Question about hiring on with acquisitions - anon

If you were a bad girl and quit a company without notice and were not eligible for rehire, what happens if you and the company you currently work for are acquired by that first company. Do they let you go, keep you? ANyone had this happen?

Depends on the terms of the sale agreement. - They kept me when I was in that position.

I have always wondered about the not eligible for rehire thing when you are an at-will employee - meaning either can sever ties at any time for any reason, etc. They don't have to give you notice when they fire you for example.

Bad girls who quit without notice are immature and do not belong in the business world, including MT. And no, I am not now and have never been, a suit--just someone who believes in treating everyone fairly. Flaky behavior like quitting without notice gives us all a bad name.

I am one of those "bad girls." Guess what? MedQuist did not treat ME fairly. It's not "flaky behavior" or "immature". It's taking care of myself and not allowing myself to be disrespected.

I gave 2 week's notice of intent to quit a job. They disabled my password immediately. Next time I wanted to quit a job, I made sure that I could afford to quit immediately, but gave them the option of my quitting immediately or in two weeks. They also chose to disable my password immediately. I understand that many companies do this these days. So, what's the use of giving them any notice? They certainly don't hesitate to cut our throats if it meets their needs.

MQ treated me very badly, too, for years. However, when I quit I gave 30 days notice because I was the lead MT on a major account and I did not want THEIR behavior to influence me to behave badly. I guess we all have our standards.

I agree with you have to watch out for yourself. The only behavior that is actually "flaky" is if you quit with nothing -- that is flaky and irresponsible. If something better comes up and you are working at a bad place whether it be an MT company or a regular business organization, sometimes it is better for you to just leave. I mean you could be working somewhere for years giving them 110% and all it takes is someone in charge who happens to hate your guts or the way you look and that person doesn't think twice about getting rid of you without notice. What's the difference.

RIGHT... just once I would like to get fired with notice - I mean, really!

It is totally unfair that they can fire me without giving me 2 weeks notice to find another job, but I should give them 2 weeks to hire someone to replace me.

WTF is going on? I am no longer an MT, but I still care about a lot of people who are still TRYING to work at the Q. I want to work a part time job to supplement my other part time job at Nuance because sometimes there is no work. I see an opening at TTS but when reviewing posts about TTS it sounds like a bad place to work with incompetent recruiters and managers. It seems 95% of the posts are bad regarding TTS. some part-timers anyway, why not offer weekends to part-timers and offer some Mon-Fri shifts for the experienced full-time MTs you're trying to get..... Is this just a scam so that employers don't have to pay benefits and employer taxes? I bet if there was an audit, most ICs and MTSOs would be in trouble for using that classification improperly, especially for the full-time positions. I even applied for a full-time secretarial job in a small law office recently, and was told I would be hired as a contractor with no benefits. I was stunned and declined. I see ads for Medtrans all over the internet for all different cities and you go to their website and it seems they are pushing you to take their course and then they will hire you. I am just confused because I keep seeing the companies advertise for months, yet they seem to say "no" a lot. I am surprised to see the job ad for TransTech on the Job Board here...I thought they didn't have enough work. There are two ads actually, one for acute care, the other for oncology. They only hire for 2nd shift and that is to do the leftover, picked-through work from 1st shift. There is no way to make good money going this, though they give you a month to get up to 135 lph, which at 8.5 cpl is a whopping 11.48/hour.
