Does anyone ever simply e-mail a resume to a company rather than completing the long, drawn out application they want filled out when you click the link to apply? I have 30 years of experience and do not want to spend time filling in information about every job I have ever had and why I left, where I went to school, emergency contacts, etc on their application, only to never hear from the company and would prefer just to e-mail a resume with a cover letter. Does anyone ever do this?

follow their instructions, they will not even look at your resume and it ends up in the circular file. Following instructions is a part of their testing routine. If you cannot even follow the simple instruction of filling out their online application along with submission of your resume, what steps are you going to skip while doing transcription. I know those applications are lengthy and redundant, but they are a part of the process. The way I look at it is, "how badly do you want the job? Enough to do things their way??" I keep a hard copy of my resume in front of me while I am filling these things out and it is easier to navigate through them with all the information right in front of me. I give them everything they as for, do not skip steps. 30 years of experience means nothing if you cannot follow instructions. JMO

If you applied for an in-house position or a non-MT job, would you expect to be excused from filling out an application or taking a test because you "had 30 years experience"? Some of the smaller companies will ask you to e-mail a resume and cover letter, but the larger ones have an on-line process that job seekers need to follow; all of them will require you to test. I agree, knowing how to follow instructions (and being a team player) is important.

this is how I apply. And my percentage on hearing back from doing so is approximately 85%.

I send a short cover letter, paste in my resume, and submit it.

Needed because they are fed through a filter that will pick out ones to look at based on terminology. For example if a company wants someone with experience with a specific software and the application does not notate this, then the application is skipped over. For this reason it is suggested that you use specific terminology noted in the wanted ads to. This also helps eliminate to some degree discrimation based on gender, age, etc.

Thank you for all the responses. I know it is not the norm evidently but yesteday I filled out the application and submitted it to the company in question, so far have heard nothing, this morning I sent an e-mail with my resume and within 15 minutes had a call and an appointment set up. I understand the logic behind the application now but in this case, I think it was of benefit to do it both ways.

Heard a rumor that the CTL positions are being eliminated around the 15th. Perhaps this is a question you should ask your CCMs/area directors? Not sure if it is true but when asked specifically, it was not denied but there is something brewing around the 15th. Seems like all CTLs will be moved to the MME positions and the CCMs will assume the CTL duties. Sounds like another shake up at the Q which always happens around the holidays. Wonder if ...

I am looking for a true IC position where I can work when I am available due to being handicapped.
