Patient First Test - no idea - dictation pretty bad

Posted: Jan 17, 2015

I have no idea how I did because I don't know what they are looking for in their testing.  It is obvious they want to see how you handle difficult dictators.  I had to leave some blanks, which most companies would prefer you to do.  I just wonder how many people level several blanks in the test and still got hired?  I especially had to leave 2 or 3 blanks on the guy who whispers.  Turned the volume all the way up on my computer and still could not make out parts of his dictation with earbuds shoved in as far as they would go :)

You should do a search on the board regarding Patient First. So many have tried to take and pass their tests only to encounter big fat rejections. NO ONE knows how to pass their tests; some do make the cut, most don't. Good luck!

I will be completely honest here. I don't know how I passed the test. I had 3 dictations and I had blanks in 2 of them. I think I had 2 blanks in one and 1 blank in the other.

I think the most important thing is don't guess. At least that is what my lead said at the time. What parts I did get done were done correctly. They expect blanks because they do give you the worst dictators.

I was quite surprised when I got the phone call. I was sure I failed it.

I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

Evidently I passed PF test - Offered position

I took the test and found it to be no more difficult than ESL/operative reports that I've been typing for years. I did have to leave blanks, and I was surprised that they would use such poor sound quality dictation as a test. I'm not sure what the point of that would be. I have been contacted several times regarding a position, talked about details of pay, that I would have to travel there, use their computer. I think it would be an awesome job to have but currently I'm not in the position to take on a full-time employee status position. Now, what never came up in discussion or via email with the recruiter was things others have mentioned - a second testing once arriving at their office for training, and possibly not even getting hired. If I end up some day going back to them for a position, I will definitely ask them questions about that BEFORE I travel.

Anyway, for what it's worth, if you can get in, I believe it would be one of the best chances for having tons of work and a solid position. The person I spoke with has been there almost 20 years, loves the work and the company, and seemed very reassuring that, with their expansion, they will continue to hire. And, that they essentially never run out of work. The other positive info I can share is that she said that the powers that be seem to truly "get" that straight transcription vs voice wreck is the way it needs to stay.
Ok, I'm not very bright I guess, but can't find sm - anon

the page where you "click on" to take the test. I don't want to ask HR as I don't want to appear stupid. I did find it once but since it is long I guess (2 hours someone said), I wanted to be able to devote time just for the test. Please will anybody tell me the page (I have looked everywhere) where I can click on to take the test? I filled out the application but now need the test. Thank you to anyone who is willing to do that!

Patient First IS still hiring - More details to get to application
[ In Reply To ..]

The above poster is correct.  Here are even more details on how to get to the Patient First application. It is convoluted IMO!

At their website:
Click on Careers (at top of page)
Click on Careers (at left of page)
Click on Center and Admin Offices opportunities (left side of page)
Find this:  First time applicants.
Then click on: Search for open positions and apply online
Click on Administrative Offices

Find the first entry as such:
Dictation Training Specialist - Glen Allen, Va - FT    Full-time 40 Hours per week    1/23/2015    Richmond Administrative Offices

Click on that!
Scroll down to the very bottom and click on APPLY NOW.

Plan to have lots of time set aside to fill out the application and take the test.  From what I recall, once you are at a certain point, you will have the option to SAVE it, write down the pertinent info, and then you can go back to it.  (my memory may be a bit foggy here, but that's what I remember).

Hope this helps Laughing

This may be too late for you to see this, but you mention you are not in a position to do full time at the moment.

I thought I would let you know that, once you are through the 6 weeks or so of training, you can arrange your schedule however you like. Once you are fully up to speed, it really shouldn't take you more than about 4-5, some days 6 hours at most to get your work done. You are still considered full time and receive all full time benefits, but you can be finished for the day once you meet your line requirement. Also, since there is no schedule, you can come back at night or get up early and be finished by 10:00 a.m. every day if that suits you. You are not required to be there 8 hours a day or punch a clock.

Hope that helps if they call you again.
Thanks for hours info! - Another MT looking at PF

I have not applied or taken the test, but I am so glad to see all this info about PF. I have a decent job right now, but it could be gone quickly. I have been following all the threads about PF, and this was my last question - so thank you for mentioning how long it takes to make line count!

I'm in the middle of the transcription portion of the testing right now. Having worked for a chiro for the last 7 years I am I'm struggling quite a bit but I'm ready for a change so I'm hoping it will be worth it.

What About This Idea?
Apr 08, 2010

I would like to suggest that every unhappy MT at MQ jam the phone line(s) of Employee Assistance and share how the stress from working at MQ is affecting your health, your work, and your personal lives.  If this is supposed to be a benefit for all employees, then make it work for you by calling, one by one, day by day, hour by hour, and then, quite possibly, you will see another benefit taken away from MTs (such as no-strings-attached QA) but at least you can get satisfa ...

New Job Idea
Nov 20, 2012

Today I had to go to a deposition at my attorney's office. There was a woman there who was a "voice-writer" to be present and record the meeting. She used a mask over her mouth and repeated into the mask everything that was said verbatim. We could not hear her. This went directly onto her computer screen which was connected and she said all she had to do now was edit the voice recognition report. I looked it up online and there is a lot of information about this field. I am thinking of cons ...

I had enough of the micromanagement and pay cuts, low work, no work, etc. so I just walked away after giving notice. I had been looking for work daily, applying, sending resumes with no luck. Then I saw at the local mall where many seasonal positions to work in the stores were available. I applied having no customer service skills, but I got the job. My foot is now in the door! I am hoping it will lead to a ...
