Transcend Ped Account (sm) - ScoobieDoo

Posted: Oct 22, 2010

Does anybody know the latest regarding this ped account with Transcend?

Wonder what the pay is and the hours?

My guess is it must be a horrible account, as they have had a lot of ads for it.

On a more positive note, maybe it's just a huge account, and they need lots of help!

love it - mtmom

It is actually a fantastic account with great dictators; however, the client is very picky and there are a lot of account specifics. This is why only top-notch MTs are put on this account; the ones that are below average are quickly weeded out. I cannot comment on the pay and, as far as hours go, you are required to work 1 weekend day.

Cool! I am seriously thinking of applying! Thanks! :) nm - ScoobieDoo

Is this the pediatrics account that came with the MDI-MD merger? - Loved that account

[ In Reply To ..]
Before the merger, I worked on a very large pediatrics client out of FL and just loved it. The dictators were largely very good and the reports were great linemakers.

Peds accountS with Transcend - Rachael Herman

Hello!!

Gone are the rumors that Medical Transcription is just a hobby!! We are Pediatric CARE Certified Medical Language Specialists and we are looking for more career-oriented, enthusiastic individuals just like us!!!

Transcend is offering some exciting new opportunities for highly-qualified Medical Language Specialists (MLS) on our Pediatric accounts. We currently have 1 very large account that is in need of staffing due to the extraordinarily high volumes, as well as several other large children's hospitals that are in line to get started with us shortly. These clients REQUIRE that all MLS working on their accounts are Transcend Pediatric CARE Specialist (TPCS) Certified.

This is an extensive program in which the MLS undergoes comprehensive and instructional training with a TPCS certified mentor/trainer and will receive thorough feedback and guidance throughout their career in the pediatric field.

Once the MLS shows quality at 98.5% or higher, they will be asked to take the Pediatric Certification exams online. Once those exams are passed, they are able to print their certificate right there, which is now their "ticket" into the pediatric account with Transcend, not to mention a "trophy" that can be framed and hung on your office wall!!!

All members of the pediatric teams require not only certification, but consistently high quality scores on quarterly audits, as well as continuing education credits earned through our phone conferences with various specialists in the pediatric and transcription fields.

This is not just a job to us. This is our pride and joy, "Our Kids," and we strive for the highest quality and the best TAT in the industry for these special patients of ours.

These opportunities are for very large and prestigious children's hospitals (some of which are teaching hospitals) who demand the best of the best. If you fit the criteria, have very high attention to detail, are ambitious and hard-working, please check out our openings on the www.transcendservices.com website under the Careers Tab. You will be required to take a short exam there to test your English and Medical terminology. We only accept applicants with the highest scores for these particular accounts.

If you have any further questions, please go to that website and contact our recruiters by applying to one of the positions.

We look forward to hearing from you!!!

Does "The Best TAT in the Industry" mean the accounts are grossly overstaffed? - Just saying...

[ In Reply To ..]
Yeah, a pretty certificate framed above our at-home desks doesn't pay our bills if the account is overstaffed to the point of constantly being out of work.

Nice pep talk of a post, though. If I didn't know any better, I'd probably be applying at this very moment.

But, alas, I do know better from the numerous Transcenders out of work who post here.

That's what I just don't understand. - sm

Transcend keeps hiring for this pediatric account, yet there are a ton of MTs going without work. Why don't they test them...or at least TRAIN them for this huge pediatric account that has tons of work? I see red flags all over the place if a company will keep hiring when others in their own company are without work.

[ In Reply To ..]
Actually... the accounts are grossly understaffed, but that's okay...we only need the best of the best team players... People who understand the industry always has it's ups and downs and it's very important to learn all aspects of the transcription world in order to ensure your own job security.

We all know that we can't count on anyone else to secure our jobs but ourselves. :)
good answer!! Proud to be a part of the team! - no message

They are not overstaffed and there is plenty to go around. Plus, new accounts just around the corner. Seriously.

Trust Me, and others, I'm staying put for now, but wondering - Anonny

is pediatric urgent care as a specialty so different that experienced can't settle in fairly easily? I've done a fair amount of pediatrics in the past and was very intrigued when I found this was being developed as an MT/ME subspecialty with its own certificate. Perhaps mostly an MTSO marketing strategy aimed at that very large group of pediatric hospitals or...?
That's exactly what it is. A marketing strategy. - Certified by who?
[ In Reply To ..]
Transcend? You get to print out your own certification and "big trophy?" IMO, a "medical language specialist" should already be able to produce at 98.5% quality without having to hang self-printed Transcend trophy on their wall.

It's a marketing ploy.
Absolutely agree - Means nothing to other MTSOs
[ In Reply To ..]
I'm pretty sure being "certified" by Transcend to do Pediatric work won't mean diddly squat to another MTSO. They expect multispecialty clinic and acute care MTs to ALREADY be familiar enough with terminology to handle pediatric phrases or any other subspecialty.

Agree 100% with you...total marketing ploy and probably a way to NOT transition other MTs onto the account as they aren't "certified."

Reminds of the newbies fresh out of school who are misled into believing they are CMTs because they're "certified," which means essentially nothing. Just a marketing ploy, just like this "certification" by Transcend.
Of course its a marketing strategy - works there now
[ In Reply To ..]
... but obviously one that is working since they just got two big pediatric contracts. I mean think about it. Why not specialize a large part of your work force in the pediatric specialty and then go after entire groups of children's hospitals. Makes sense to me. So what if it is a certificate you print out yourself, if you're working on an account that has plenty to go around !! I've been on the peds account since the merge took place and haven't run out of work yet !!
How much is the pay on the peds account? - nm

Thank you, "WorksThereNow." Regarding other comments, - Anonny
[ In Reply To ..]
to be fair, I have seen a couple of job ads, not Transcend's, that specified pediatric specialty experience. It was clear from the wording that they did not want my years of acute care including occasional pediatrics. Now that I think of it, it's also been some while since I did anything from a pediatric ward.

The marketing value is obvious, of course, as is the value of that super-giant organizaiton of hospitals, so I was just wondering ALSO if pediatric labs, etc., have become specialized enough that I could no longer handle it routinely along with everything else. A day on new-hire QA or a week?
New Hire QA - works there now
[ In Reply To ..]
really depends on how quickly you pick up the protocols. No set time frame. I think they are anxious to get you working on your own, so how fast you progress through the "training" process will depend totally on you. This is totally the real deal. They aren't going to be hiring forever. The work is there, more work is coming. I can only speak from my own experience. I came in with the merger, have been on the peds account the entire time, even before the merger, and have been one happy camper. They just sent out a notice a while back that they have 2 big peds accounts on the way. So, I guess the choice is yours.
so what if it IS a marketing tool??? - it will bring in more accounts!!
[ In Reply To ..]
I'd much rather be part of a smartly-run company that can recognize what the customer wants and fill the need in a way that brings more work to the MT or MLS, rather than a company that just clings to the status quo and cannot compete in the job market well enough to keep the MT working. Yeah, a certificate means little to me too, but the smart company that has plenty of work, now that means something! and these clients are so particular that specialists who are certified to THEIR wants and needs DO make a difference in their choice of MTSO. So scream foul all you want; meanwhile, we'll be working and earning that fat 'ol paycheck.
Think down the road. Have you read Transcend's - mission statement?
[ In Reply To ..]
Are you familiar with their goal regarding offshoring? When MDI came over to Transcend, they had a conference call describing the goals of Transcend. One of them was to increase their use of offshore partners by 30% within the next year and They also want to be 100% VR with the clients wanting these services.

You're exactly right. They are a smartly-run company, but not with your best interests at heart. Enjoy that fat ol' paycheck now. They're using the marketing ploy to get more pediatric accounts to feed their offshoring partners and migrate accounts to VR.
Have OS edit VR?? Have they seen OS work? THey dont know - English but suits think they can unravel VR?? nm

MQ does it every day - And Transcend is Mini-Q
[ In Reply To ..]
Why WOULDN'T Transcend offshore VR work? To my knowledge, they already offshore VR work. Offshoring pediatric VR work just makes Transcend more money. In actuality, you're likely training the VR system right now, so, as the above poster said, enjoy that fat ol' paychecks NOW, because they can (and likely will) disappear in the stroke of a key.
You know ... - works there now
[ In Reply To ..]
.. it's like they say, you can't please all the people all the time. Yes, I've read their mission statement. Do you also realize how many American companies carry the same mission statement and divide their work force. I'm not trying to make any false statements or make anyone a Transcend "convert." I am just saying that I read a lot of times on this board where a lot of my colleagues are without work, and I can honestly say that in the whole time I have worked on this account I have never been a day without work. I can't predict the future any more than anyone else can and I wouldn't even try ... all I know is I get a pretty nice pay deposited in my bank account twice a month and I am certainly not gonna turn my back on that.
I honestly dont think anyone expects you to turn your back on it - Just dont become oblivious or too comfortable
[ In Reply To ..]
Because Transcend is infamous for offshoring as much as possible and you could in the blink of an eye find yourself like other Transcend MTs, posting on here wondering where in the world all of your work went.

Enjoy your nice-sized deposits, yes, by all means...but don't get TOO comfortable or become oblivious to what is likely inevitable with Transcend.
I'm not oblivious - works there now

and I would never blind myself to the fact that things can change no matter where you work or who you work for, especially in this ever-changing economy. I'm 50+ years old and have been working in this industry for a very long time. All I am telling you is that I think this is a very smart marketing strategy and one that seems to be working in their favor. The company has been very good to me so far, and I'll ride the train until it pulls into the station. To be quite honest with you, it is not even the offshoring that scares me or Transcend as a company. It's the whole lean of our industry toward EMR and trying to replace the human worker as a whole. I don't think it is the offshore partner we need to watch .. I think it is technology. Take that along with a sinking economy and hard to find jobs in every arena, and I will say I'm glad to get up every morning and see work !! I wish every single one of us the best and, would I recommend anyone reaching out for these peds positions, yes I would. Would I guarantee it will last forever ... well, if I could I certainly wouldn't be sitting here typing, I'd be off walking on water somewhere !!

Of course it's a marketing ploy... isn't that what business competition is? I don't understand why that would be looked at as a bad thing. It gives us the leading edge in this industry and, yes, it has gotten us a lot of respect and business across the nation.

Even if it is "just" certified by Transcend... we're the 2nd largest company in the industry... not to mention this is a brand new certification process. How do you think the "CMT" was created? Just saying...

Ms. Herman is correct. I work there too. - sm

[ In Reply To ..]
I see on status reports the volume that is there on this and other accounts. And I know particulars about the account requirements and it has everything to do with client specifics which differ vastly from other accounts. You all can carry on here, professing to know what goes on at Transcend based upon some posts you see, or you can believe it from those of us who work there. If you need a job, this is a sound company and though big, very personal and caring, IN MY EXPERIENCE. Transcend is holding out the golden ring, and you can either reach for it, or sit back and say it is impossible or doesn't exist.

Well said... - Rachael

[ In Reply To ..]
Here here! Beautifully put. Those of the MLSs that currently work on the account with me and are certified know exactly what I'm talking about... I'm no joke and neither is the certification, as proven by the 4 big children's hospitals we have. I take this account and certification seriously and go to bat for my people when and if I need to. Some may not have pride in their knowledge or work, and most don't understand what it really means to work in the specialty of pediatrics, which is vastly different from adult medicine.

This company has made great strides in regards to competition and business gains. I'm proud to be a part of Transcend and will continue to happily place my name on the posts that defend them.

I notice in your ad you do not mention that MTs are HIRED after this long process and at what expense to them! Do you "guarantee" employment and reimbursement? I doubt it otherwise, you would have stated so. No thanks! I am not putting out money for anything. If you want "trained, certification" you PAY, we have enough to pay for with our low wages.

Grudge much? - Rachael

[ In Reply To ..]
Who can guarantee employment? If you don't have good quality, why would we keep you on a high-quality, prestigious account? Not sure what you're getting at, but it seems to me like you are unhappy in this field and should maybe think about changing careers since the changes in this industry make you angry so...

Show me the company that "guarantees" employment, please.

Just wondering .... - works there now

[ In Reply To ..]
what you feel you would be "putting out money" for. We are encouraged, if we already have another job or another account we are working on, to continue working during the entire restricted "training process," and once you are released from the training process, you are encouraged to go full speed ahead and earn as much as you can handle. So, if you already have a job you can keep on earning. If you are not employed yet, you are working towards gainful employment. The certification comes after the training process. You are given ADEQUATE study material and adequate time to "prove your skills." So, it's a win-win situation. You get a job and the account gets a skilled pediatric MLS. If you have the skills, they have the work, it's that simple. They certainly are not going to put you through the process and not hire you just because they don't "feel like it." And there is absolutely NO MONEY out of your pocket involved. Time, yes. Money, no. And if you are looking for a good job, you have to willing to invest the time. Are you going to apply for a job ANYWHERE and tell them sorry, I don't have time for a training process??

Like I said earlier, your progression through the restricted training program depends ONLY ON YOU !! There is detailed help and feedback along the way with a goal of getting you working on your own as soon as possible. They are not just going out and "hiring a bunch of people" either. They are going to adequately staff the account and then the door will close. So, if you're on the fence about it, I say think for YOURSELF and don't let all this negativity influence you. It's not like you can't quit if it all turns out to be a big fat lie, but 2+ years on the same account and still cooking !! And, do I wear a suit, I think not !! I'm sitting here in my PJs working away ... happy as a clam !!!
sounds like....... - justpeachey

a lot of management replying here. I do not know many MTs who work or have worked for Transcend have much good to say especially a whole page defending them. Seems like management needs to get a clue and realize how people are treated wrong and are leaving and instead of coming here and defending the company, making the company a better place to work so there isn't anything to defend!

I actually work on this pediatric account, have been through the certification process and I can say without hesitation that it is an awesome account with plenty of work. The certification process was very well done. There is a true team feel among the management, team lead, QA and MLS's. Everybody works together really, really well.
I've been in the transcription field for 20 years and have worked as an IC, employee, in every possible capacity and I can say without hesitation that I feel very fortunate to be a part of the Transcend team.
A positive attitude goes a long way in how successful anybody is with anything.
