MME status - Robynne

I got an email saying that I had passed the testing for MME but haven't heard anything from my TSM about what I should do next, anyone else in this situation?
I would assume there's nothing else for you to do except - sm

wait for the ILP garbage to appear in your pool & watch your pay drop.

I had to wait a few days and then got an email to schedule a training session. I want to say it's about 4-5 hours (not bad). After you complete the training, it takes a few more days to get your pools set up to actually start. Congratulations for passing :)

That doesn't sound very promising. I'm already trying to provide for a family of 4 as it is with hardly any work! I thought it would help out.
Good luck with that. I did not buy into it. - anon

I have heard nothing good about becoming an MME as far as income goes so I ignored the opportunity. I hope it doesn't come back to bite all those who went for it.

Really? MMEs at times get extra incentive (more money an hour) when there is a lot of work. That is what is going on in my BOB right now. So don't listen to all of these negative about becoming an MME. Congratulations to you!
You must be joking ... that made me laugh! - MME2

I've been an MME for 5 years and I've never ONCE gotten an extra incentive - I don't even know what you're talking about.
As a single mom I have to earn $100 a day to keep food on my table and keep my bills paid. In order for me to make my bills as an MME earning $0.03 cpl I have to edit over 3300 lines a day.
Impossible. In all the years I've been an MME I haven't edited 3300 lines of text even once. I've had an awesome, killer day if I edit 2000. Here, I'll do the math for you, that's $60.00 a day. AND like I said - that's on a GOOD day.
Incentives? That literally made me laugh.

Do either of you recall if you can start the first part of the MME test (multiple choice), save it and then come back to it??
I waited about a week and then - justme

contacted my TSM, who said he hadn't heard anything about it but would look into it. Then I got an email from my QC to schedule training. I know someone else below said they're training was 4-5 hours, but mine was like 45 minutes with very little live demonstration. Good luck in your new position.

Have you seen a decrease in money like others have said?

I have not noted any decrease in money. I was originally given a raise, but when they did that whole cap thing, it was taken back because I was at the top of the pay scale. It's been a couple of years, so I'm not sure how things work now. I honestly don't get as much QA stuff as most other people seem to. I have never QA'd any ILPs, and very rarely any out of my BoB. I'm not sure why, but that's how it's been for me. Don't let all of the negativity here scare you. Try it out for a while, and if it doesn't work out for you, request to go back to MT only status. I know someone who did this, and it was not a problem.
Not really - justme

But it's too early to tell, haven't received a paycheck yet since I've become MME. But, based on my daily line counts, I seem to be making about the same. I'm hoping as I get faster at making edits, my counts may improve a bit. I can tell you that since moving into MME position, I have received almost exclusively QA work; I've done less than 10 editing or straight typing jobs in the last 5 days, and I've had less eye strain than with VR editing. Again, good luck with everything. Do what's right for you and don't listen to the naysayers/cynics. Look, I'm as unhappy as anybody with the downturn in our industry but trying to make the best of it and prepare for the future. God bless.
What to do next? Here, I have a suggestion... - anon

Brace yourself. Your "promotion" just put you on the fast track to going broke and feeding your family on food stamps. Whatever you were earning before? Kiss it goodbye. You'll be earning approximately HALF that now - on a GOOD day.

"IF" everyone becomes an MME and they get ". . . rid of" MT/ME employees there will be no need for MMEs. After all aren't the MMEs correcting the MT/ME employee work? Just my 2 cents about this.
Maybe not so flawed.. - SM

I'm betting they will be having the Indan workers be the MT/ME and MMEs will be the Americans cleaning it up.
I noticed I had 19 hours of PTO, had this amount for the past couple of weeks. After this last payday, it's still the same 19 hours. I thought they added our PTO every PP? At least they did in the past, I'd always see approximately 6 hours added every PP. Is this yet something ELSE they are ripping us off for? ...

What "really" happened to IC status? How did we turn into employees without benfits? I recall when IC was REALLY IC. I took a break and things had changed pretty drastically! We now are required to basically do "shift work," which I understand to a point, but it sure isn't the way it was!! I recall getting paid more because we did not get benefits, more for fast speakers and ESL--what happened to that?

I have just started a new job as an IC. I have been an employee and statutory employee but never IC. I know I pay quarterly taxes and have had them set up by my accountant. Can anyone give me the link to this site? Thanks very much! ...
I have 2 accounts, who only dictate once a month. I work for someone who has lost a lot of their work, and so I can't count on them as before. I am puzzled by the posts of companies on this website seeking independent contractors, and then proceed to dictate the hours and days they need you to work. Just for you know what and giggles, I did a status check on my area in DocQManage. I got a shcok when I saw that one of my accounts had 116 awaiting to be collected with 15 of those being late! I have goggling about MT and India and lo and behold, the Indians are not very happy either. They're complaining about their low pay also! ...
