M*Modal Integrates its Speech Understanding™ Technology with the iMedX TurboFlow® Software Platform

Pittsburgh, PA and Shelton, CT — February 21, 2011 (HIMSS Booth #1637) — M*Modal and iMedX, Inc., a leading healthcare software and services company, today announced a partnership that has created a full integration of M*Modal’s leading Speech Understanding™ platform with the iMedX proprietary TurboFlow® system. TurboFlow is a robust, Internet-based platform that supports the rapidly growing iMedX customer base and workforce of transcriptionists. With Speech Understanding, iMedX drives substantial reductions in document turnaround times, and facilitates better clinical care, and revenue cycle management for its clients. In addition, the M*Modal technology supports iMedX’s strategy of rich integration with provider EMR systems by creating structured documents natively, consistent with the Clinical Document Architecture (CDA) standard, as well as text, adding informational value to what would otherwise be unstructured data.

There are only a few speech engines out there, so it makes sense that they use the one from MM. So does Keystrokes, Chase, Medscribes, Presyce, and many others. This is not a big surprise.

I was, however, surprised at how many companies IMedX has acquired. They must be getting pretty large, but a lot of those were small companies.

Does anyone have a guess as to who the five largest companies are now?

MTSOs are captive partners. They were sleeping when MM initiated a huge sales pitch to the medical community for their "speech engine." I and others have found Fluency to be quite inferior to some of the Word-based platforms still in use. Sooooooo, hasn't JPM's investment arm with their American tax bailout money hyper-sold the medical community into believing their speech engine is superior? Transcription is just one nitch in their takeover of medicine-based industries. The MTSOs have no choice but to become captive partners with MM in order to survive at the expense of the medical transcriptionists. MTSOs are still partners, but really with no power.

I just want to say how sorry I am for those of you at TT. This had to have hit you guys like a ton of bricks. iMedX is heavily technology-based. You will likely not see a lot of changes for a several months (they seem to be in the buying phase) but once the dust settles, I would imagine a significant percentage of their MTs will be gone. MTs who worked previously for companies bought out by Nuance I was wondering did any of you work using satellite internet? If so, what happened when you Nuance took over as Nuance says no satellite? What we were told is that it was a "partnership". They were just described to us as a new HR company taking over our HR Department.
