feedback on Opti-Script? - Wondering
Posted: Dec 25, 2013
Can anyone give me any feedback on Opti-Script? I'm thinking of applying with them. From what I've read, they sound like a pretty decent company to work for. I'm hoping to hear from some MTs who currently work there or who have worked there in the past. Any info on this company, good and bad, would be great.
I would like to know also - Waiting
[ In Reply To ..]
I have been on the "wait list" for 2 or 3 months now to get hired at Opti-Script. Does anyone know on average about how long it takes to get hired when you're on the wait list? Is it really worth waiting for? I remember reading somewhere that someone was on the wait list for an entire year before finally getting a position with them. If that's the average, I've got a long wait ahead of me!
"WAIT LIST". Is this a joke? - SM
[ In Reply To ..]
Let me see - a "wait list" for "waiting to get hired" (LOL). One is not even actually hired yet, just put on a months-long "wait" list. Have they suggested what you are supposed to eat or pay your bills with in the meanwhile?
I would need to actually be "hired", with a max of 1 to 2 weeks to get their $**t together & then put me to work.
They are pushing & pushing & pushing us in every direction they can get away with. ENUF!!!!
Opti-Script questions - Opti MT
[ In Reply To ..]
I've been at Opti-Script now for over 5 years, and it is worth waiting for. Higher line rates than most MTSOs that I'm aware of, and management treats MTs with respect. They do not overhire and rarely run out of work (maybe around holidays, but not this year at all). They do have high standards and expect MTs to work their schedule, but they are flexible and work with you when you need off. PTO is paid at the quarterly average production pay, which is unusual. Insurance not too bad, about like the rest. But there is a waiting period, as they have a lot of people who want to work here, I understand. Management very stable--I think the MT Manager has been here like 17 years and the others about 10 years. Not a lot of turnover at all. They are not perfect, and I know an MT who bashed the company several months ago. But I think she got fired for some issues, but I don't know. She tried to contact me several times to stir up trouble, but I wouldn't talk to her. I'm happy and hope I can stay till I retire. Good luck!
Sounds great - Waiting

It really does sound like a great company to work for, especially compared to so many others out there. I passed their test for acute care around 2-3 months ago, but was told that there were no current openings and that I would be placed on a waiting list. They said that I would hear from them as soon as a position opens up. They sure do seem like a wonderful company. I'm glad that I took the time to test with them and got on the list. I guess I just need to keep patiently waiting. I'm curious as to how big their waiting list is, though. Hopefully I'm not at the very bottom.
Waiting list - Good luck

I've been on that waiting list at least 3 times. I hope you have better luck getting a call back than I did.
Opti-Script - Opti MT #2
[ In Reply To ..]
I've been at Opti for 3 years and it's the best MTSO I've worked for. They do have high standards but make you feel like you're part of a team. Line rates, especially for SR, are higher than any other MTSO that I'm aware of. And if you don't have to send a lot to QA and keep your QA scores up, you are able to make bonuses. But they do reviews.
I work on the toughest account, but their QA team is supportive and feedback is great. Helps you to learn the tough doctors. But there are quality expectations.
They rarely have openings, so that's why there's a waiting list. I did hear at one point that they had several hundred apply for one opening.
Accounts stable. Consistent work. Always pay on time. Very fair and reasonable. Pay for meetings and training. They say it's a different culture and it really is, especially since MModal and Nuance wrecked this industry with their speech wreck and offshoring.
But it's not for everyone and you find that out fairly early on. But for those who make it, they seem to stay forever and are appreciated for what they do. Overtime has been available a lot lately, and that's nice too.
Waiting on Opti-Script - Confused

I wonder why they keep posting ads when they have so many lined up already. Just sayin'...
I wonder that as well - Curious

If they have a waiting list of MTs who have already tested and passed, why are they posting ads for just a handful of positions that they have open instead of contacting those on the waiting list first? I also have been on the waiting list for about 2 months now and have not heard anything from them. I'm not holding my breath at this point.
Opti account/shift match - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
I asked the recruiter that question, and her response was that they were matching shift and experience with the specific account they were hiring for. Looks like they've been hiring for third shift with a lot of ESL, working 1 weekend a month. Maybe that doesn't match with what you put as your preferences. Just reporting what I was told.
What are their line requirements? - Curious MT

I have mostly a clinic background and would be interested in their clinic accounts if an opening came up. I filled out an app and sent Sandy my resume. I'm hoping to have the opportunity to test further and be put on the waiting list for clinics.
Feel free to email me if you don't want to post the info on here.
Thanks in advance for any info you can provide. :)
Nice company, but... - MT
[ In Reply To ..]
As with any company, it depends what account you are being hired for. If it is the east coast trauma center account, it is very, very difficult. They will tell you that it is high ESL, and that is the truth. Having been an MT for 15+ years, I can honestly say that it was the hardest account I have ever worked on. It's very difficult to make anything above minimum wage. Yes, they are a good company in that they do not overhire, have above-average line rates, but with the level of difficulty of this account, it is not worth it at all, in my opinion. You would be better off working for 7 cpl on an easy account somewhere else. Now, if it is not that particular account, you might have a better experience.
I concur with a lot of what you said..Sm - ESL nightmare
[ In Reply To ..]
Probably the same account I am thinking of. It was the worst account I was ever on. I have been an MT for 20 years and save for one account previously, it was just awful. The ESL was frightful! I have been told by someone working there that VR rate was down to 3 cents, but I can't verify that. Yes, there are some really good things about this company, but it doesn't fit everyone, and the stress of this particular account was just not worth it because it was just asking for errors and tears.

Did you switch to a different account, or did you resign? Will they let you switch to a different account to keep you onboard?
I resigned. Sm - ESL nightmare

There was nothing else available. They lost their one large account some time back. Actually a few of us left. Maybe a rash decision. I had a job with better accounts that got bought out, laid off, and then another with great pays and attitudes, etc, that got swallowed by MM. Live and learn, but I had such high hopes for Opti and found that not everyone is so ecstatic.
Best wishes to you - sm

I'm so sorry this happened to you. I hope you'll find a great company very quickly....if there are any left, that is. Thank you for saving the rest of from wasting our time applying with Opti-Script.
You are misinformed about VR rate - anon
[ In Reply To ..]
The minimum SR rate is around 5.5 cpl, so you are definitely misinformed.
ESL account average - OptiMT
[ In Reply To ..]
I think the lowest I ever made once I learned the account was between $14 and $15, but I have made as much as $20 an hour on East Coast trauma account with all the ESL. I think most of the MTs who stay on the account have been there for several years, and although I can't say for sure, I don't believe they'd be staying for minimum wage. IMO
Similar experience - MT at Opti
[ In Reply To ..]
I have been at Opti-Script over 2 years and I also work on the toughest account. I would say it took me about 4 to 6 months to finally have a feel for the account. (I have 30 years of MT experience, almost all acute care.) I have gotten slower over the years in general so I make about what the above poster mentioned. Just like any account, once you get used to the mumblers they say the same things over and over. That being said, it never becomes "old hat" - always gotta be on my toes with this account.
The work is plentiful, there is access to older reports to look for phrases, they give samples and QA is very helpful with the feedback.
I have to agree - MT2
[ In Reply To ..]
I have been an acute care MT for about 12 years now with lots of ESL experience, but this is by far the absolute hardest account I have ever worked on. It will bring even the most experienced MT to tears. That's how bad it is. I struggle so much to make a decent line count because of the degree of ESLs. I have asked to be moved to a different account, but there aren't any open slots on any of their other accounts and there probably won't be for a while, so I'm currently looking for another job. I agree with the above poster in that you'd be much better off making 7 cpl working on an easier account where you can actually build up speed and make a decent paycheck. The higher line rate here really doesn't mean anything if you struggle just to make 100 lines an hour because you can't even understand the dictators. I really don't want to leave Opti-Script as they truly are a great company and treat their MTs very well; however, I need to be able to eat and pay my bills, which I'm not able to do on this account. If this is the account that you're on the waiting list for, it's SO not worth it.
So sorry - anon

you are going through such an experience. Maybe something else will come up for you soon. Is there a certain line count you have to meet daily? Or do you just work certain hours?

I worked for them for years (a few years ago), and they were absolutely wonderful. I found them to be fair and honest, and I did not have a problem with running out of work. I myself had to leave for health-related problems, but would not have left them otherwise. I believe you would be happy there.
