MedScribe employees who worked for Chicago account - anon

Posted: May 20, 2012

wondering what everybody is doing now that Chicago work is gone.  Are we all supposed to quit or just sit here everyday?  Has anyone been laid off or fired?  I've gone 2 weeks now waiting for them to put me somewhere else and that's all I'm doing, waiting, and no answers and no work.

Sorry to hear of your predicament.

When this happened to me (different account), MS HR told me that they had no plans to lay off any MTs but would reassign them. I ended up leaving and have no regrets.

Others can probably advise you on this, but I've heard that it might be to one's advantage to let them lay you off or fire you, while you use your unproductive time wisely to look for other employment. I don't know if documenting your lack of work and making copies of these communications will make a difference if you decide to file for unemployment. Perhaps others who have done so successfully can address this.

Is it totally gone? I thought it only went to VR and there would still be work. sm - CONFUSED MS MT

Why do I feel like I'm in the dark? Not a good feeling :(

I know that's their biggest account. Are they in trouble? Should I start looking?

I've been off for 2 weeks and came home today to see these posts. I enjoyed my vacation, but I feel like someone pulled a fast one and forgot to tell me. The only things I have heard are on this board.

Just the one - clinic

[ In Reply To ..]
One of the clinic departments started using an Epic system, and that lowered the volume of work about 35%. The account did not go away, they only told their staff to not schedule heavy the week they started using Epic. They seem to be back up to speed now in my work pool.

I got mixed messages from management - and was confused myself

[ In Reply To ..]
I was first told that another (different) big account was lost due to the client's going back inhouse for VR and editing, and that I would be reassigned. Then I was told that we had never lost the account, but I was reassigned anyway. I just wanted the straight scoop so I could make plans accordingly. I still couldn't find out for certain what was going on, so I secured other employment and left.

Don't get concerned until you find out what their plans for you are, as you may still have work. If you're reassigned, you may be happy with the alternative. Other earlier posts would suggest that there's no longer enough work to go around, but you'll need to verify this for yourself. You may be one of the lucky MTs whose work is valued and whose volume will not be affected.

Hoping for the best!

MedScribe - Disappointed

I was in my 2nd report of the day when I got a phone call to log off as Chicago had gone to an Epic system and there was no work. This was after I was guaranteed if I went to SR I would always have work. I was so shocked that the next day I called to verify my standing in the company and asked point blank if I was still employed by MS and was told "No," but I would be called back if "work picked up." This was after I had gone to the job seeker's board and saw that they had acute care job postings listed, so that was very discouraging that they had jobs available, and I was available, but was not given another account to work on.

ALL New People Hired For U of C in past 3 wks FIRED - LiedToTimesTwo

[ In Reply To ..]
...but they assured we "will all be rehirable." That's a direct quote from the trainer whose dirty job it was to call and fire the most recent hires.

How stupid would someone be to trust them enough to GO back?

I was lied to by the recruiter, then lied to by the trainer.

During the interview, the recruiter, Gary, stated, "You'll start out full transcribe at $0.10 cpl while training for 2-3 weeks. When you move into the position you're hired for (QA Editor filling blanks), you'll be at $15 an hour for editing (filling blanks), and $0.08 for full transcription."

It sounded too good to be true, so when I expressed concern about "running out of work", Gary did everything short of guaranteeing that I'd NEVER have to worry about work. He assured me that there were a ton of backup accounts I would be trained on if I ever ran out of work.

What a liar!

After 2 full weeks of training, on Tuesday, May 8, I must have signed on 20 times looking for work. I received a total 161 lines to transcribe that day, and was told to flex my time (with NO PTO).

On Wednesday, May 9, while I was transcribing my 2nd report of the day (after my 5th logon because there was no work), the trainer, Ann, called me, telling me to sign off because there was not enough work. She informed me that the trainees couldn't work until the following Monday, at which time I would be trained on the VR/SR platform. This was the first I'd heard I'd be working on VR/SR; it was not what I was hired for. However, after Ann sent me about 20 email attachments with account specifics, and platform training information, and actually set a definitive time and date for the training teleconference appointment on Monday, May 14, I figured it was better than continuing to go without pay, as I would for the next 3 days.

On Friday, May 11th, at approximately 6:00 pm CST, Ann called. While she was feeding me all of the usual corporate prefacing rhetoric and disclaimers, I interrupted to ask, "Are you firing me?" She giggled nervously, and replied, "Well, yes." ...then the excuses began... They ran out of work. U of C cut the number of patient appointments in half that week and forgot to tell MedScribe. U of C went to EHR. They didn't see it coming. It's affecting the company adversely. The dog ate their homework.... it was all a big misunderstanding, let me explain... No, the quality of your work was good, it had nothing to do with you...

So naturally I asked, "Where are all the backup accounts the recruiter talked about?"

Apparently, my backup account was just different cllinics from my primary account, and they lost the client, and had no intention of training me on any other account, any other facility. You're fired. Not your fault. Bye bye. You're "at will". Too bad, so sad.

Bottom line, I spoke to an HIM Director at U of C, because I don't trust ANYTHING stated to me, or even put in writing, by an MTSO anymore. The Director told me that MedScribe knew for QUITE SOME TIME that the facility would be going to EMR and full VR/SR for those specialties.

Bottom line is several of us were hired to help clear out the system prior to migration. In fact, MedScribe was so desperate to clear out the backlog, that they emailed MTs the weekend prior, asking everyone to pitch in and work some weekend OT to catch up. This should have been a red flag, because I was told by a long-timer that she couldn't remember the last time weekend OT was approved at that company.

So, basically, I quit a job and they rushed me through the hiring process to begin transcribing on the 3rd day after hire, but my time would be limited. I was promised a QA position for $15 per hour (which is exactly what appeared in the ad), hired as a full-time, permanent employee, told I'd be training on my primary account as a full transcriptionist for 2-3 weeks prior to assuming the "blank filler" hourly position.

...and if I ran out of work, I should immediately contact the trainer so I could be crosstrained on another account.

They hired us to clear out backlog, with promises, but no intention, of anything further.

FYI, "at will" does not apply to an employer-employee relationship, wherein the employee quits a full-time job after being lured into a 'better' job with false statements.

Several of us went directly to attorneys. If your situation is similar, I suggest you do the same.

at least you got fired - anon

[ In Reply To ..]
I'm still being strung out and lied to every day. things like "we expect the work to pick back up anytime." right. they want me to quit but I need to be laid off so I can get unemployment while I try to get another (NOT TRANSCRIPTION) job. how do you make somebody lay you off? can I go for partial unemployment. I don't know what my options are here, all I know is I'm just sitting here every day with no work and they are still acting like the work will be back "any day now" when they know that's not true. I hate this industry. they all lie.

They did me no favor; less than 3 weeks worked, no UI - LiedToTimesTwo

[ In Reply To ..]
But in the long run, they did me a favor. There's very little on the boards about THAT MedScribe (the Florida one) to help an MT make an informed decision when offered a job with them.

I accepted a well-paying IC position today. Employee status affords no rights to workers who are lied to, anyway.

MedScribe (Florida) is dishonest. Recruiters lie through their teeth. Boasting "family owned and operated" means jack squat when the "family" tolerates or promotes dishonest hiring practices.

I wish you luck and the strength to cut ties with MedScribe, because a "sure thing" with no work is not a "job"; it's a frightening state of financial pergatory.

The same thing happened to me, hired to clean up before - DisgustedwithMTSOs

[ In Reply To ..]
acquisition. This is completely unacceptable behavior on the MTSOs part. Please, please post names of places that do this so the rest of us know and don't get sucked into the lies. It is disgusting and life-altering. Mine was Alltype when MQ was buying them out. Offered me the world including fantastic pay, then 4 months later, announced buyout and BYE BYE-no notice, no nothing, just "don't need you anymore."

I admire you for - posting your experience

[ In Reply To ..]
Yes, I've worked with all the people you mention, and what you say is accurate and true. Management convinced me that I was the only malcontent on board. About 6 months ago, it seemed that all supervisory personnel were talking from a carefully constructed script. I suspected all along that they knew about clients' (more than one) transition to VR WAY in advance, and you confirmed this for me.

I congratulate you for posting your story. Best of luck to you and the rest who are in this mess.

Medscribe - Chicago Account
May 30, 2012

Does anybody have any real information about what happened to this account?  I've been told for 3 weeks now to flex my schedule because "work is low."  I check for work throughout the day but never get any jobs.  Is anybody getting any work anymore?  I don't think Chicago is actually dictating anything anymore but I have no way to prove that, and I'm so sick of being lied to by these companies.  ...

OMG How Funny - Read Glassdoor Opinion Of Employees, US Versus Indian Employees!

I was just curious about what employees thought of Nuance on Glassdoor.  You read several US employee opinions and they reflect the morale listed on MTStars.  Scroll further down and read the opinions of the transcriptionists from India.  What a difference.  They are highly satisfied with their jobs and most have been working with Nuance for 6 to 7 years.  The US transcriptionists are very sad!!  What a difference..... ...

Anyone know what is going on with Medscribe?  There has been little to no work for weeks now with promises of more work coming in.
