Is anyone a statutory employee with Nuance? I was under the impression that I was an employee. I was sure we were told there would be no SE status available. However, I recently noticed on my pay stub that it says statutory. Does this benefit me or is it going to bite me? I have not paid self-employment tax for quite some time. I was told I was an employee, so I assumed all employment taxes were being paid. ...
I keep trying to find something definitive that spells out the differences between the two, but it all seems so vague or, at least, different companies seem to treat each differently.
Specifically, since my company recently converted everyone over to statutory status, can they require the employees to set and maintain a strict schedule as they had when they were full-time regular employees, or should/do the statutory employees have more leeway in that regard, more along the lines of an IC? ...
I'm seeing more and more job postings for statutory employee status. I'm trying to figure out what an appropriate line rate request equivalent would be since I would be responsible for withholding income taxes. For example if the traditional employee line rate is 8 cpl for transcription what would I need to request for statutory status? The same or more? ...
Got my packet today. Not a word about IC option. Has anyone been okayed to go ahead as IC status yet? It's obvious in all the calls that employee status is the big push and I wonder how easy they are going to make it to be an IC instead. ...
Does Transcend or ANY company pay for CMT status? I used to have this certification but it was never recognized. Wondered if things have changed. Thanks. ...
I'm a newbie at Transcend and find I like it more than expected based on board comments. I am also new to VR - and also find that I like that too!
My question is this, for any long-time Transcenders...I am nowhere near making the minimum $$ amount required for full-time status, which I was hired at. What happens after the 90 day trial period - Do you think I would be let go?? I would like to just be considered part-time at that point. ...
I haven't been to the boards for quite a while, but I was just googling to find out a current phone number for Transcend to put on a resume, and I saw about the lawsuit.
What's going on with this? Does anyone know? ...
Just exactly what does statutory employee status mean? I was recently changed from independent contractor to this? Never was that before, I don't quite understand it. Please help. Thanks in advance. ...
Could someone explain exactly what a company can require of an SE? Can companies force MTs to adhere to a schedule if all MTs are statutory employees? All the research I have done on this subject is vague, but it appears that SE and IC are almost the same with the exception of Social Security and Medicare being withheld and the employer's portion being paid for an SE. ...
I'm considering applying with DSG for a statutory positon. Does anyone know what they're like to work for? I'm wondering about rate of pay, availability of work, percentage of ESL, etc. Thanks. ...
Does a statutory employee receive a 1099 and able to claim independent contractor status at tax time? I've googled around and can't seem to find a definitive answer. If you can help answer this for me, thanks so much! ...
Can someone please explain the difference between an IC and a statutory employee, I have looked it up and am not clear. I understand that statutory employees get social security taken out, when ICs get nothing taken out, but what are the other differences?
Thanks. ...
I have been working as an IC for a while, but used to work as a SE where some taxes were taken out of my check and matched. The self-employment taxes are killing me! My federal income tax is minimal (have great deductions/credits while my kid is still little, but that isn't going to last forever).
Has statutory employee gone the way of the dinosaur in MT? It seems that I don't see any ads listing SE as an option. I'm not looking to change MTSOs or get names of s ...
I was one of the people originally with MDI who was sold to Transcend who was sold to Nuance. With MDI, we were statutory employees. When sold to Transcend, we were told repeatedly and often that statutory employee would no longer exist, that we were straight employees. Same with Nuance. Yet my pay stubs say statutory employee and zero federal tax was withheld all year; however, the statutory employee box on the W2 is not checked. So what does this mean?
How is it legal to be told we are straig ...
I noticed I had 19 hours of PTO, had this amount for the past couple of weeks. After this last payday, it's still the same 19 hours. I thought they added our PTO every PP? At least they did in the past, I'd always see approximately 6 hours added every PP. Is this yet something ELSE they are ripping us off for? ...
Hi. New to VR and just received an e-mail from a company I inquired at. They are paying 0.030 per line for VR editing for ICS. Is this really low or am I in another universere???!!! TX I haven't done VR - but straight transcription I average 200 LPH. I have no idea what I would make at this rate. Any info please! ...
If I accept a position as IC, what is the going cpl ? I realize I will have to pay employer and employee SS and Medicare, self-employment tax as well as federal. Not sure if I want to do this or stay as employee status. ...
I just saw an add for Medscribes in KY that says the job or position is IC status. Yet they give specific hours they want you to work. It was my understanding that IC status was you set your own hours more or less and also pay your own taxes, etc. Please clarify. ...
I got an email saying that I had passed the testing for MME but haven't heard anything from my TSM about what I should do next, anyone else in this situation?

What "really" happened to IC status? How did we turn into employees without benfits? I recall when IC was REALLY IC. I took a break and things had changed pretty drastically! We now are required to basically do "shift work," which I understand to a point, but it sure isn't the way it was!! I recall getting paid more because we did not get benefits, more for fast speakers and ESL--what happened to that?
I personally just dropped out for awhile, and a new ...
For anyone who has changed from full-time to part-time status, have you still been able to get time off when needed, and what exactly is meant by flexible part time (flexible for whom)? With all the recent changes, I am finding it necessary to begin heading in another direction. ...
I've worked for an MTSO for about nine years. Work is scarce, and I need to find another part-time job or maybe just leave and work full time. I don't know anything about IC. I see things like you are required to do your own taxes and can work the flexibility of what you want as long as you get the TAT. I know insurance is not covered in these positions. But how do you handle time off for vacations or personal days? Do you go on vacation and then com ...
