WMX - new version question - sm

Posted: Sep 08, 2010

I haven't trained yet for new versions but I think I read somewhere we no longer have to worry so  much about account specifics i.e. formatting for ROS, bolds or caps for headings.  This sounds good to me.  My main account is on indefinite hold for converting so would love to hear some positives from those already there.  TIA

I love it. Here is a recent discussion from mid August. - sm

WMX new version = new version of migraines - Emo

Well, if you like a slower system, straining your eyesight and getting a headache from the con's that outweigh the pro's of implementing a whole new system to attempt to tweak the untweakable, then I suppose you would enjoy it. I suspect those that "love it" are delusional.

It works very well for me. I did have to create a bunch of - Happy with NV

new macros to replace old ones and was initially afraid of running into glitches (I'm no hot shot about making these things), but, although the inevitable learning curved dragged it out, it mostly turned out pretty smooth. NV is designed to work well with expanders--in spite of its slowness in rolling out longer expansions.

You are going to love the new numbering and header functions, for sure. If you don't like long blocks of numbered text all bunched together (how do people expect busy clinicians to find info in those things?), you'll have to make a little effort to learn how to separate the number blocks from each other and paragraph within them, but it's doable. And you know that stupid conflict between the cursor and highlighter as you move around? Gone! There are a bunch of nice little improvements (some so tiny you only accidentally realize in passing), for instance, since almost all bolding is done by auto formatting in the headers (not by us), the problems caused by sloppy/wandering bold codes are essentially eliminated. And so on. Not perfect, but now I'd really hate to go back to the old version.

Emo, I'm not delusional. One thing that has not escaped me at all is that, since I had MANY macros that sped up the old version close to what the new features in the new one accomplish, I have not seen an increase in my line count adequate to offset the pay cut for SR. Although a significant problem for me, this does not arise from our new platform itself.

I have to say that I find NV better once I got up and running with some shortcuts to make it work for me. I am on the SH mail group, and many have posted SH entries to make it work easier. I have entries of h/ to convert any text to the left into a header, s/ to do the same making it subheader, etc Once you get a few of these down, I find that NV is superior, and I have just started to see line count increases, albeit after tweaking the system for 3 months now! I also have sh entries for copying 1-10 diagnoses when they say "same" for postop diagnosis. Please feel free to ask when you are on NV and I would be glad to help, and if you use SH, the SH group is great also

Actually, when software upgrades and "improvements" are rolled out, they should not only enhance production but maximize potential and experience. I have yet to see this with the new version simply regarding the seriously flawed visual experience. Detrimental to the backbone of production and sloppy to say the least. Even when zooming in, there is a very distracting quality to the letters as they are typed. I can become accustomed to anything, except headaches! Also, the new version has the 1 space only (no more 2 spaces) after punctuation automatically overriding what the MT types (saving them $). Audio is also inferior, more capability with the old Enterprise audio versus the new version audio. Again, putting a strain on quality and production capabilities. Wmx software engineers need to go back to school on this extreme disappointment of an "upgrade."
Don't forget, 1 space is the client's decision; and yes, they - Anon.

are OF COURSE trying to save money in a good place since 2 spaces are not necessary to comprehension with proportionally spaced fonts. Money that can go to patient care.

And good news for traditionalists who hate change: single space is the real, genuine, OLD traditional way of doing it, before 2 spaces had its day; and for Old World faddies, most of Europe never left the single space.

Most particularly, this is happening everywhere, not just in our field.

Squinter, I do wear special-made bifocals at my desk (the larger lower portion is just right for the screen, with a smaller top to look out the window. The plain ones with line showing are very inexpensive. Maybe that's why the screen hasn't been bothering me.
Wow, every account decided on 1 space? Try again. nm - really?

They sure did not all decide on one space. The company gives them this BS trying to make them believe that it is a new industry standard--same thing with the ever changing BOS. Half the time they don't know what is being proposed and what they are agreeing to until they see the finished product and many are unhappy with the quality.

It sucks big time and in combination with M Modal, it's even worse than that if that is possible.

New Version/old Version WMX
Nov 27, 2010

I guess I am getting too old and not adapting as quick as I used to, but I find having accounts in both new and old a little confusing.  My mind and fingers don't want to switch about so easily.  This is just 2 weeks, hoping it gets more natural soon.  I think I only got my normal line count 2 days out of the training period.   I did quit doing that print preview so often.  Wow.  that is truly a time killer isn't it?  ...

Jan 19, 2012

I downloaded the new version of Smartype, and I need to figure out how you get something not to expand like say if you type pm and it expands it but you don't want it to.  The older version you could type the word and press the shift key while pressing the spacebar and it would not expand, but it does not work that way on this version.  I have no idea how to change the hotkey from the spacebar either.  I have looked through the help pages and can't find it.  ...

Is someone able to help me with playing .rm or .ra files in Express Scribe? I have tried everything to download one file into Express Scribe. I did it one time, then my free trial ran out, so I had to uninstall/re-install, and now I cannot find any version that allows these type of files. I have also tried a converter, but do not want to purchase one because this is for a test. So, I'm wondering if there is a certain version of ES that does allow these files? Version Of MS Word

Fluency For Transcription, Version 7.4
