and have since 2004. I lost my son in February and need something to keep my mind busy. I had another stroke a month after he passed but am quite capable of doing my transcription. Where did all the jobs go? I have sent in 3 resumes recently and haven't even heard back with a no thanks, it's been filled, nothing. What has happened to this field?  I don't want that speech recognition because of the pay they give you and having to rewrite the whole report anyways. Right now I'm up for anything though. I have no money for Christmas and as if it hasn't been a bad enough year, there is nothing worse than not having anything for your grandkids and those faces when they see their new toy.  I don't ask for much. I'd even work part time if I needed to but this has just gotten ridiculous to the point that no one will even reply to your resume's anymore.  I plan on going to school for coding in January but is it going to be the same thing?  If I could I would be in house again but I don't have that option. If you have any idea of where I can go that they don't treat you like you know nothing, QA has different rules than the managers do. I just want to and need to work. I have to eat and buy my medications....  Help anyone.....

Please don't be discouraged...SM - Old Anon

When I was laid off from my in-house job 2 years ago, I suspected I'd have a better chance if I embraced SR/editing (I'd never done it but was willing to learn). In the space of 2 months, I sent out approximately 20 resumes and tested for many MTSOs. During that time, I only heard from a few saying, "no thanks", not hiring or they didn't hire from my state. Then, lo and behold, I got responses from 3 MTSOs to intervew. I interviewed with them over a 2 day period, and I chose the company I liked best. I'm still with them 2 years later. It is editing, and I got pretty good at it. While editing can be bad sometimes, most of the time, the drafts are really decent. I have never had to delete one and then straight type it. So, the moral of this story is that it takes time. I hope you are able to collect unemployment in the meantime and take advantage of all the social welfare/freebie programs you can, like food stamps, heating assistance, senior meal sites, food banks, etc. Again, sorry for your troubles but try to keep you chin up.

I feel for your - problems...

for one thing, check over your resume. Perhaps there is something in there that is saying too much or not saying it correctly. have it reviewed by a resume service for any input on that. sometimes just the way something "reads" can turn off a reader and it goes into the circular file. Try not to be too direct about how long you have been doing this, either. sometimes if they get an inkling of your age, there is another circular file candidate. do not be too specific about the amount of companies you work for. name them, of course, but just the bare necessities. don't be too specific about dates either, just like 1998 - 2000 or whatever. sometimes less is more. name your specialties. they seem to look at that more than the amount of time you spent there.

also, and this is not meant to offend anyone, do NOT be too forthcoming about your disabilities. do not offer them any information about your personal problems at all...they can and will use that against you. they are not supposed to discriminate, but unfortunately some do. try not to sound too desperate either. they pick up on that quickly, as well. Include a very short cover letter stating your experience in your specialties, like 10 years of ortho or something, but not too specific. Include in the cover letter the type of equipment you have, your PC, how much RAM, foot pedal, antivirus program, medical dictionary, and many reference sites on the internet, etc. They like to know this. Tell them that you feel you would be an asset to their organization and that you are anxious to test with them. sound positive and upbeat about your qualifications to do the job they are advertising for. Just some hints, is all.

TransPortal is hiring. they are not the "best" by any means, but they are in need right now, and you may stand a chance to at least get something.

good luck, and many blessings for a brighter future. hang in there!!

try Line By Line - you might have to call them

you can't apply online. Look them up and call them Monday. Another one is SmartMD. Good luck.

CTL Positions Being Eliminated?
Nov 05, 2009

Heard a rumor that the CTL positions are being eliminated around the 15th.   Perhaps this is a question you should ask your CCMs/area directors?   Not sure if it is true but when asked specifically, it was not denied but there is something brewing around the 15th.   Seems like all CTLs will be moved to the MME positions and the CCMs will assume the CTL duties.  Sounds like another shake up at the Q which always happens around the holidays.  Wonder if ...

TRANSTECH POSITIONS
Oct 05, 2010

TRANSTECH AS YOU CAN SEE BY THEIR NEED OF HELP, NEED THE HELP BECAUSE SO MANY PEOPLE LEAVE.  THEY DO NOT SEND OUT QA STATS AS MOST PROFESSIONAL COMPANIES DO AND THEY ALSO DO NOT EVEN SEND E-MAILS FROM QA TELLING YOU WHAT YOU ARE DOING INCORRECTLY.  THEY JUST FIRE YOU.  DO NOT WORK FOR THEM.  THEY ARE NOT A FAIR COMPANY TO WORK FOR.  ...

Are There Any IC Positions With 24-hour TAT?
Jan 12, 2011

Can anyone give me information on companies who hire IC's with a 24-hour turn around time?  I want to get my work today and turn it in by a certain time the next day without having to work a schedule or in pools.  With everything else going on with these companies from low pay, heavy ESL's, and lack of work, I would at least like to have the flexibility of doing the work on MY time.  Thanks in advance.... ...

Transolutions Few Positions Available
Jun 02, 2011

When I spoke with the recruiter, it sounded like there were just a few positions available. Yet, another recruiting ad showed up on Tuesday evening at another major MT recruiting website. So, I'm wondering, is the recruiter using the old trick of sounding like I'd better jump and grab one of those "few" positions, or did a bunch of people who were already hired suddenly quit? I wonder why Transolutions has had so many recruiting ads lately. Again, I was told that there were only ...

TL Positions At Transcend
Jul 09, 2011

Are They All Editing Positions?
Jul 30, 2011

Just wandering if there are any employee positions that aren't just editing out there.  I feel like I am not growing as an MT doing nothing but editing.  Unless I choose to just edit and accept this is the new norm at 3 cents a line, eventually getting my own voice recognition software for the future for any accounts I want to get on my own. Any thoughts? I am wandering if this is something  I just need to hop onboard for.  Editing for nationals doesn't pay anything ...

Applying For Positions
Jul 21, 2013

Does anyone ever simply e-mail a resume to a company rather than completing the long, drawn out application they want filled out when you click the link to apply?  I have 30 years of experience and do not want to spend time filling in information about every job I have ever had and why I left, where I went to school, emergency contacts, etc on their application, only to never hear from the company and would prefer just to e-mail a resume with a cover letter.  Does anyone ever do this? ...

Are There Any True IC Positions?
Jul 22, 2013

I am looking for a true IC position where I can work when I am available due to being handicapped. I sometimes have some very bad days and can't get out of bed as a result of it and I keep losing jobs. I am also wondering if there are any companies that pay MTs what they're worth on VR. I feel like we do twice the work for less pay. It's a lot harder if you ask me, especially if you have an account full of doc's who suck at dictation and sound more like auctioneers than a do ...

Where Are The Good Paying Positions?

I did not spend 35 years doing transcription to take a job paying 5, 6 or 7 cpl.  I would rather be a greeter at Walmart than to sink this low.  What the devil is happening in the transcription world.  It seems like all MTSOs are going bonkers. ...

Hospital Coding Positions
Oct 03, 2013

It's been a really rough week.  I work in a MR dept.  There is so much favoritism & immaturity here.  I'm trying to get my CPC & eventually my RHIA.  Are there other coding positions in a normal hospital setting that are not in MR?  I think here they have a tumor registrar & some coders in the business office as well.  I just don't want to be in the environment I'm in right now. ...

In-house Positions At Labcorp Question...
Nov 03, 2009

Does anyone know any information about the transcription positions at Labcorp? They are in-house.  I have applied and they have called me (still playing phone tag with them).  Just curious if anyone has experienced working with them.  Not sure if I should take the big plunge and start working in-house rather than at home (with MQ for 8 years).  I have been with MQ for my entire transcriptionist career and have never worked in-house, but I'm wondering if it's ti ...
