Webmedx pay better than most - MHD-Wmxr

Posted: Oct 16, 2010

I know a lot of MTs and I keep getting calls to get on MTStars and read the latest bashing of Webmedx.  So when I finished work today I decided to do just that.  To hear all of your complaints I wonder if this is the same company I've been working for all these years.

I've been editing since ISR started with them and it took me about a year to make up and at times exceed where I was.  Now I prefer ISR.

The long and the short of it is that as long as Webmedx keeps in place their current incentive program, that includes all lines typed or VR, you will not find better pay at any other MTSO.  Not to mention their pay is always on time and they don't off-shore.

They had to lay off some people because of the loss of a large account, this hurts everyone as they are obviously trying to reshuffle.  Companies lose accounts and gain accounts, but the main point is that you have a better chance at earning good pay at this company.

So flame away if it makes you feel better, but I know where the money really is!  BTW for those of you who will say I'm doing this as brownie points, it doesn't work that way at Webmedx.  The only points you get there is for showing up and doing your job right.Smile

Webmedx better than most - Thanks so much

I will use this post to fertilize my roses before winter...thats about all this piece of crap is good for!

webmedx pay - webbie

[ In Reply To ..]
Well,I guess I will be flamed as well, and I have had concerns about the recent lay offs and lack of work. I feel bad for those let go and the manner in which it was done, and also I am concerned about the recent lack of communication when we are all worried about this.

Now, having said that, I used to LOVE to work for this company. My concerns are only recent, and I am still hoping this is due to recent account losses and will be rectified.

I started looking around at other companies with all of this concern over Webmedx, and you are totally correct, with the incentive pay you can do quite well, much better than most other companies. The ISR rate is several cents higher than many other companies, and then you can get it up several cents more with incentive pay. Now, when I first started I was averaging quite low, but that was due to learning Enterprise and learning my accounts. Now I am averaging $18 to 20/hour and sometimes more now that I have a gazillion SH entries to help with editing, etc. I still am concerned with recent events, but I don't want to jump ship yet either!

Thanks for posting, MHD. My own experience bears out - Poppy

what you and Webbie say. People raking in the upper 2 tiers of incentive pay make pretty darned good money here.

I've been participating in the discusions below - sm

I do like my job. I love my job when I have work. I understand the need to examine work flows, see which accounts need more help and which have slowed and don't need the help. I hope it works and that they can find a place for me. I don't want to be laid off, but I am sincerely thinking that is what is going to happen.

I am not the fastest MT out there, but I can get to the 2nd bonus tier consistently WHEN I HAVE WORK. (This is straight typing since, although my now-gone secondary accounts had VR, my primary didn't, and I haven't been "cleared" for getting VR work even though I have no problem doing VR). Even with the differential for part of my shift and the bonus pay, I still make about the same hourly wage at my part-time job.

That being said, I haven't been able to get a full 40 hours in since the beginning of the summer. I work a part-time job during the day and 2nd shift at WMX. It gets a little difficult to flex under those conditions, but I still work straight through, don't sign out for dinner, and try to put in an extra hour at the end of my shift to help make up for Saturdays when I may only have 2 hours worth of work.

Of course, if I could regularly flex to the daytime, there isn't any work in my accounts; other MTs are flexing into my scheduled work time because that's when there is actually work. I was hoping it would improve this week, but this has been the worst week yet for me. Maybe tomorrow I can make up the 10 hours I'm short...hasn't worked in past months, but I can continue to dream.

I'm not trying to flame; I'm just extremely frustrated at this point. I wish I were you. I wish I had accounts with work. I want to advance beyond my clinic accounts. I want to go to work and make more per hour than I do in a stinking retail job that anyone could do. Truly, as I have stated before, I like my job. I like the people I work with. I have no other problems with WMX, I just don't have any work.

Just wanted to add a note about my base pay - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
My base pay is probably significantly lower than many who have been there a while or who were hired with experience. I was lucky enough to be able to test and to be hired as a newbie. Part of my frustration comes from the fact that my starting pay was not what I was hoping for or was told it would be when discussing the position with the recruiter. I was willing to suck it up and work my way up the payscale because I was a newbie and I really wanted to work for WMX.

Just sayin' that there are some out there whose base pay is still under $0.07 a line.

webmedx pay - webbie

[ In Reply To ..]
I am so sorry for the situation you are in. I am more fortunate, in that my accounts have had much more work, especially since the work pool changes.

I wanted to say also that if you are consistently making it to the 2nd tier on straight typing, you are doing great, especially as a newbie! Don't put yourself down! And actually that pay is not bad for being new. It sounds like you are doing great! I have been doing this 20 years, so I am not spending as much time looking things up anymore (I still have my days though, believe me!) Depending on your relationship with your stm, I would recommend asking what you need to do to be cleared for ISR, but I would probably wait a week for the dust to settle after the changing of the work pools. I will pray for you and that this all gets straightened around! I really really hope that they start communicating more with us, that is why most of us are feeling really insecure! And not more communication of the company line...but some truth about our current status!
Thanks--I do hope next week is better! - nm

Agree with Webbie yet again. It sounds as if you are - Poppy
[ In Reply To ..]
doing VERY well and are certainly ready for the next stage.

Many of the rest of us are flexing like crazy these days also, including me. I know it can be hard income-wise, and it sounds as if you're already doing this anyway, but given you want to survive any possible layoffs, I would recommend making it for sure your primary job right now. Those people coming in and cleaning out your account are finding some work or they wouldn't be there.

Also, definitely talk to your STM if you are not already and separate yourself out from those who do not. Tell him or her how you've progressed and are eager to progress more, how hard you are working to do well, how much you like WMX and want to continue to advance with this company. There was mention of new accounts in the works a few weeks ago, so after just getting through this period you'll likely be in a much better position. Good luck!
Thank you both Webbie and Poppy for the encouragement. - sm

Poppy, your advice about making myself more visible, so to speak, is something I told myself I definitely need to do, especially with a new STM. I tend to be one of those quiet ones IRL, and working at home makes it all the more important to speak up. :)

If there's no work, who cares what they pay. I agree they offer a higher line count, but after sitting for a month with no work, it wouldn't have mattered if I was being paid 1.00 a line.

Agreed about the pay and it being a good company - But

[ In Reply To ..]
I don't feel I am bashing or flaming them if I question what is going on lately, do you? Also, you have not shared what, if any, issues you personally have had recently. Are you somehow untouched by all this, i.e. are your accounts still rolling out the work?

6 times that with incentive. I did have to scramble all 2 weeks to find work AND work harder and longer than I like on backup accounts I'm not really familiar with. Keep up that positive attitude, though; it's at least saving you from what it takes to get in 20K lines or so.

Right, it is the MT's fault that there is no work - Typical management spin
[ In Reply To ..]
Nobody is buying that. 12 cents per line? LOL LOL LOL!!!! MTs are not as stupid as you would like to believe.

Attitude has nothing to do with making work appear. That is management's job. Don't you think it is about time you did YOUR job and earned that 6-figure income you gave yourself off OUR backs?

Ok guys...I am NOT management and have real concerns as well with what has been going on, and have posted these. However, some of the claims made here against Webmedx are just over the top and can make others not take any of our complaints seriously. I have not heard anywhere (except India) where the pay is 2 cpl. I am at the top tier and get the extra pay for CMT, and I regularly make 8500 and sometimes 9500 lines/pay period. This puts me at 10 to 11 cpl on straight typing. If you can make that very top tier (I have never attained that!) then yes, 12 cpl would be the pay. I still spend too much time looking up physicians for cc, researching new terms, double checking multiple account specs to reach that level, but for flying fingers it is possible!
ASR, Trx, and LOTS of ESL. Keep your heads in the sand, if you wish. - I would not care for the view personally. SkdMT
[ In Reply To ..]
If you refuse to realize others are doing well, the lesson that success is attainable--by you--is totally wasted.

But here's another try. Since you don't believe me, go look at the production metrics posted for all of us on the company page. I'm there but not among the very top-tier producers.

Volumes don't lie, just the humans do - Does the plot thicken???

[ In Reply To ..]
Not so dramatic when it seems work volumes are a bit nonexistant, perhaps? I would sincerely like to know which Webmedx these more fortunate MTs work at, and under which STM. It seems quite infuriating that some are not touched at all by this plague, while others are being decimated as I type. Now, I would venture to say what's truly dramatic is this glaring discrepancy in plague victims. Either the plot thickens or we have some well-placed attempts at damage control.
MTs are humans too, and some humans try harder than others. - Add in that factor, too. SM. SkdMT
[ In Reply To ..]
I don't have special accounts at all, or special rates, and the accounts I share with many have been very slow and are always heavy on ESR. The rate cut in ASR hurt me badly. I had many macros to speed up the old platform, so the new platform's greater efficiency did not begin to make up for the pay cut for me.

So when I make money, the special differentiating factors are the skill, hard work, and time I bring to the job. When I let any one of them relax, my income drops like a rock.

I haven't noticed anyone saying it's easy, certainly not me, just possible. That's the message.

Excellent points. Nice to read a well-balanced post. - WMXMT

I am also an MT and happy at Webmedx. It's not perfect, but neither am I.

Webmedx pay - gagme

[ In Reply To ..]
Doesn't really matter what they pay if there is no work to do, eh? Something is up, and they ain't talking. You can bet it is not good for "us." It is a known fact they frequent this board. This board has even been mentioned in a conference call by Cannon himself. They know the natives are restless. They are well aware we have questions about what is up, where did the work go all of a sudden? They aren't answering. They don't care, and whatever is up is not going to be beneficial to us. I've had my own suspicions for quite some time. A quick Google search, and I came up with this.

"Currently in use at several Webmedx customer sites, the ability for physicians to capture documentation using front-end voice recognition and then self-edit their work reduces costs by 60% for every transcribed report. âEvery document created using front-end speech recognition saves the organization money while also keeping physicians in total control of their workflow,â mentions Chris Cashwell, Vice President, Webmedx. Furthermore, discrete data is codified and mined from speech-generated reports for upload into electronic health records (EHRs) to support meaningful use and core measures quality reporting requirements."

I think they are really pushing this EMR and have been implementing it at more and more facilities, thus, no need for us. Obviously, they're not going to tell us that while they still need us. I also believe their ultimate goal is to get rid of all of us, or as many as they can. They sell their EMR, make oodles of money, don't have to pay MTs and that is that.

Well maybe they need to do another - RIF

[ In Reply To ..]
Do you think they are trying to avoid people being able to get UI? I am beginning to think that those let go last month were the lucky ones. The scenario above with the EMR would still involve retaining some MTs, wouldn't it? I do like working for Webmedx, when there's work. I find it extremely annoying that they steadfastly refuse to address the issue at all. Webmedx, you listening? Take my job, please. Just don't say I have a job when it's not really a job if there's no work, and please, please, EXPLAIN YOURSELF...

I actually posted the link to that article a few weeks back. One of my accounts has gone to this, just starting, and for now just a few physicians are on board. And no, once the physicians are trained, NO MT is needed. What is happening on my account is that certain physicians are participating at this point, and the report goes back to them. They then edit or make changes themselves. At this point, there is the option for them to throw it back in the pool to us (probably when the ASR is really awful). When we get these reports they have kicked back to us, often no demographic data has been entered and they are nightmares. Lately I have not had any though, so maybe the physicians are doing all their own editing now? That is the planned outcome from what I can see, and that would not include any MT in this loop.

I guess we know why they are not telling us much now. I am interested to read (above) that you find you have enough work, at least at times. Just wondering if/how they have explained why you are training the doctors to make our work obsolete, and my guess is they have just not said anything, as per their usual. Can I assume you are on the E platform? I think that is the one mentioned in the article. Thanks for the info, I hadn't realized it was already there.

Yes, I am on Enterprise, and so far only 1 account that I am aware of at least, is on this. We got an e-mail announcing an "exciting new program" and I got a sick feeling in my stomach. Only positive info has been put out about this, and I believe there were less than 10 physicians listed that were participating at this point (but they were some of the big volume producers). This is my secondary account, and I haven't had an NSA message for about 3 weeks (but got close to running out yesterday). But, I work second shift so there is more work available. I am still hoping that this will only be on a small scale. Older docs and dictators with heavy ESL or bad dictating habits will probably not use this....but then of course what we are left transcribing is the BAADD. And this, in combination with the increased use of ISR, of course leads to less work (higher line counts with ISR, more work produced per MT, less work in pool). I am looking at entirely different vocations, taking some classes currently at my junior college, to update my prior professional skills before MT, and praying a lot! I think for the top tier MTs there will probably end up being work for the next few years at least, but long-term is concerning!

Your description is exactly correct. I just recently lost a job locally with a physician that slowly got trained with this in family practice and now he totally does this himself by clicking a stylet with each item and it puts the information in, creating a whole finished document just as if it had been fully typed by an MT. There is also no need for QA as it fixes itself to correct grammer and information. I would think some subspecialties may not be able to do this like letters, etc though but who knows. There is no room for an MT in the loop at all for this situation. Sad but true. Scary!! I know this is all true as I had personal experience with how it works.
