Does anyone have any information about this company located in GA? I would appreciate any information, plenty of work, what software programs do they offer, are there lots of ESL. Thinking about sending in my resume. Is QA fair and helpful. Thanks

I worked for Southern for a little over a year. The owner, QA, office staff, everyone is wonderful. QA is very helpful and informative. At the time that I worked for them they did not do clinic work, all hospital. Platform is Meditech, which I hated and is why I left. Pay was much better than average and they were flexible with the schedules. Really no negatives about the company, owner, QA, just hated Meditech with a passion.

my experience with southern transcription was very positive at first and then turned very negative. they are prejudiced and two-faced liars, at least the owner is. in one conversation, I caught her in several lies. I was very disappointed.

I worked there for several years. I must admit the money was nice, and I found the owner to be as sweet as can be. However, I had a problem with my account manager and the way that the company deals with time off/holidays and QA.

I have various other activities going on in my life, and my account manager was a micromanager, to say the least. Even wanted us to hand in our holiday schedules 5 YEARS in advance...ridiculous. If you are scheduled to work and cannot get a fellow MT to fill in for you (if you should need to go do a doctor's appointment, etc), then it is "on you".

If the doctor makes a gross error regarding the dictation, it is "on you" to go through the proper channels with the hospital to get it straightened out.

If a fellow MT needs help with a blank, and they IM you, YOU stop what you're doing and help.

I can somewhat understand the reasoning for this, but it got so ridiculous that I decided the best thing for me to do was to leave.

It's the best move I could have made. I now am working 2 MT jobs that pay weekly and really don't micromanage me on set schedules, etc. and both have ample QA in place (instead of us doing it).

Also, I am free to pursue my goals outside of transcription without any apprehension now.

I see the negative posts on here about Southern Transcription but was wondering how long ago you worked for them. I guess I am just hoping things may have improved since then. Would someone explain to me how is that this company can legally pay us a lower rate for ASR compared to transcription? Since the advent of voice recognition and overseas outsourcing, transcription has ceased to be a profession. I will NEVER -- repeat, NEVER make the money I was making as a transcriptionist at a hospital 5 years ago, before we were replaced by VR and cheap outsourcing to India. It seems that everyone has negative things to say about how employers do not pay MTs what they're worth and how they offshore the easy stuff, but pile on the lousy ESL stuff on the transcriptionists in the States. Too bad there can't be a general strike of U.S. MTs - a day without transcription - just to show how we're needed. It seems to be the only thing employers would understand.
