Zylomed - Amount of work? - llr

Posted: Aug 06, 2010

I recently started with Zylomed and I am a 'floater'.  Does anyone have any experience with this company and if there is enough work as a floater?  I am trying to decide if I want to keep doing this or just take on some accounts that would be my own.

Thanx!! (:

I have a cousin who works in a Drs office that uses this company. She says there are often errors in their transcription. Maybe this will give you a chance to shine, or run!

Being a floater... - anon

I don't know your personal situation, but this is just my opinion on the subject. Being a floater has pros and cons...

Pro: You can stick to working the hours you want to work better. You don't have to worry about working late at night (unless you want to) if your exclusive sent all his/her work in then.
Pro: You gain experience on a wide variety of accounts, which can possibly help you "climb Zylo's career ladder" later on in the future.
Pro: As mentioned above, you can shine. When your work on a particular account looks better than the MTs work who usually types on the account, your AM (as well as the client) will definitely take notice! :)

Con: Since you do not have any exclusives to type for, you usually get stuck typing the work no one wants to do...
Con: Since most of the docs on the accounts are given out as exclusives, you have trouble finding enough work throughout the day to keep you busy enough to get a good line count... This is the worst during the summer months, as it gets slow for everyone due to doc vacations, etc.

I needed to work during 1st shift hours, and having exclusives to type for did not work out for me, as they were always sending their work in the evening. (Zylo has no control over what time the docs send in their work.) The amount of work they sent in was too much to wait to do the next morning in order to get it done by TAT. Therefore, I ended up having to work 2nd shift hours all the time, which did not meet my family's needs. Therefore, being a floater worked out much better for me in this regard, and the pros outweighed the cons.

HTH!

That is my worry... - llr

I am worried about scrounging for work all the time and not being able to average 800 lines/day (or getting stuck with all ESL docs...)

May I ask what your line count is usually? Do you have trouble getting work? Is it all ESL?

Thank you for your response. I really do appreciate it.

Floating - MissB

I was a with them very briefly after the company I IC'd for numerous years outsourced. Unfortunately, I was hired during some political issues within management but had the opportunity to float during that time. I honestly got the bottom of the barrel while floating unless someone who had a great dictator as an exclusive was out on vacation or was ill, but fortunately, I didn't mind taking ESLs or difficult dictators because I felt that it helped me become a better MT and was in hopes that it would help prove my willingness to do difficult work when no one else would. Generally speaking, though, there was always work available. There were pros and cons to working with Zylomed as with any company. My cons were on a personal level (i.e. promotion of inexperienced management) but to be fair, I found that while working for them, their pay is very competitive, and they pay on time. A big plus to floating, though, would be differential cpl for difficult dictators, so keep that in mind. They are very fair about paying a higher line rate for difficult physicians. Email if you have any questions! Much luck to you!

Same Amount Of Work, Less Pay?
Dec 04, 2013

Does anyone else suspect their company is fiddling with the software, thereby paying less to MTs for the same amount of work?  I switched accounts last summer, within the same company, to a hospital that pays more, sure that my pay would increase.  Lo and behold, I just noticed on my paycheck that I'll make about 5,000 to 8,000 less this year than last, and, if anything, I'm working more hours.  Truly infuriating because there is no way to prove it. ...

VR At Zylomed?
Nov 08, 2011

I work for ZM and love it there, but we were recently acquired by Accentus and I hear they are big on VR.  Also, the last Emdat update I took showed MModal Editor, which was not in the previous version, so I am wondering if this is the first step to VR at ZM, too.  Just wondered if anyone has any credible information on this.  I would ask my team lead or manager but I do not want it to appear that I may look elsewhere if this is the case, and I am sure they would think that initia ...

Has anyone on the clinic side (Formerly Zylomed) of things heard anything at all about some of the things posted here on the Nuance board?  Also, other questions are: 1) The only thing I've been hearing for months is that things "on our side" (meaning the Formerly Zylomed folks) will stay the same - that we'll keep our own exclusives, etc.  Has anyone else heard that or heard anything different?  2)  Does anyone know what will become of current ICs?  Will the ...

I Have No Patience For The Amount Of Corrections Needed Today!
Oct 12, 2013

I swear the speech engine just makes up the output as it has no resemblence to what the doctor says! We got a note stating we were making too many errors and our quality had gone down, with a side note that QAM knows we are struggling to maintain our counts, but this does not matter. Every once in a while I get told to slow down. Heck,I doing the best with what I have and the fatigue of doing this all day. Only minor errors such as leaving in an extra pronoun or such. I don't ...
