New England Medical Transcription--NEMT - Cricket

Posted: Sep 18, 2011

Any MTs that work for NEMT out of Portland Maine.  Was thinking about applying there, but I was wondering if anyone that works for them currently would like to share any information, what software platforms they use, is it VR or straight typing, any benefits, etc.  Thank you

I had a very hard time making money there - sad to say

[ In Reply To ..]
They are great people, everyone there is awesome to work with, but after they lost my account and put me on clinic and dropped my pay, I could not make any money. I dont think 7 cpl for IC is adequate. I heard they were going to VR, but not sure as I only did straight typing. I think they use a few programs, Meditech and ChartNet.

I was there briefly and worked on ChartNet (sm) - AnaPhylaxis

[ In Reply To ..]
I'll just go on record as saying (a) the other poster is right, 7 cpl is completely inadequate and (b) NEMT's idea of a "huge account with tons of work" and MY idea of "a huge account with tons of work" could not have been more different.

Also, beware of one "mentor" who seems to think because you are IC, you are "on-call" 24/7, be it via IM, email or telephone. Professional boundaries are not her forte, to say the least.

when I worked for them the audio quality was - OhioMT

[ In Reply To ..]
extremely poor and my mentor also thought I should be available 24/7
YES... I agree 100% - poor sound quality
[ In Reply To ..]
The sound was so bad, but they told me it was my headset and that I should buy another. So I did, but made no difference. I was also told I had to work weekends after I was hired without having to work weekends. They made me do a 10 hour shift of stat work and you had to be available whenever they would IM so basically sit there for 10 hours and do the stats as they came in. SUCH BULL for IC work!
They fixed that. - old problem
[ In Reply To ..]
I was informed of the sound problem and that it had been fixed when I hired on. I never had a problem, and I worked on 3 different accounts.
how long ago was that? - it was bad not that long ago
[ In Reply To ..]
just so ya know.

They are great to work for, but all IC, no benies. - loved it

[ In Reply To ..]
I really did enjoy that job because they don't mind how long you take to do a great job on your reports. The people are very good to work for. Of course, the longer you take to do a report, the less money you make for the time you spend.

Don't bother applying. They just had to lay people off last week. But... - NEMT MT

[ In Reply To ..]
A hospital account took a bunch of work over to Epic.

But, this is a fabulous company and if you ever do see a job ad for them apply ASAP! They seriously have it together, they don't over hire, pay is weekly, etc. etc.

Oh and the account that people are complaining about the sound quality on is so easy that you can do 300 lph and so even at 7 cents I'm happy.

LOL, okay, whatever you say - AnaPhylaxis

[ In Reply To ..]
The rest of us are telling tales about poor sound quality (I didn't have that issue but the account for which I was hired was GROSSLY overstaffed), 7 cpl for an IC is pretty low, no matter how easy the work, and our mentor(s) wasn't some dim bulb with no professional boundaries whatsoever who expected us to be at her beck and call 24/7 (yep, try not answering that IM she sends at 2 a.m. and count the seconds until your phone starts ringing...at ALL hours).

I'm glad your account is so easy you can do 300 lines per hour on it. If the overstaffing on my account was any example of how they "don't overhire," I hope you're faring well on that $42 a day,as you might only be getting 600 lines per day (2 hours) worth of work.

But, hey, it's all good...we all have different experiences, IMHO.

that is so far from the truth - overhire

[ In Reply To ..]
They do overhire. I could not even get in 5 reports during the training hours. The sound quality is horrible and there is NO WAY you were doing 300 lines on that account and you know it.

They do not have it together or they wouldn't be losing so many accounts.

The are very nice people, but that is it.

Sounds like we had the exact same experience - AnaPhylaxis

[ In Reply To ..]
This is one reason I referred to the crazed mentor who expected me to be on call 24/7; there would literally not be enough to even get the 10 reports together for my training period during the 12 hours a day I had available for them. Thus, she would IM me, email AND call me sometimes after midnight (yes, you read that correctly), telling me she had jobs for me to train on now, as if I should leap up out of bed and immediately begin transcribing them. They knew I had a full-time position at another company and was only looking to supplement, so they were given specific hours I would be available to work; however, even with a 12-hour window, most of the time they could not come up with the 5-10 reports per day to train on.

The kicker was when I found out after I accepted the position and questioned why there was not sufficient work on which to even train was that this "HUGE" account (for which 6 of us had been hired) "sometimes dictate up to 3500 lines A DAY!"

Ummmm...That's not a huge account by ANYONE'S definition, much less one that requires 6 MTs. That's a 2-MT gig, IMHO. Once I did the math on that (combined with the "sometimes" factor which to me meant even 3500 lines per day would be an exception), I made a hasty exit. No freaking way I'm going to be at their beck and call 24/7 or have to scramble for work at a whopping 7 cpl.

I agree with your post 100%, and I would point out again that, if the other poster was doing 300 lines per hour, I would surmise she was working 2 hours a day. My experience was an MT would be lucky to get 600 lines per day with this company.

Any MTSO that considers an account producing "up to 3500 lines per day" HUGE and hires 6 MTs to cover that account has reality issues, IMHO.

LOVE it there! - Becky

One company does not fit all. On a message board such as this, you will find people who were very unhappy at a company and those who loved it. I don't discount anyone else's experience, but I would like to share my own. I have been there 2 years. Great people, quarterly audits with a small bonus for passing, consistent and timely feedback, no audio problems (for me), great account manager (for me), straight transcription, all IC (no benefits), pay better than 7 cpl (for me), no offshoring, a small gift at Christmas and MT week, birthday card on your birthday, easy user friendly platform (CharNet for me), built in expander in ChartNet, direct deposit or hard check, whichever you prefer, good IM system for contacting coworkers, supervisers, etc., pay accurate and on time, plenty of work (for me). As a previous poster said, there HAVE been some account changes lately that have affected the company, and they are switching workers around rather than hiring right now. In my own opinion, if you have the opportunity to work with them, even if in the future and not now, do so!

I will never again look at anything posted on this board the same way - Another NEMT-MT

[ In Reply To ..]
I have always been skeptical of applying at companies that had bad reviews here. But I have been working at NEMT for over a year now and I LOVE it there. I have never worked for or heard of a company that treats it people so well. The pay is only 7 cpl for the super easy clinic stuff. The other poster is right, my minimum on that account was 250 lph even though the sound was a little muffled.

The account managers go out of their way and work their butts off to get things covered without over hiring. I'm sorry to the poster that had some new account that didn't go well, but to everyone else out there, that isn't the norm.

And they aren't losing accounts as someone mentioned, they had a large hospital account take the ER and progress note work to EPIC. If you think this isn't happening to every MT company in this country (and in India and the Philippines, etc.) you must be living under a rock.

I have had the best mentors ever there. They are sweet, accommodating, friendly, etc. Sorry you had someone nutty but my guess is that she doesn't work there anymore since I've had all of them for one thing or another and they are wonderful. In other words, for anyone out there thinking of working with NEMT, the complaints of the above posters do not apply any longer.

Question from under a rock - BeeBop

[ In Reply To ..]
What is EPIC? Thanks.

Epid - medtype

[ In Reply To ..]
Epic is an all electronic medical record system, which has automatically built in normals, etc. Doctors had to train on this system, so they could do all this themselves (needless to say, they were not happy). Supposed to be cost-effective for hospital, which means laying off of ward clerks, secretaries and doctors and nurses have to do more - just a brief summary. These systems could be why transcriptionists are constantly running out of work - if the hospital has gone to this type of platform, and therefore, not sending as much work to MTSO

Yet another NEMT MT - me

[ In Reply To ..]
I have worked with NEMT for a few years now. I have never worked on clinics, so I cannot comment on voice quality on those if that is what others are referring to. The hospital accounts that I have worked on (which are definitely not as low as 7 cents) have good audio.

The various account managers and various mentors/trainers I have had over the years have been great (and like the previous poster, I have worked with pretty much all of the mentors/trainers).

I'm sure some MTs have had bad experiences for various reasons (it happens everywhere). Maybe not every account is great (or every account manager), but I have never had the experience with my accounts/managers as mentioned here. Again, this is my personal experience, and I am not saying the others did not have those experiences. I can only comment on mine.

I just wanted to throw my experience out there as a positive one, or I would not have stayed all these years. They kind of feel like family to me now. :)

NEMT the best professional team going - XNEMT

[ In Reply To ..]
I worked for them and loved it. Organized, no BS promises. Mentors great always someone to ask and get answer from immediately.

NEMT losing accounts - Anon

[ In Reply To ..]
NEMT most assuredly has lost accounts - those of you who work for them should be checking the emails Linda Sullivan sent in September, specifically on the 16th where she stated there was a 30% drop in business. A previous email noted layoffs.

While my experience is that almost everyone is great to work with and I really like my account manager, there is no overtime or shift/weekend differential, all subcontractor work, and very, very low bonus pay.
