Why do companies overhire?? Why? One minute your drowning in work and willing to work extra to get it under control but then they overhire and you have NO work and having to fight over work with everyone else. It is ridiculous. People take work out of YOUR queue, and sadly, I cannot say I blame them. They all need to make a living too but it creates a hostile environment. We all have responsibilities and obligations i.e. food, insurance, mortgages, car payments etc.. In the meantime, I have been applying for every job I can but there is NOTHING out there. Depressed!!!

I have been sitting around too for about an hour with no work. As soon as 1 or 2 jobs pop up, they vanish just as quickly. This work turns us into vultures and it shouldn't be like that. Think this is becoming the trend all around the MTSOs. Not sure what's causing it. Could be several factors. That's what sucks about production-based work. No one compensates you for your waiting and you're still expected to produce your lines for the day no matter how long it takes you.

The faster the work gets done the sooner they get paid. Owners don't care who does the work or about the individual MT. They just want their money. It's all about the bottom line.

How do other MTs take work out of your queue? - mt2

There is usually more than 1 person on an account, therefore it is not YOUR work.

Do work for a company that offshores? Just wondering......

QA/MTs can remove work from a regular MT - Done all the time in my company

The last day of the pay period in another low/no work pay period at our 'appreciative' MTSO, Transtech. Finished up that 1-minute ESL EEG report and, wham!, like quality in VR reports, that 12-minute one had vanished! Thanks TT!

Oh, yeah, when I questioned this, I was told it probably 'timed out.' Yeah, sure it did! LOL. Yep, that's me, just fell off the turnip truck yesterday, so of course I believe you!

I have one account (4 total) which happens to be the one that dictates that most, who does not dictate daily like he should. One day it will be 80 mins and then next 10...and he saw the same number of patients both days. So he gets behind and dumps big time, anywhere from 1-5 hours at a pop where I am expected to do it in 24 hours regardless of the amount. I end up having to farm out the majority of the work and miss out on the money while others make extra. Totally stinks, but then again you must keep the customer happy, while I end up in the poor house. My last check was $400 less because he has been lazy the last two weeks and not dictating. Of course he dumped over the weekend though got lucky only about 80 mins so I did not have to give any away. Granted I'd rather have my situation then no work, but it does totally kill me when I have to give away a couple hundred dollars of my work. --- I hope things get better for you, and I will keep my fingers crossed my doc gets struck by lightening and starts to do his dictation daily and to stop nailing me every weekend with work (rarely does he NOT dictate a ton over the weekend).

I just posted a rant on the Main board when I should have just posted a big old I AGREE to your post! You're right, it's terrible having to fight with other MTs just to make a little bit of money or even get a bad job. It's a horrible situation.

The people who come along with "but I make 47 million dollars a day so you must be doing something wrong!" replies will be here any minute now! LOL

On my job (VR) the account specifics say to do headings a certain way, using certain terms, even if the doctor doesn't dictate them that way, change them to what the hospital prefers. Well, the thing is NONE of the doctors dictate them the way the hospital prefers, so I have to go in and change every single heading on every single report!!!! Wouldn't it make so much sense to tell the doctors, "LOOK, THIS IS WHAT HEADINGS WE USE, NOW SAY THEM!!" Why in the world should ...

I know this is late, but I was just released from the hospital, so forgive me. I was one of the "fortunate" ones who got the Surprise! letter with accompanying gift. In the letter, it goes on to say how much I'm appreciated for my dedicated service, I bring expertise to medical documentation and that they "just couldn't do it without me." Here's the thing.....I got this a week after I was FIRED!!!!! In fact, it came the same day as my termination letter, hahahaha ...

For the last week, I have been getting a vast quantiy of ESL dictators. Boy has my line count plummeted. I cannot understand them. Most of them whisper while dictating. Here's a thought --- SPEAK UP. Hard to maintain line count and accuracy when you cannot hear or understand them. Why should I care if they don't? It just keeps getting worse and worse. Unable to log on because DQS needs to be updated. Then can't update on DocuManage because there's no link. They tell me they someone will call back and help me, but they have no way of knowing when. DQS is driving me crazy today. When I push the pedal, it takes a couple seconds to start playing. If I let off the pedal, it keeps going for a couple seconds and I can't get it to stop. The typing I am doing does not keep up with my finger speed either, with words not showing up until after I've typed them. I use my own computer and have never encountered this issue before. It is a major hindrance though, slowing me down. What's next? ...
