It is amazing that more people are not committing suicide. I guess that goes to the underlying optimism that human beings are inherently born with. We always think there is good in all people and that we will be protected from evil.

But, what happened to an honest day’s work for an honest day’s pay? Every day there are posts about people working hard for their paltry wages, only to be paid late or not paid at all. We cannot even apply for a job without worrying that it is a scam anymore. What has happened to this world?

There were 2 job ads on the Job Seeker’s Board that were questionable, I guess, because the Moderator deleted them both. Now, the EXACT SAME AD is back on the Job Seeker’s Board, but with a different contact name and different E-Mail. They are so lazy they did not change one word of the ad. I guess they figured because the Moderator had deleted them, no one would notice that the ad was exactly the same as the one that had been deleted.

There is also now a sticky note by the Moderator stating that the US DOL is looking for information about a company.

Yes, I am depressed and I think I have every right to be. Not only are these companies consistently making it impossible to make a decent wage, now we cannot even apply for a job without wondering if we are falling for a scam.

I only have 2 years until I qualify for Social Security, but I fully intended to work until I could no longer hit the keys or see the screen. Now, all I want to do is find a place to curl up and hide for 2 years, then apply for Social Security. At least then I will know for sure that I will have a roof over my head (as long as Social Security stays solvent – even that is questionable at this time).

What is wrong with this country when a hardworking person cannot pay their bills even while living modestly?

I am so depressed I am practically catatonic. Sole provider who has done this work since I was 19 and I am over 50 years of age now. What can I do besides this? Nothing that I would enjoy. When I was young, I remember going door to door at local doctor's offices and always finding a gig. Or the newspaper classified would have at least 4 jobs everyday listed.

What happened is AAMT or ADHI has added the outsourcing of our career to a foreign country, whose wages we cannot compete with.

I knew voice recognition would be an issue but never considered that the organization I was so proud to be a member of would sell me out.

I don't know what to do really. I have gotten a room mate, have lost over 20 pounds from eating the rice and bean diet, nearly lost the house but thanks to not paying any other bills, still have it.

I just hope no one does anything silly. You know, I was 3 days late paying my Comcast bill and in a relatively new job, when my internet went out. I had long before that lost my cell and had to walk to a pay phone to call my lead. It took all I had to not throw myself in front of a bus because I was certain I'd be fired. I was written up (for not contacting the office every 4 hours) but thankfully, I am still with them a year later.

So, hang on and hope on. Depression is scary to me so I understand how you feel.

I also started in this medical field at 19, but I still have another 15 years to go before I can even think of retiring. I used to make about $3500 a month, then economy started going south, there went the accounts that I had worked on for over 10 years, 3 months with no work finally landed something with this company and their "wonderful platform." First paycheck comes after killing myself 6 days a week, pulling no less than 130 minutes each day, to get a biweekly check for $900 before taxes. A month later, "we are going VR" and there went $300 from my check. I can barely make ends meet. I've been looking for another job, but so far they pay is so low that it would be making the same measly check I'm making now. I can only say that I sit here with my head pounding thinking what my check is going to be this next pay period as the work has been a bit on the slow side. I think I'm going to go and drown my sorrows in that gallon of double brownie fudge ice cream... x.x

. . . some of this Nuance work is just god-awful; and yet they wonder why it's out of TAT even when they offer extra hours? Really? I really want opinions about this. There is a dictator where I am constantly having to put a QA note that says to "copy and paste from previous report, or copy and paste from such and such". I think it takes away from my editing , especially if I have to go in and do several of them back to back during a shift. In all the conferences, we are told that the work that is being outsourced to India (30% of our work) is 3rd shift and weekends because American MTs don't want to work those times. Can somebody PLEASE explain to me why that seems to be when there is the most work. I do not work for any service currently, but it seems that the general complaint I hear on this site is about the pay. I just wonder how many of those satisfied with the pay are the sole breadwinner in the family and how many have a significant other's income to help pay the bills. I know I would have difficulty making ends meet on less than $40,000 per year. Is that possible at any of the big companies (the average, not the exception)?
