MD-IT, Southern Transcription Services, or NEMT - offers from all for PT

Posted: Oct 27, 2010

Hello!  I am looking to supplement my FT work.  I have had offers from all 3 companies and am having trouble making up my mind.  Anyone with GEMS cardiology comments (cannot keep line count, paid by dictated minute)?  ChartNet platform comments?  STS?  I have spoken to very nice people at all companies, and they seem to be organized and helpful.  Any advice or comments would be welcome.  Thanks for your time.

I can only speak about NEMT and Chartnet.

I love the function of ChartNet and found it pretty MT friendly when using it at NEMT. That being said, the AUDIO on the accounts was "echo"-like to the point of distraction. This may be true of all ChartNet accounts or just the accounts through NEMT; since it was the only employer for whom I used the platform, it's all I have to go on. The speaker, while clear, sounded a million miles away, almost like an echo, for some reason.

Further, regarding NEMT, I hope you're looking to make a MINIMAL supplement to your current income because there certainly wasn't much work to be had there. Their idea of a "HUGE" account was (ready for this?) one that produced UP TO 3500 LINES PER DAY. Yep, I kid you not. I had a totally different idea of "HUGE ACCOUNT" when I accepted the position. Imagine my delight when 4-5 MTs were hired to cover that whopping "up to 3500 lines per day" account. *insert eye roll here*

I also found them extremely disorganized and the few weeks I was contracting for them, my "mentor" was doing good to scrounge up 4 jobs a day for me to train on, forgot how to "fix" a couple of jobs that ChartNet had apparently dropped and she had to retrieve (actually IM'd me to ask me if I remembered what she had done to save them, hehehe), AND would continuously email or IM me with comments or questions when I was clearly off the clock with them (they were well aware of my FT employee position and the hours, yet she would try to IM me through their messaging service). As I said, I found them quite disorganized.

You'll earn your 7 cpl...if they have enough work for you. All in all, I had high expectations when I accepted a position with them and I was very disillusioned when I left 3 weeks into my contract due to the lack of work and apparent flakiness of my "mentor".

Good luck to you, whichever way you decide!

Also worked for them - nutherExNEMT

I had worked there for quite awhile, they lost several accounts and had no more work for me, but still hired on others for different accounts, so be very careful if this is your only income.

I agree that they were disorganized. When training, you get 5 reports a day, if there is enough work. Sometimes I got 1. The first 2 months I worked there, my checks were in the 50 range per week.

The pay was so low at 7 cpl on those accounts, that after busting my behind all week and after paying taxes, my approx pay was just under 7.00 an hour which is CRAZY for the quality they demand.

ChartNet itself is great, except for the account I was on, you had to do so much work in the report data screen (which is not paid), and it was very time consuming.

I have 15 years experience and decided that I deserved more than newbie pay.

It is great to work for nice people, but that does not pay the electric bill.

I worked for STS for over a year and (sm) - anon

the people there are absolutely fantastic, as well as QA. The only reason that I left was because I hated Meditech and could not make any money on it whatsoever. The owner is a MT and is actively involved, super nice, as well as everyone in the office and all of the TLs.

Good luck!

Hating Meditech - anon also

I agree with you. I HATE Meditech. No way can you earn money with that monster.

I worked for STS for almost a year. - mimsymt

Not all accounts are Meditech. It is a very good company. Everyone is very nice and helpful. The account I worked on had Chartnet, which is easy to learn. I left for a clinic IC job with flexible hours simply because it fits into my personal life better. It was more a schedule issue for me than any problem with the company. If the work I have now dried up I would be checking to see what they had available.

thanks for the responses - MTgirl

I appreciate everyone's input. I will not be working on Meditech, though I have worked on it in the past. You know, a company I worked for a long time ago used Meditech, and she told me to type in word and copy and paste into the Meditech and clean up the formatting. She was the owner, though, telling me to do it that way, and it did eliminate the lag. Maybe an option for some who have problems with Meditech if your employer allows you to do this. Alright, gotta get back to work! Y'all have a good day.

MD-IT - Going hourly

[ In Reply To ..]
I was offered a QA positive with MD-IT with hourly pay. The salary is not great but no more production means I can count on a specific amount every two weeks. Anyone know anything about them as there is hardly anything on the boards about them which makes me believe they must be good...no complaints I see! Any responses are appreciated.
MD-IT - sounded okay

I was offered a job with them and declined because I was not familiar with the GEMS (GEMMS?) and I got an offer from another company making more than 1 cpl more with benefits. But, I did like talking to everyone there, and they all seemed great.

Oh good grief! Run far away!! I just left MD-IT about a month ago after 3 years and glad I did. Horrible platform, trouble with client servers, no help from upper management, you name it. No pay raises (didn't get one for 2 years). When you express concern to upper management about issues you are having, you get shot down and receive emails from the regional manangers telling you not to "fret" about the business but to just go on about your own business. You are basically working in a sweat shop at home. My QA specialist was also doing other manager's jobs because they were understaffed and underpaid. I would move on.

MD-IT - done with that

Just left this company about a month ago and worked on a GEMMS cardiology for almost 3 years. Do yourself a favor and avoid this company at all costs. When you are paid by the dictated minute on GEMMS, you do not get paid for the time that you spend faxing and editing templates errors. When they say you are making, for example, $1.099 per minute dictated, you are actually only making about $0.80 per dictated minute when you account for the time that it takes to fax and edit the existing template. They are not giving out raises (didn't get on for almost 2 years), and they are requiring undercompenstated overtime. Run!
